I'm not sure if this has any bearing on your problem or not, but I had
a digital spiking issue with my MOTU 828mk2 a little while back. It
turned out to be another PCI audio card (M-Audio 24/96) that was still
installed albeit unused that was causing problems - apparently the
Firewire connection is a subset of the PCI bus, so even though the
M-Audio card was not selected in any application or the system as the
primary audio card it was "getting in the way" of the MOTU.
Pulling the
card put everything right again, and the 828 has been a champ ever
since.
Do you have any other audio-related PCI cards (or any other PCI cards
at all, for that matter) that you can pull to see if the problem goes
away?
