Subject: Environment needs an update
Message #164369
This is a reply to #164355.
I noticed that the freeze functionality doesn't work when multi channel instruments are instanciated. I generally feel that the way the environment is handling the midi for the audio instrument objects is a bit of a patch work. I's not really practical to have separate multi instrument midi objects connected to audio instruments. Normally I just want access to the midi parameters, except of course when using multi instruments. What about an update of the current audio instrument objects: I would like to see a combination of the functionalities of the multi instruments and the audio instrument objects in the environment. I would like to keep the general functionality of the multi instruments such as the midi parameter box and 16 instruments. Just like with the automation tracks, there could be a little triangle opening up a sub set of tracks for each of the 16 midi channels for this audio-multi-instrument. There could be a "multi" checkbox that would toggle this functionality on and off, eliminating the need for different type of audio objects for mono/stereo instruments. When in "multi" mode, the "mother" track should default to "all" midi channels. These sub tracks should all be freezable individually or when the "mother" object ("all" midi channels) is freezed, all recorded sub tracks should be captured as one. It should still be possible to use the new audio instruments as earlier so you can do complex environment routings etc. Just a though / Henrik
