Subject: Improve Copy/convert dialogue and Importing.
Message #162613
Here are some suggestions put forward to Emagic for Improving the Copy/convert and Import dialogues. - In the Copy/convert dialogue there should be an option to save as split or interleaved stereo. Today when "Force record and convert interleaved into split stereo file(s)" is checked in the audio preferences; if you would like to use an interleaved stereo file from your library, you have to: 1. import the files making split stereo files 2. Copy convert files and put in your project folder 3. Go to the original folder in Finder and remove the unwanted copies. When "Force record and convert interleaved into split stereo file(s)" is unchecked you still have to copy convert files AND if you would like to apply a plug-in on, or in any way edit, only one of the channels on an interleaved stereo file, the only way today is to actually bounce it (!!) into split stereo and disconnect. -High quality samplerate conversion should absolutely be implemented in this dialogue too. -When importing; it should be possible to copy/convert files right away. There should be One new option in the Import dialogue: "Import/convert" which should open the new improved Copy/convert dialogue. The Import dialogue should still default to "open", so you can just click enter for the same behaviour as today. The "Import/convert" option automatically solves another very irritating issue when importing files with too long file names, now you can rename the file in the Copy/convert dialogue while importing. Would save a lot of time. Just like today, renaming while copy/converting should only work with single files. BUT, when importing multiple files with too long filenames there should be an option to rename each of the files with too long names individually as they are imported. I'm suggesting a check box in the new improved Copy/convert dialogue providing for an option to "rename too long file names individually" or else Logic should rename them automatically according to OSX standard. A renaming dialogue should follow with the options to "Skip" (don't import), "Auto" (rename according to OSX standard) and "Ok". In any case; one file with a too long name should not keep the rest of the files from being imported as it unfortunetely is today when importing interleaved files while converting to split stereo. Maybe Logic could adapt to the new OSX standard that provides for longer file names and this won't be an issue anymore (until you try to export to any app that doesn't support it of course...). - In the Import dialogue it should absolutely be possible to audition 16 bit files even when in 24bit mode when using DAE as playback engine. Maybe solve it with an option to audition natively through DTDM instead of DAE. - A key (alt or space bar) should be assigned for starting/stopping auditioning of samples in the import dialogue. Comments are welcome. Cheers / Henrik
