Subject: [LAM] Returning user, new hardware, lots of obstacles

Hi all, It's been a long time since I've been on this list, I hope all of your recording efforts have been fruitful. I was using Notator Logic way back in the 1.x and 2.x days, still have the old ADB dongle hanging off a beige G3 that I had been using with a Paris DAW system. But it was time to upgrade. So I've just purchased Logic Platinum 6.3.1 for my shiny new dual G5, wth a pair of MOTU 896 firewire interfaces, a MOTU MIDI Express 128, and a Mackie Control. I also picked up the Logitech 5.1 surround system to augment my standard stereo monitor setup. I'm hoping to get started recording my band's next album, so now I'm trying to coax all this stuff into working together. I just found a brief note on the InfoWeb (xKB0002128x) that says I can't use more than one interface with Logic and Core Audio. This is a real bummer, of course, so my first question is when might this issue be resolved? To say the least, it'll be very difficult to record a band with only 8 inputs... Secondly, I was hoping to switch between a stereo monitor system and the 5.1 surround system, depending on the project. The 5.1 system takes the optical output of the G5 directly, and I can certainly play DVDs and iTunes through it, but I can't seem to figure out how to hook it up with Logic. Any suggestions? And lastly, I'm getting Core Audio error code 701 whenever I try to record-enable an input on the one 896 that should be working at this point. I couldn't find anything documented about that error code, anyone else seen it before? Thank You, Troy Davis Digissance Cincinnati, Ohio
