The Audio Instrument channels objects seem to ignore the Mute and Solo ctrl codes (9 and 3) completely. Place a MIDI transformer object inline between your control messages and the channel strips. Convert control (above 9, I think), to fader. Voila. I have also found that changing the channel number to 1 for all instrument objects helps, but may not be crucial.
