When selecting multiple faders at the same time to raise or lower the volume
of say all my
softsynths, L7.1.1 freaks out and makes all the values wrong. This has been
a problem for
me since V6. I figured was a small bug that would get fixed but has not, now
I am thinking its
my system. has anyone else had this problem and able to fix it?

I've looked all over the DUC, all I see is Jon Odo from Digi saying
that Apple has shown no interest in RTAS so far, but that Apple has
the info IF they want it. Doesn't sound good to me. Did I overlook
a posting somewhere? Could you send me the link to the info you have
received?
Thanks.

It is correct that LP7 and PT7 are incompatible. Hang on though, the update
might arrive a little earlier than this group (myself included) has
speculated.

RTAS is not the issue. RTAS has not been supported by logic from the get
go. Apparently the issue is that in protools 7 DAE is significantly revamped
and Apple will need to rewrite its dtdm and dae codes to comply. Seems kind
of like a line drawn in the sand to me, which is the same energy I have been
picking up from Logic/apple towards digidesign for a long time.
Thanks Alar, yeah, I had a feeling I've read about it somewhere..
So, stay away from track 1 on playback huh? Jeez....
Do you know if the issue is object or output related?

Workaround:
Select desired faders, assign first one to an an unused group (the others
will follow, no need to hold alt-button), deselect everything by clicking on
the background, make desired volume adjustment, deactivate the new group.

Hopefully this will change, because Digidesign has
abandoned HTDM so now RTAS is the only way
of doing native plugins on DAE channels (as of
ProTools 7).

What's happening is a midi feedback loop. One of the midi tracks
you're altering is probably active (midi thru) so as you move the
faders it creates controller data which goes back "thru" itself
and
causes everything to jerk around and go out of whack. I used to have
the same problem with my Tascam 8 track with moving faders only in
the physical world.
Just select any track you're not using in the Arrange Window first
and you should be fine.

Hey f-erenc:
Are you sure about this? I thought the Digi advertising for the
Command 8 claimed it could run as a stand-alone MIDI controller. Not
as sexy as a real control "personality", but functional.
But to avoid my post being pure speculation, I will say that I've
enjoyed using the Logic Control when I've been forced (against my will
and common sense) to mix inside Logic.

I posted about this a while ago, and it's funny that not too many have been
complaining about this before. This is a real PITA, especially if you work
with many different layers of audio mixers. F.i. you select an object in
one
of your layers. Now you switch layer, select another object there,
forgetting the
selected object residing in the previous layer.
You move the selected fader in your mixer, forgetting that you just
selected the other one, and forgetting to clic in the mixer background to
de-select the faders, imagine what will happen
with the other selected, but "invisible" object in the other
layer......it's a mess!
Haven't all of you done that some time..?
This is of course a reminiscent from the days before grouping was
implemented
in Logic, when you could select several faders and they would follow as if
they
were a group. The way things work in PT, when you are forced to create a
group
in order to move several faders at once and keep them related to each other
is
the only the way to go. The "funny" thing is why they implement a
new feature
without getting rid of the old, broken one??
Seemes like Apple are in bad need of audio professionals with practical
skills
instead of software developers.....oy, just a hint.........

Possibly, this might be related to the track assigned for monitoring in the
Sample-Edit or Audio Window? (Track 1 is set as default)

Hi,
This is embarassing but I've tried searching for an answer to no avail. I
frankly don't recall
how MIDI gets recorded to audio in Pro Tools. I ask because I'm trying to
bounce some
MIDI in Logic 7 and it isn't working. In an attempt to figure out what's
going on I opened
up Pro Tools 6.4 & tried to record MIDI to an audio track. The only
method I found
functional was to record the input from my MIDI device to an audio track in
PT.
However, and this is what really has me scratching my head, if I bounce MIDI
& audio at
the same time, the MIDI records to the bounce without any problems.
Isolated MIDI
bouncing doesn't function in either PT & subsequently Logic.
Finally, I tried to use the External Instrument plugin in the ESBTDM bridge.
I didn't find it.
Is that because of the ESBTDM?
I'm using a G4, Mix 24 Plus, Unitor 8, ADAT bridge system.
Thanks,
Bluez

Aha! Yes, that might be a workaround....too change the output in Audio &
Sample edit windows.
I'll try that today. Thanks.

I just purchased an RME Digiface with the intention of using it for
CoreAudio connectivity
between Logic and my Digidesign hardware. (Currently using LP 7.1 and PT
6.9 under OSX
10.3.8. - with the requisite glitchiness from the DTDM driver.)
My tentative plan is to start from the ground up and do a clean (re-)install
of Logic on a fresh
Tiger partition... and in the process pulling one of my HD Process cards
and replacing it with
the RME (and going with CoreAudio only for Logic feeding PT - no more DTDM).
My question is: Is there any reason NOT to upgrade to ProTools 7 at this
point - given that I
do not intend to use the ESB/DTDM drivers any longer? It would be great to
get all the
upgrades done in one go. Is anyone else working w/ PT7 in this manner? Any
problems to
be aware of?
Thanks for any info!
I think from what I have heard from all the chatter on this board that the
PT 7 DAE is not supported by logic 7, not just the DTDM/ESB aspect. It
strikes me as odd that users of logic as a front end to their system feel so
inclined to upgrade protools if they do not use PT equally as much,
especially if logic is working and stable as is. In regards to the RME
interface I have always been admonished to use a firewire interface to run
core audio to avoid PCI bus overload issues, and personally I would rather
have the extra process card. Just my 2 cents though. Good luck and let us
know how it turns out.

Supporting RTAS would be a BIG change for Apple/Logic. I don't think
it's going to happen, either (just I don't think we'll be seeing
Digidesign add AU support).
Even if Apple comes out with a PT compatible version of Logic, it's
most likely going to be a step back for some of us. Losing HTDM is a
big deal. For me, it would mean no more AltiVerb 5 on the TDM side.
That would be a drag.
