First do the "Easy Install" of the Logic Pro 6 CD (which it sounds
like you already did). This
installs everything you need from that CD (including the Logic Program,
system stuff,
instruments and samples for the EXS24 sampler, and XSKey drivers). Don't
worry about
manually copying anything from this CD.
Then do the "Easy Install" from the Sound Library CD. This
installs the impulse response
files and presets for the Space Designer Reverb (don't worry if you don't
know what an
impulse response file is, just install it unless you are really hurting for
space on your hard
drive). The one thing on this CD that does not get installed is the
additional
documentation that tells you how to make your own impulse response files.
This
documentation is in the folder called "Deconvolution Tutorial" and
you can copy that
anywhere you want to on your hard drive.
The Electronic Manuals CD contains the most recent documentation in .pdf
format, so you
can copy that to any location on your hard drive if you chose (it is only 50
MB for one
language, I copied it into my Documents folder). The "old" Logic
Platimun documentation
you refer to is actually still as current as anything, since Logic Pro (or
Logic 6.4.1) is simply
just a bundling of Logic 6.3.3 with all of the previously optional software,
and some
improvements to the Space Designer reverb.
It is definitely confusing that the Installation Guide.pdf on the
documentation CD lists in
the Package Contents a Demo Songs CD (which is no longer part of the
package) and
doesn't mention the other two CD's the new packaging does now contain.
Emagic is a
company that is known to make amazing software and provide excellent
customer
support. However, many of their biggest fans believe they lack somewhat when
it comes
to documentation. It is a relief to see that Apples acquisition of Emagic
has not
fundamentally changed the character of this company, though I think many
(including
myself) were hoping there would be an improvement in this regard.
Since you said you were a newbie, I'm assuming you're all OSX, but if you
want to use
Logic in OS 9, you need to reboot your computer in OS 9 (don't just launch
Classic) and
run the OS 9 installer scripts. You can aviod installing the EXS samples and
Sound Library
a second time by choosing a custom install, then creating an alias of the
EXSamples folder
and the Impulse Response foder from the OS X install.
Hope this helps,
Paul
