This effect can be circumvented by wearing a pyramid made of tin foil on your head while you are using the older system. There is anecdotal evidence that even on new systems this apparatus improves performance while protecting you from harmful quantum fluctuations from other dimensions... Subject: [L-TDM] Logic session using pt hd
Message #22903
any advice on this situation. Im a logic pro and pro tools user. I've been working on a project at home using a motu 828 soundcard using core audio drivers. I was planning on mixing in a studio that has a pt hd system, they dont usually use logic so i have to configure it myself. My logic session runs at an average of about 70 tracks(all mono) per song im using alot of routing to busses and aux'es, im not using to many plugins so it does really matter if i lose the ones im using. As i've never done this before i was looking for some advice as to whether it would be easier to just bounce/consolidate everything and mix in pt's or is it quite easy to transfer a session to run on hd system. Im not a novice so can deal with a certain amount of technical setup.

To open a native Logic song in a TDM-setup is possible but you loose all plug-ins as you change the audio engine for every channel. And: The mix engineer has to deal with your routing. I like it more if people come with everything as audio files. So I can route everything my way... Compatibility between native and TDM-songs is really small in Logic. Thanks for the reply Mark. Im still thinking about trying to do it logic. My only main concern is the routing. I don't mind losing any plugins that I've already been using as most are waves so I'll just save there settings. Im procrastinating over bouncing as I've already done a lot of premlininary balancing and panning(70 tracks on average), so im hoping to keep the session like this so when I go to the studio to mix (im the engineer) I can start eqing straight away. Here's my ideal situation. Open logic session using pt hd system(losing assigned plugins), convert mixer to dae/dtdm and keep all routing (busses and aux) with minimal rerouting, start inserting tdm plugins and mix! What do think my chances are? Otherwise I'll have to bounce about 15 songs with 70 tracks in each. The other thing I was thinking of trying was using the motu soundcard alongside the tdm system and use coreaudio with the motu and dae/dtdm or some variation of. I've read about people using multiple soundcards with logic pro, and the logic tdm manual would lead u to think that au and tdm plugins can be used in the same session, just not on the same track. If anyone thinks im crazy or wasting my time trying this please let me know.

Message #22906
I just recently upgraded to the Soundtoys TDM bundle (it's a good deal if you have some of the plugins, or the Ultratool bundle). But today, in trying to use the Echoboys plugin in Logic/TDM, I am getting an error (-7054) and can't get the plugin to instantiate. I get window errors popping up too, saying the presets file cannot be found, but it is in the correct folder (mac/library/application support/digidesign/plugin settings). Anyone else have a problem with this? I have a call into Soundtoys but haven't heard back. -mark Mark Henderson mark@dirtydogproductions.net 952.210.4801

Hi Alan, ...and other native (ASIO, Coreaudio, MacAV, Audiowerk / TDM) converters;-) I wrote a note recently for converting an ASIO Setup with interleaved Files (you propably have some of them in your sessions?) to DTDM (only 8 Outs/Busses possible though, BUT bus-object will retain their settings, although you will have to reroute exceeding outputs to 1-8) You might want to proceed from the DTDM setup, switching dedicated tracks to DAE/HTDM for different processing and discrete outputs; you will lose channel settings/special plugins when switching audio-drivers, but I think, it is a worthwile solution, to have "premixed" songs transferred as complete as possible to the logic-"Pro"Tools HTDM/ESB-DTDM setup of "professional" studios for the final mix-stage. What a drag it still is...! I only have experiences with DAE/Mix++whatever-systems, but it should work the same way with DTDM useing ESB on HD-systems. (is this actually functional? OSX and HD users please chime in...) I will have to translate my german routine to english to make it accessible for you in possibly a few days (or is this URGEN?T)... Is there any interest for this transcript on this list, so I could offer it for download as a .pdf file or shall I just send it to Alan? Maybe the thing to do is to trash the version you currently have, and download a fresh copy. Out of curiosity, what version are you running? I just checked, and I'm running EchoBoy 1.1.2. I never use protools software. Therefore I wonder. Does "all" the RTAS plugins in digi folder take up memory, and/or does it make the system (logic/tdm) more unstable? Is it recomended to remove all RTAS plugs in general? I assume this could result in better loading time as well? Anyone? Thanks. Henning.

I've talked a lot with Apple support regarding the problem with the crashes and automations. The last reply from them was that it may has to do with the connection between Logic and DAE. The support guy has sent my mail, crash logs, logic songs, etc. to the developer department. I really hope they gonna fix this. I still have BIG problems. In ProTools everything works great. Not a single crash at all. Several guys at this forum says that you have "stable systems". Do you use a lot of automations? In my experience, Pro Tools is not always stable even on its own. Just last week I was editing automation in a simple session in Pro Tools without starting Logic that day at all, and Pro Tools crashed when I clicked on a breakpoint. That's not a common occurrence, but it can happen. I've never experienced Logic automation drop-outs, though I've read about them and I've experienced plenty of other Logic bugs. Generally, logic seems to have improved a lot lately in stability and function. You can tell that's true just by the traffic on this list. There used to be piles of messages from upset Logic/TDM users who could not work their systems due to constant crashes and freezes and other serious issues. We don't see nearly as many of those since the last few rounds of updates. I'm not saying everything's all warm and fuzzy with Logic - it still crashes a lot and does other annoying things regularly! But re- launching usually works OK and PT's not perfect either. - Dave (PT 6.9, HD2, dual 1G/1.5G ram, logic 7.1.1, osx 10.3.8) On Jan 1, 2006, at 1:05 PM, kraakan wrote: > I've talked a lot with Apple support regarding the problem with the > crashes and > automations. It hate to simply lose HTDM plugins in a future version of Logic and not have them replaced with something. Hi, This is an automatically generated message sent once a month. 1. RULES -------------- This is an unmoderated list, so we ask you to respect the "netiquette". Please stick to the following rules: * Use useful subject lines. * No excessive quoting. Cut out parts that aren't relevant to your reply. * No platform wars or other flame wars allowed on this list. Offending language or replies that critisize personals are also not allowed on this list. Subscribers who don't act according to the rules of this list will get banned. * Replies to OT messages should be done in private. If possible, try to post OT messages to the logic-ot mailinglist. * Please try to use these abbreviations in the subject line of your mails as much as possible: ADMIN = Administrative (list-related) messages TIP = Tip (post as many of these as possible) WISH = A Wish, Logic related of course HELP = Help me please! OT = Off Topic (hardware & software related stuff, jokes,...) 2. FEATURES -------------------- We offer many services. You'll notice some nice advantages of being subscribed to this list once you've been subscribed for a while! Here's a list with the most common features: * User-provided info: this is one of the most informative mailinglists available. * Emagic-provided info: some Emagic people are subscribed and are actively taking part in the discussions. They do so without any obligation, so every message they send is based on their goodwill. Keep in mind that this is not an official list! It is made BY users FOR users. * You can manage your account: choose between "individual emails" (lots of traffic: up to 100 mails a day!), "daily digests" (= all emails bundled into one big mail) or "no mail/web based only" (= you're still subscribed, so you can still browse through the archives, but you don't receive any emails anymore -> handy when you're going on holiday and don't want an overloaded mailbox: instead of unsubscribing, just switch to "no mail/ web based only" until you're back). * You can browse and search the archives. * You can see info about other users. * Many other things... 3.
