David,
I had the same issue when importing midi files. Too bad
all you got was a side issue of no importance or value.
I don't know what to say about your second question but
think I can help on the first part. I'm a new user (two
weeks) and I've found my share of frustration in this
area. I'm on Mac with 10.2.6 and Logic 6.1 so I don't
know anything about previous versions. I found this
completely by trial and error earlier today and felt
like dancing when it worked. I hope it works for you.
After setting up your environment the way you want, new
song or fresh launch. Drag your midi file onto this
instrument you want the midi applied to in the track area
of the arrange window from the Finder level. Don't do an
import. It worked for me and solved two problems that
have cause extreme frustration for me. My second problem
was midi device assignment for the midi song.
Good luck,
Rich
