I don't own a UAD-1 yet (very shortly). But I have certain effects I really
want in my arsenal.
Obviously all the plugs there already, pro reverb (can't wait to stop using
Logics reverb), classic compressors (I have no knowledge or experience as to
why these are so highly praised but I'm sure I will learn) but I think I
will also really appreciate Nigel for phasers (lee scratch perry style),
evnelope filters, etc (groovy).
So what else could we ask for?
I am just a bedroom producer but getting radio playable (quite crisp)
quality productions all from my mac, neumann mic and sound modules.
Mastering with T-racks.
I've always wondered how much is missing because I don't record to tape. I
know from experience that I love what tape does to sound. Maybe I could
master to tape. IMO it blends, fattens up bass, makes drums sound good etc
etc. On the DUC (pro tools forum) people where always recommending using an
Empirical Labs 'distressor' on everything for a tape emulation (those things
are expensive).
I like old music. Vinyl records, a mic'ed up reggae band. Tribe called
quests 'midnight marauders' as engineered by Bob Power (I heard Bob power
always masters to tape), Dangelo's smooth warm sound, Clean crisp modern
Jamaican productions with heaps of reverb and sizzling hihats and deep bass.
Harmonic distortion is what tape and tubes also do isn't it. And I think
those aphex exciters are the same.
I listen to records from 60's onwards and want all the cool sounds in my
musical pallette. Mostly funky effects, synth sounds, nice distortions etc.
What would you guys wish for?
