The notion of saving CPU power is by simply using buses.
e.g., say you have 10 mono audio tracks and you want to apply some level
of Reverb, Chorus and Delay to each of them.
- The silly way to do this
.. would be to assign these 3 types of fx to each track which would mean
you have 10 x 3 fx instances open in Logic. (i.e., 30). It's silly
because most of the time you will not be requiring a different setting
on the effect but rather a different level for each track. So you cut
out the duplicate instances and therefore can adjust your levels
accordingly.
- The smart way to do this
...would be to use 3 stereo buses. You then have in effect 3 x 2 fx
open - though I don't know if it's more efficient for Logic internally
if you actually open a stereo instance of an effect (on a stereo track
e.g., Bus1-2) as opposed to two mono effects panned hard left and right
respectively on two mono tracks such as Bus 1 and Bus 2.

There is no should. You just need to bear in mind the differences
between the two behaviours.

See above.
If you want to use busses well, remove fx from audio instruments and
instead set them up to 'send' to Stereo Bus 1-2. And have their outputs
going to Outputs 1-2 say. That way you'll get a Wet-Dry ratio.... They
will by nature because of their panning send to the correct side of the
stereo image.
