Subject: MIDI Input Channels
Message #165854
Anyone know how to assign a specific midi input channel. Selecting a midi port for input is straight forward but defining a specific channel from that port appears impossible. This should be very basic for any decent sequencer. I just spent a lot of money switching from Sonar 3 on PC to Logic Pro 6 on Dual 1.8 G5. So far I am very disappointed with Logic. The Environment is every bit as confusing as touted. I ignored this when deciding to go with Logic feeling that I was experienced enough to get past it (I was wrong). I have an organ with two keyboards and pedals which I can assign any output channel. I am using MOTIF ES8 for sound generation. With Sonar I could easily select what input channel would trigger what sound and channel on the Motif. For instance, if keyboard 1 is assigned to port 1-channel 1 output it would trigger port 2 (Motif) channel 1 sound. Or if the pedal board is assigned port 1-channel 7 it would trigger port 2-channel 7 sound on Motif. I've spent two days trying to figure this out and talked to support at emagic 3 times today and all their suggestions fail. Even Cubase LE (free with Aardvark Q10) can do this simple operation which I figured out in less than 10 minutes just to see if I was an idiot. I love space designer, which was big influence as to why I went with Logic, but if it can't do this simple operation it is useless to me.
