Subject: My tests on LAWP
Message #15653
Hi, I'm back . I've finally a copy of LAPW 4.11 to test, so here are my first impressions. I've also Cakewalk 9 and Samplitude 5.55. I hope you don't mind I compare some ellements ! First the good ones : -I saw Phillippe Brodu's DEMO in FRANCE Bordeaux, and I was really impressed by the functions of Logic -the plug ins are way cool and usefull -nice interface -good miditiming -possibillity to control (draw) plug in's parameters (I was looking for this one ) -the score functions are splendide !!! -I will have to work on it for a while to discover all it's potentional power Bad ones : (no Flame, just impressions to get more out of the soft later) -I've got this copy (original) for about one week, and I wasn't able to get it working or installing it without problems in my PC (I've lost one week of trying out) The problem was my SBLIVE card. I did a complete reinstall of windows, with my SW1000 Yamaha, and now it's working fine. I think the soft is too restrictive when it comes to soundcards and drivers. (I've tested on other PC's, and had the same problems with GINA. Some of my students wheren't capable to install the demo LAPW4 on their PC (lot of errors) -The redraw function when load presets in plug ins has a little bug. -No PIII optimisation !!!!! (this is important as it works well on Samplitude and Cakewalk -No full mouse optimisation under windows (I've got the impression I'm working on a MAC) I like the way we can use the right button to scroll down menus as in Samplitude or Cakewalk (really windows like) -It still doesn't work on Win2000 or NT4. I've been working on NT4 with Cakewalk and Samplitude, and Nt technology is really more powerfull and stable than Win98. -Performance is less good as in Cakewalk 9 (cakewalk's wavepipe technology can give you 11ms of latency without any special ASIO or EASI drivers) or in Samplitude 5.5 -Less stable than Cakewalk and Samplitude. I did tests on 20 tracks with plug ins , and had some crashes !!!!! I think stability is the most important thing for a soft . I'm using Cakewalk 9 and Samplitude under NT4 since september, and had just 3 little bugs due to my béta drivers of the soundcard I was using (projects were from 10 to 30 tracks with a lot of plug ins) I hope I didn't bless anyone writing these things, and I hope I can make use of this soft in a productive way soon. regards, Hans Van Even
