Message #24601
Is there some special configuration that I need to do to get my HD rig to work with Logic Pro? I can play audio files back fine, I just have not been able to record any audio. The moment that I press record the meter goes up in the red zone.

Subject: Key Command settings
Message #24602
Hi Just getting to grips with a new set of key commands and need to know if it is possible to get the Key Command window to display only the actual keys involved and not the ASCII numeric codes. Also is it possible to have a visual prompt when I press any key command i.e a window that pops up with details of the command? Im sure I saw this on a DMTS Logic tutorial video and it would help cement the commands in the brain. Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers Ged G

Subject: Power PC/Intel Song File Compatibilty
Message #24603
I've encountered what seems to be a compatibility issue involving song files crashing Logic Pro 7.2.3 when loading after being modified on one or the other platform in a certain order. It goes like this... Intel > PPC = OK PPC > Intel = OK PPC > Intel > PPC = OK Intel > PPC > Intel = Not OK This last one causes Logic to crash immediately without any error alerts. Has anyone else seen the same thing? Mac Pro 2.66, 4GB, OS 10.4.8, Pro Tools HD2, 192 Digital I/O, 96 I/O, Unitor 8mkII

I am wondering if anyone is using this setup or close to it successfully? G5 Dual 1.8 X.3.9 ProTools TDM Mix 6.41 Logic 7.1 I had this setup working ok on a G4 that i sold, i wanted to keep Logic native with the G5 but now i miss the audiosuite plugs and a host of other reasons quite a bit(not the split stereo crap, really like UTM better), it became a huge part of the way i work and want to check out Logic under DAE again. Also would this be possible to run from a FW400 drive just so i can leave my system intact and crash free. Any info please let me know. Cheers -rv

Software, fuggedaboutit - my shelves look like a music store. But my rig is all computers - I really don't have all that much hardware anymore. No mixer, I sold all my outboard gear years ago to buy two Millennia channel strips, two keyboards (Kurzweil 2500x I use as a master keyboard, plus a Yamaha VL1 that sits in the corner)...the rack in the corner of the following photo doesn't even have power running to it. I now have one big monitor instead of the two, but this is essentially it (other than a rack case and some instruments and things you don't see off to the side). And those shelves - I promise you the room isn't this uncluttered: http://homepage.mac.com/virtualinstruments/site/PhotoAlbum9.html (The sliding desktop is pushed forward in that picture, but it slides back in half a second for a full desktop.) And this (the garage) is my machine room, which I love bragging about: http://homepage.mac.com/virtualinstruments/site/PhotoAlbum10.html Nick Batzdorf, editor/publisher Virtual Instruments Magazine - the world of softsynths and samplers www.Virtualinstrumentsmag.com 1-877 VImagzn (846-2496) 818/905-9101, cell 590-9101

Subject: DAE / Core Audio / DTDM
Message #24618
Hello All Appologies as I know this subject has been covered MANY times..... I have been reading through lots of the previous posts.... but wondered if anyone had any new light to shed on it... So - basically - random offsets between DAE trks and DTDM or Core Audio trks have been happening since the dawn of OSX. There have been many different versions of DAE and Logic since then, and yet the problem still exists. This leads to me thinking that maybe the problem is not solvable, or at least neither Apple or Digi are inclined to look into it. In OS9 - there was a random offset between DAE and DTDM, but it was ALMOST small enough to get away with in many situations. In OSX it seems a much bigger problem and now we also have a similar random offset on each playback of DAE EXS trks. This didnt happen in OS9 at all. (well - apart from one fishy update where it got broke and then was fixed again) Now depending on how you use it - as far as I can see - this is a major issue. Things get worse when you put a logic / DAE machine in timecode chase..... :( Anyway - thats where its at as I see it. If anyone has any light to shed on the matter I would be very greatful. Is there a magic combo of software / hardware where this isnt a problem? thanks a lot Matt

FYI last week I upgraded an old G4 MDD/1GHz/1.25MBRAM which had been running 10.3.9, Logic 7.1 and ProTools 6.2.3. Upgraded to Tiger 10.4.8, Logic 7.2, and PT7.2 and it's running smoothly. Have to have "Auto-input monitoring" checked - as documented here and elsewhere - otherwise there's a Digi error. I have Direct TDM functioning, and Core Audio with an M-Audio USB interface. As I was testing I did have the occasional hiccup: "Cannot synchronise audio and midi" messages, and EXS24 instruments would suddenly play white noise, or something else, out of time. However, this sort of behaviour only came about when opening a song while another was already open, or doing a lot of opening and closing of songs. I've been running LogicTDM since 1994 and I made it my practice many, many years ago always to quit Logic before opening another song. If I follow that practice everything's fine. If you drop the .gig file into your sample instruments folder and re-launch logic, then they should show up in your exs list.... then on the first time you select it - logic will 'unstuff' all the samples from the .gig database file. Matt

The only problem is that last time I tried it - years ago - it sent unwanted program changes all over my room (on every MIDI channel) as soon as I booted it up. But these days I don't have anything much hooked up to receive those program changes, so it might be a different story. For now, though, I just boot up my PowerBook in OS 9 when I need to get at VL1 sounds. Subject: [L-TDM] Logic Signal Generator plugin and DTDM
Message #24625
Greetings! Wonder if anyone else has noticed this - Logic's signal generator does not work when used under Direct TDM and routed to ESB? If I instanciate Logic's signal generator on a Core Audio track then the meter on the track indicates a tone is present and I can hear the tone out of (in this case) the audio out of my Mac. Under Direct TDM the meter does not "light up" and nothing is heard. Ian ------------------------------ Ian G. Morris - Tonewright ian@igmusic.co.nz http://www.igmusic.co.nz http://www.thdudes.co.nz
