Subject: Re: [LUG][GEN] Time for a new Emagic Audio interface?
Message #143455
This is a reply to #143424.
... Well, if you are interested in rackmounted firewire audio, there's already the PreSonus FIREstation, so perhaps the top end of the market is already being worked on. I do think there's a real gap lower down for non-rack audio interfaces, though ... I agree that USB sucks for this sort of thing ... and if you want to have stereo in and stereo out and one basic effects loop the existing emagic 2/6 and 6/2M interfaces can't do it (you'd want a 4/4!), so there's definitely a gap in the range IMO. I suppose they /could/ produce a 4/4M, but if they were producing a new model, IMO, yeah, they should go ahead and do it properly and make it firewire. Perhaps even a firewire 2/2M (Edirol already do small 2/2 interfaces, but only USB). <random brain-glitch> If they /did/ do a simple cheapish 2/2M with firewire interface, I wonder if it would be possible to allow it to be plugged straight into an iPod to allow the iPod to be used as a portable recorder? Now THERE's an interesting thought ... [Erk]
