I am working at 24/44.1, bounce at 24/44.1 (no dither) and send these files off for mastering. Having followed the previous discussions you mentioned, I couldn't hear any difference between my bounces and what I was hearing in Logic "live", although if you are hearing a difference I believe you (and the others who have mentioned this). I donb't wish to cast any doubt on your ears, but have you tried any scientific comparisons? The obvious thing to try is playing a bounced file back along with the Logic tracks, but invert the phase of the track with the bounce on it. (Insert a gainer plug in for this). When I've tried this I get total silence, which implies to me that the bounce is completely identical in all aspects, both tonal and stereo imaging. NB this sometimes doesn't work if you have a cycle active as one or more of the multitracks can play slightly out of sync in this case. It also won't work if your bounce has latency due to plugins on the output unless you can line the bounce up with the Logic tracks. The only slight problem area I've discovered so far is with EVB3, there appear to be a few very minor glitches which are inaudible to me in the bounce, but are there when I phase invert the bounce and use the cancellation test as above. These tests give me the confidence to bounce in Logic, after bouncing I hear what I expect to hear and the test backs it up, but this is just my opinion, I'll be happy to admit I'm wrong if someone can show me a better test or can point out the difference so that I can hear it. Perhaps I'm just lucky with my system Logic 6.3.3 OSX 10.3.4 G5 dual 2 gHz, Metric Halo MIO, UAD-1, Powercore Pete Thomas "The future ain't what it used to be." - Yogi Berra www.petethomas.co.uk www.soundtrack-composer.co.uk
