Subject: Is OSX really *this* inefficient?
Message #158269
Hi, I'm priming myself for the move from OS 9 to X; today I pulled up a pretty hefty song (for me), about 32 tracks and 12 instruments with maybe 2-4 plugs per object. In OS9 and ASIO, I never got past 3/4 on the CPU meter. Now, in X, the same song maxes out. In fact, when playing a blank part of the song, e.g., 16 bars past the last region, the CPU meter still hovers at 50%. Yikes! If I bypass all the instruments and effects, it drops to 0. I'm used to Logic/OS9 being extremely efficient, only using resources when it's actually using them. Is OSX a different story? Or is it just that I'm using the built-in outputs under X and ASIO under 9? I'm having trouble believing Logic is suddenly so DP-ish in it's processing abilities. I'd appreciate any insight. u b i k
