Hey boe:
I find the solition.. u have to set Logic as same amount of voices as PT.
i.e if u setup logic
as 128 voices u have to set all the session in PT same as 128 voice. if not
when u switch back n
forth PT and logic. Logic will crash..
so far works fine for me now..

May Music Move Your Heart
Am randomly getting the above error message when opening certain
songs. Song will appear to load normally - then display "DAE Error -
9035 was returned by the DAE driver" and refuse to play back any
audio. Quitting and rebooting Logic solves the problem.
From the Digidesign answerbase:
"This error can occur when the hard drive being used for audio is
near capacity."
and also...
"DAE error -9035 when trying to playback or record audio. This can
happen if importing audio files or renaming audio files. This can
also happen after creating fade files or performing Edit smoothing in
Beat Detective on Pro Tools 6.0.
This is a design limitation.
This error message will appear if a Pro Tools session has more than
31 characters for the name in the American OS (or more than 15
characters in the Japanese OS).
Also could be caused by using illegal characters ^ ! < > / ( ) - ;
or international characters from other languages (any characters in
the Extended ASCII set. example é à)."
Does this make sense? My audio drives are not even close to capacity
at the moment - and as far as the filename length issue, it doesn't
seem to be the driver here as simply rebooting Logic cures the
problem.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
hi
you should change the audio recording path
it works!!

But - I'm not doing any recording, I'm just opening an existing song -
and I get this message upon loading. No recording is taking place.
Weird huh?
Hi all.
I was forced to work with Logic today, since there was no time
for OMF-ing everything to PT, and I also had to work with
the EXS in realtime during the mix, so....back to problems.
I posted about this a while ago, but here's what happens again:
Everything went fine until it was time for mixdown. Since I use a
console, I'm feeding the mix to a stereotrack in Logic through an
outboard AD-converter.
The record path thing is as sluggish as ever, so I cleared the record path,
in order to create a new one to a separate
folder. As I always do. I hit the record button, fine, but wen I
hit stop I get the following error: "File not found-43" Ok. Next
error screen: "Error code-43 returned by the DTDM driver". Ok.
Next: "Logic needs more memory to draw waveforms". Ok. Result: 2
greyed-out regions. When I try to locate the files by clicking the region,
I find them on the disc, but an alert tells me that the soundfiles are too
short
and asks me if I want to use them anyway. Ok, then crash! Phew....
The recorded files do show up on the disc, and although correctly
named with .L and .R suffix'es for linked stereo, when I try to import them
back into Logic, they no longer show up as stereolinked files, only 2 mono.
Also the names are changed in a cryptical manner. What is this?
I've tried to correct the permissions, set different record paths, nothing
helps.
And I use the internal S-ATA drives, no Firewire.
Sorry to bother you again with this, but it drives me nuts, If
anybody has a clue, please give some advice.
I've recently updated to Tiger, but the same problem occurred randomly
under 10.3.8 as well.
Oh yeah, another thing, imported the mixfiles into Waveburner, it worked
but the length of the mix was suddenly 14 minutes instead of 3.50.......just
to add to the confusion.
Logic 7.1
PT 6.9.2cs2
G5 1.8 DP, 2 Gb DDR
HD 3 accel
10.4.2
Pro app. package for Tiger.
Peace
Alar
Hi Alar,
Have you ever run the Apple Hardware Test on this computer? It's
contained with your original OS install disks. Worth I try.

It¹s possible the song has a recording path that does not exist or has
incorrect permissions.
Try changing the song & global record paths after you get the error,
then
save and close the song, then re-open it to test.
Also, check the permissions on your record path folder.

This really sounds like messed up permissions Logic can write some but
not
all of the files it needs. I don¹t know why but sometimes OS X resets
remissions randomly, expecially if your audio drive has any files on it that
were originally copied from read-only CD¹s.
Try downloading the freeware utility BatChMod from download.com or version
tracker. Make sure to get the most recent version.
With that utility you can set permissions for your whole audio drive or any
folder and its subfolders. That could solve your problem.
Good Luck!

Hi Boe, this is weird, I've never had this issue...
I would consider getting PT 6.9 and LP7.1, my configuration of OSX
10.3.8/PT6.9cs1/LP7.1 is definitely the most stable config since my jump to
OSX

How much stuff are you playing back with EXS-24? Perhaps you're close
to having your memory filled up. That could make a lot of things
flaky.
Do you have streaming enabled in EXS-24, or are you just playing back
from RAM? If you're just playing back from RAM, turning the streaming
on could free up a lot of memory.
Lee Blaske
Hi Dave and all,
thanks for all the hints! Finally I got it working. I don't belive it's the
permissions, I really checked that several times. But I will surely try
the software you recommended, Dave. Somethings gotta be quite
wrong if you'd need a third party software to get the permissions right,
don't you think?
What I did was that I changed my record path, created another folder with no
swedish
letters, å, ä ö, anywhere. Then it worked for 2 downmixes,
but on the
3'rd, same shit. Don't know why. I then tried to limit the size of the names
of my soundfiles in the new record path and again, it worked. At least I was
able to finish the project.
This doesn't make any sense. My partner had these
problems also from time to time on his second computer (new G5) but
usually they're solved after changing record path or saving the song as a
project to another drive. (Permission issue again?) Don't know why this
only happens in Logic.
No problems whatsoever with "The Other Program.." (PT)
About the EXS, Lee, I had only one EXS with a very small sized perc. program
loaded so I really doubt that it could be the problem. Have had other mix
projects
with a very heavy load on the CPU and maxed-out RAM with none of these
issues.
But, on the other hand, I did have quite a few Altiverb 5's going, maybe
that could
cause some of the errors. Then, on the third hand, I've had another projects
with just as many altiverbs without problems etc etc etc....Who knows?
Apple?
Digidesign? The plug-in makers? My mother?
Anyway, I can go home now to get some sleep......
Thanx a lot to you all, cheers!

Dave,
forgot to ask you, do you really mean that these problems could
occur by having some soundfiles, not all, in a song with wrong
permissions? I did copy most of the files for the mix from a read-only CD,
but I changed the permissions on the mix folder, checked it
several times. I had no problems doing Audiosuite changes to some of
these files, which I trust i would have if I wouldn't be allowed to
read-write?
I also did some add. recording prior to the mix.
In that case, what's the difference between Logic and PT reg this, do you
know?
Cheers

Hi All, thanks for all the help so far. An old problem has come back to
haunt logic - audio
file auditioning.
Last night logic 7.1 started refusing to audition most of the audio files on
my drive in the
import window. I assume most people here must have had this problem before
as I
remember this often happening on previous set ups over the last 3 yrs on
logic and HD,
however this is the first time i've experienced it in the month i've been
running tiger and
7.1. Its was occurring in a brand new project rather than a previously
worked on song.
The files it refused to audition are all interleaved stereo 16 bit 44.1s. I
checked that the
audio window driver selected was DTDM rather than DAE and my project sample
rate was
44.1 but no joy at all.
Also, a few of the files were playing back at half speed - surely thats a
sample rate issue,
but the files are 44.1 which matches the logic project.
I have auditioned these files before so I'm sure I can get around this and
have done in the
past - I just can't remember how! (its just crossed my mind that it might be
that old
chestnut permissions so unless anyone has other ideas i'll check that
tonight after work).
Best regards to all of you guys, Amory.

Alar, I've been following this with some amazement and I share your
frustration. (But not your issues, per se)
Now it strikes me: Are you running sound files from different locations or
even different drives in the same song? If not, just disregard this
contribution.
I had some serious trouble with this when I made the jump to OSX. So much
that I early on decided to simply never do it. After that decision I've had
none of those particular issues, mind you, plenty of others.
All The Best,
Erik
hello guys.
''
is there a really smart way of importing plugin settings and channels
from non tdm systems logic files version 5?
they come up as direct in out on the session but the plugs are
disabled and no way of opening them to either save or look at the
settings.
producing an album here for someone and the demos come this way.
the work around involes a pc laptop, logic 5.5 etc etc.. it works but
its a long work around.
markus
Tack Erik,
no, I always try to run the soundfiles from one location only. As said,
sometimes
it helps to save the song as a project to be sure that everything is in
one place only, but this time even that didn't help.
The strange thing is that this usually occurs when it's time for mixdown,
not before. I could do some add. recording of live stuff without
problems.
It's like Logic senses that it's time to finish up and thinks; ok, let's
give
him hell...!
Does the hardware test tell if your computer is haunted....?
Cheers
Alar

Hi,
It's so far... I am mad using a crashing Logic with a such expensive
system wondering everyday what I can expect for new bugs and errors.
So I want to change my Logic TDM System to native one for arranging
and use ProTools for mixing, recording and other audio-related work
(hoping that ProTools is going further with it's midi-part to jump
over completely).
I got a few last question before I leave this group and die happy by
knowing I have done what I could and not what my system allows me to do.
- To get my Midi-Enviroment into Logic: Is it fast enough to use a
Input-Object or is it really impossible so I have to use a hardware
mixer to get a few Keyboards into my arrange?
- AFAIK are there a lot people outside which are running ProTools and
Logic simultaneously. I don't want to sync them. With CoreAudio I am
able to bounce offline and export all tracks offline and separately
to audio and import that to PT. Anything about that? Is a G5 Dual 2.0
fast enough to handle that?
- The most important question: I have done a lot of mixes and
productions within Logic using TDM and there are much remakes to do
(like an extra mix for dvd, live-performances, new editions, etc.).
Am I able to get them into ProTools? I mean I know that there comes a
lot of work with changing to that, but is it possible to change
easily the DTDM instruments to CoreAudio and export the audio-files
to ProTools? How can I do that? Someone experienced in something like
that?
Something else that would perhaps stop me someone can imagine?
This is a great list. I will lost a tear if I really have to leave
you, but I can't live that way anymore. In fact there are a few
health problems here (concerning my chief) that are caused among
other things through stress through the crashes and non workable
situations...
Thanks a lot and best wishes,
Axel

Sounds like "irreconcilable differences" to me. Contemplating
divorce is always painful. Sounds like you might have enough nerve to do it.
I feel your pain!

Axel,
where are you located?
Maybe I could come over and check your system?
Logic IS crashing much more than it should and PT is getting WAY
better, but it should be usable...

Axel,
I can feel your pain and I know just exactly how it feels.
That's why I took the leap to ProTools a while ago,
although I was forced to work with Logic on my most recent project,
as you can see in my previous posts here.....
It's a world of difference to work in ProTools since
it's stable and solid and when you pass that first threshold
on the learning curve you really come to enjoy the audio
handling and automation which is way ahead of Logic.
Not to mention surroundmixing.
The only drawback is the MIDI, which works fine though,
but it doesn't come near Logic's capabilitys. I miss
the softsynths and some of the native plugs. Also the GUI
of the arrange window is nicer in Logic. But for me,
stability is no.1! Customers and family's doesn't like
crashing computers....
It's not a big deal to convert Logic sessions into PT. In logic
you can easily create soundfiles from your native synthtracks
offline by choosing "Export track as soundfile" in the File menu,
and then import them into PT. Also you should get Digitranslator
in order to open OMF-files in PT. You can then easily export the
entire Logic song as an OMF file. That way you dont have to bounce
your soundfiles in Logic, saves a lot of time, and your Logic regions
shows up exactly in the same place in the PT song. It's also easy
as a pancake (sorry, swedish expression) to export and import MIDI
tracks for your outboard synths.
I haven't given up completely about Logic yet, but for the time
beeing I will do my best to stay away from it, at least until
the Apple people comes to the understanding that what we need
now is stability and bugfixes, not more plugs, synths and fancy
bling-bling... And if they ran their heads in the wall reg. fixing
the TDM support of the program they might as well tell us NOW instead
of keeping us in this limbo-existens.
Then it would be a lot easier to take measures for the future.
Right? Or wrong?
Good Luck!

After a couple of years I have to do some work in Logic again. So I
finally updated to 7.1 and have a few basic questions.
1 Every now and then I get the old "can't sync audio to midi"
message.
This is playing back one audio track with no midi. I seem to recall
there was a fix for this.
2 I want the transport to return to the last insertion point, as in
ProTools. I don't want it to play from where I stopped. I know I can
hit option space bar to achieve this but is there a way I can set up a
one key command? (I also know that I can hit "enter" twice but I
want
to :Play, Stop, Play from same position.....3 hits)
3 This one has got me stumped. I use a Logitech 4 button scroll wheel
mouse. It has its own control panel that allows me to assign keystrokes
and modifiers to each button.
I remember in the "old days" I had this great system with Logic
where I
could click the right button, which would give me the magnifying tool,
click again and select my edit area(left button I think) which would
give me my desired zoom, click away from the track with the zoomer
(left button again) and then get rid of the magnifier with the right
click..............or was it a double click on "escape"? It was
extremely fast to zoom around and the one thing I still miss most in
PTools.
Anyway I think I've tried every combo and I can't get this or anything
like it to work.
Is there a method or what do most people use for fast zooming and
selecting areas and returning to a zoomed out view?
4 Why can't I access my F13 F14 and F15 keys in the key command window?
I looked for a system global but can't locate it.
Thanks for your patience.
Phil Buckle.

Just a heads up for everyone. On a good friends recommendatiion and after
MUCH compatibility and other headaches I have found a (knock on wood!)
stable Logic Protools setup. Here's what I do.
Protools mix hardware
Mix core
882/20
Adat bridge
And
Motu Firewire 828
I use the MOTU 828 to bus the CoreAudio instruments and tracks to the DAE
level of my environment by running out through the 828 and into my adat
bridge. On a HD this would be easily accomplished by using the digital ins
of the 192 I/O. I am only two 3 minute cues into it but all is working well
now that DTDM and ESB are out of the mix. The additional bonus is that the
828 is a 20 channel standalone mixer so all of my external synths, drum
machines and samplers including Gigasampler in the adat chain are pluged
into and submixed through this all of which gives me more voices and
processing in my tdm/dae tracks.
I have strictly adhered to the approved Os for my protools hardware 10.3.8
in my case and had to beb resourceful finding the correct drivers and
updates for my interface, native instruments etc.
I am enjoying my experience with Logic so far as a sequencer for doing music
to picture.
The tempo mapping features are priceless.
Its a shame that given its extremely open architecture its so poorly
supported. It seems like Apple is delegating its R/D and manual writing and
support to its customers.
Good luck to all!
MATT
Hello,
I haven't read anything new about Logic Pro+Tiger on TDM.
I'd love to switch to Tiger like in my native setup, but I heard of a
lot of people with serious problems after the upgrade.
It's adviceable or not?
My setup is G5 dual 2,5 ghz, 4,5 GB ram, OSX 10.3.8, HD3+192+96i I/O,
FW800 external drive, Pro Tools 6.7, Logic Pro 7.1
Thanks in advance for any input:-)
Ciao Fabio
