I just posted the (not complicated but funny, because it just shouldn't be
necessary) *actual* workaround in my last mail (it doesn't add any latency,
btw.):

The reason why you can't access multiple audio instruments at the same time
is that Logic is switching them from "live" to
"playback" mode when you
select another track (buffer size for deselected instrument tracks is
increased and they will only react once Logic is playing).
To keep them in "live" mode you can just do the following:
- Insert an "I/O" plugin
- Open the UI of the I/O plugin and setup *any* in and out
- Bypass the plugin
Now just cable your incoming MIDI signal to those instruments and set up
appropriate MIDI channels in their object parameter boxes and there you go.
It's still making me wonder why there isn't such an option straight on the
audio instrument objects themselves. Wasting one plugin slot just for
another funny workaround doesn't look too professional...

The original question to this answer was whether it's possible to use Logic
as some sort of multitimbral sound module, but you can of course also use
this method to layer virtual instruments. Just create a *plain* MIDI
instrument and cable it to the audio instruments of your choice.

Sascha
