You just answered your own question Chris. The most common use for a degenerative delay line, would be, to have it in a continuous way, such as the in built delay filters. ie the Filter inserted in the feedback loop. Ofcourse, your suggestion would be great for a single hit. I cannot remember the name of it, but there was a freeware multitap delay (AU) just updated the other day, which is ideal for some alternative delay setups. Matt.
