Hi fellowes,
Any one interested in a group about logic-tdm 6.4.3 with MIX Hardware?
(means MAC
OS 10.3.4 , and the unsuported version of Logic). BTW, does LP 7.1 works
with OS10.3.4
and Mix Hardware??
Thank's
Joe
I would be, please keep me posted.
I am using 6.4.2 with mix. does 6.4.3 make asny difference? where could I
get a copy of 6.4.3
After installing Logic pro 7.1 on a system with protool 6.9, OSX
10.3.8 I didn't find the EXS24 HD plugin in the list of inserts. It
is
in the plug-in folder of pro-tools however.
Can anyone tell me if I can use the EXS24 HD in Protools?
Tjaart Venema
Hi everyone!
Welcome me:-) I'm a long-time lurker, but first time poster, but I
hope to become much more active and hope to contribute a lot.
First, my setup:
Dual G5, OSX 10.3.5, ProTools HD2 Accel TDM 6.9, 96 I/O + 1622(legacy)
Logic Pro 7.0: Core Audio disabled. DAE& DTDM enabled.
I realize I'm not totally up to date on OS or Logic, but I'm a little
hesitant to do the Tiger update until I know that all my plug-ins and
and all functions of Logic 7.1 will work back with the TDM hardware,
vise versa. I know many of you are happy with it. Anyway, that's
not my question. And, I'm pretty sure this software version combo
isn't to blame for my problems. Okay, on to them.
I'm experiencing a number of weird little happenings, and I'm
thinking they all stem back to one main issue. Trying to FIND that
issue, though, is puzzling me. Please, any and all help and
direction pointing would be SO VERY much appreciated!!!
In no particular order, here are some of my symptoms
1) When I try to do an Audio Suite preview in LP7, I get a "Error
Code -7401 was returned by the DAE driver." message.
2) Trying to preview a 16-bit file in the Add Audio window when my
session is set to 24-bit global, it crashes (exits) LP7. I realize
that, unlike native (Core Audio) users of LP7, who get to work with
mixed bit depths in an LP7 session, us TDM/DAE users have to comform
to a single session bit depth....but isn't this a pretty unglamorous
way of telling you that a 16-bit file isn't compatible with your 24-
bit session :-)
3) Very short arrange regions (say, 1/16th note) won't play back
looped while in region-loop mode (checking the 'loop' box in the
region parameters box). It plays once, but doesn't continue
looping. Larger regions (say, half a beat) will loop, though.
4) When I try to import AIF files in the Add Audio window, I
sometimes experience strange file grey-out behavior. For instance,
in the Audio window, I start the add file routine, and go through the
steps of conforming a file (if it needs it - such as the case when
it's a stereo AIF from an audio CD...not compatible with our mono-
only TDM). That done, I end up with two files - .L and .R. Terrific.
Now, when I attempt to "Add File" for these two, the file dialog
shows them as greyed out. I know, I know...they're 16-bit. But, even
if I am in 16-bit mode in LP7, they're still greyed out. Here's the
weird part (to me)... though the .L and .R files are greyed out, the
original dragged-from-CD AIFF is not - it's seen by Logic. And, once
I select it to 'add' to my audio window, THEN and ONLY THEN are
the .L and .R files made selectable. Weird how selecting the
original then makes the .L and .R seen. But, further to that, if I
then try to import those .L and .R files, Logic crashes right
out...again, like I said above, is this because they're 16-bit and my
session is 24-bit? If I convert them using Copy/Convert, to 24-bit,
they load without a hitch. But, this just doesn't seem very elegant,
or 'right'. Can somebody explain to me if this is the normal way, or
what this is all about that I'm experiencing?
5) In a related sense, is there any way to do bit depth conversions
upon load, rather than doing a Copy/Convert? I'd love to be able to
just say to a file "Change from stereo 16-bit to split 24-bit."
all
in a single move. Nuendo does this. And in batch would be awesome.
It's almost a MUST for us DAE users who have to conform our Logic
sessions to our hardware's single bit-depth mandate.
6) Lastly, I'm experiencing a lag in my LP7 sample editor while in
loop mode. It never properly catches up to where I move my left and
right (start/stop) points when I do SHIFT-clicks, or with the mouse
for that matter. Makes looping up a break a bugger…I have to start
and stop (speaker icon) manually using space bar. As a test, I
disabled the DAE and DTDM and re-engaged Core Audio, started fresh,
loaded a blank song, imported an audio file, tried the loop points
again, and sure enough, exactly the same results. (and this was
absolutely using Core Audio - I was even monitoring through the
headphone jack on the G5!!! :-)
Phew...they all sound eerily related to being a DAE issue...but
WHAT? Hopefully many of you have experienced one or more of these
issues in the past, and can one-by-one tick them off my list. It's
making my life miserable trying to work with Logic and TDM, as you
can well imagine.
Many many thanks in advance. And, I look forward to becoming a solid
member of this great little group!

AS has a long history of bugs/problems. LP7.1 has it working apart from one
BIG issue. No Time/Pitch plug actions. I can get pitch based actions
sporadically at best but NEVER Timestrech.

Not much glamour there, agreed! I can't remember having this problem back on
7.0, anyone else? I would suggest you step up to OS 10.3.8/LP7.1/PT 6.9
though, clearly my most stable config since my move from OS9-OSX.

This seems to be fixed in LP7.1. I seldom work with so short regions so I
can't guarantee it, but I seem to recall someone posting a positive report
on this.

I remember this. I have not had this since 7.1

Dont know for certain, but I don't think it's possible. Anyone else?

I have not noticed this, even prior to 7.1. Hmm... Have you checked your
settings in PT's playback engine? How many DSP's etc? Also make sure you
have responding settings in LP7's Audio Hardware & Drivers.

Has any one used IK Multimedia Tracks TDM? I was thinking of buying it
when it comes out.
Mighty quiet on the ³Logic Node² front. Anyone know of development
progress
on using it w/ AU plugs?
Remember ³Rocket Powered²?

Digidesign doesn't show that 10.35 is supported with your
ProTools version and its associated DAE. 10.38 is.

Fixed in Logic 7.1. It's available from Apple directly
for US$20.

There are more methods to do this in 7.1.

Wow, guys, fantastic. Thanks for the replies, both of you. It
sounds like, and I hope, that me upgrading LP to 7.1 and my Mac OS to
10.3.8 is the magic combination for stability with PT/DAE 6.9 right
now. Like I said, I'm hesitant to go all the way to Tiger right now,
because I know for a fact that many of my TDM and some of my AU plug-
ins will not work with it, including my TL Space, and I can't bear to
give up TL Space!!!
So, I'll order up 7.1 and I've already downloaded (but haven't
installed) the new OS 10.3.8. I'll try the OS first, then 7.1, and
report back with an update.
In the meantime...I still heartily encourage anyone else reading this
thread to add input, concurring with, or adding to, the feedback
already given. In these kinds of situations, I always feel the more
voices who've been through it the better. I'm really wondering about
my Sample Editor looping points dilemma...that just sounds weird to
me...perhaps it has to do with the need to update, perhaps it
doesn't. Anyone else have this problem in the past?
Thanks again guys. Very much appreciated. Makes a newcomer to the
groups feel very comfortable and welcomed. I hope to return the
favor soon.

Hi List,
after Erics delete Pref Tip, I've deleted all Prefs by installing the
whole system yesterday for another time from 0 on, and on a new hd.
Nothing changed, nor better neither worse (I would had thrown all
stuff concerning Logic and ProTools and Apple out of the window if
so...)
But this problem I detected before. That was the kick in the ass to
do that new install, but it is still there.
I am working very much in the waveform editor for editing audio (such
as vocals breath and noises). That is the fastest way I could imagine
for that. But with the last productions (and Logic 7.1) there was a
bug. If I edit a region in the file, such as silence, the graphics
are shown all things correctly. Means by pressing silence, there is
nothing but a thin line at 0dB. When I listen to it in that editor,
it plays the old file (there shouldn't be one, cause I don't make
backups for that). If I repeat playing it (without looping the
region) it plays anytime the edited region correctly. Means I hear
nothing if done silence. But sometimes at the second time, sometimes
later up to the 8. time.
If I work with silence, no problem, I can wait till I hear the
silence to check, if I didn't silence to much. But with pitching,
change gain, change tempo and so on, I would very like to know, if I
here the old or the edited region.
Someone any ideas? I have so many workarounds for all kind of f***ing
bugs, but that goes to far. I don't have any trust in computers/
sequencers any more and every time I do something, I begin to sweat,
cause I don't know, what results are coming up or if Logic just
disappears and is gone.
Much much regards to that great list,
Xcell
P.S.: If I wouldn't know, how strong this system could be, and if I
wouldn't have invest so much energy, time and money to that system, I
would have jumped out that stuff one year ago, bought the new SSL AWS
900 with a RME Interface or something with Nuendo and a PC (just to
spend no more money in Apple) and all would be good........
Axel,
I can't reproduce this issue. I've hardtested this for an hour or so, just
now.
Silence, pitch, gain, normalize, reverse, etc. they all work in my setup.
When you are talking about pitch, you are not reffering to an AudioSuite
plug-in right? Cause that just doesn't work. But the "Time & Pitch
Machine"
is solid. This is how I usually work, so I don't mind about the AS issues so
much. I can't stand autotune, so I usually just tune words here and there by
ear. And this is stable in my rig.
What is your setup now again?
Mine is: G5 2x2, 2.5 G RAM, 192 I/O, PTHD3accel, PT 6.9cs1, LP7.1

Hi Erik,
I hate the sound of Autotune, too. So Melodyne is the one for me or
pitching by hearing :-) Should anyway be the best way. Yes, I don't
do much with audiosuite in Logic. I do all stuff with the simple
pitch command in the "time and pitch factory". Sounds good, is
very
easy to use, works stable till now...

Are folks having luck using the melodyne Bridge despite it's not
passing AU validation. I was hoping to use it this weekend. I haven't
had a chance to try it yet.

Hey guys,
Just wondering, in my process of upgrading (as per your suggestions),
should I upgrade my PT 6.9 to 6.9.0sc1 or 6.9.1? I won't go 6.9.2
because I'm not going to upgrade the OS to Tiger, but rather just up
to 10.3.8.
Thanks,

Hi,
just because you are answering to my mail:
no! It didn't work at the beginning, so I have a workaround and use
it still (perhaps it isn't necassary anymore).
For me it's very fast to edit in Logic, than make another track in
the arrange from the same track in the enviroment. Copy the regions
and merge them. Then I open Melodyne, click, "don't connect to
host"
and use the internal soundcard (digital out). I can edit than in
Melodyne, export it and load it into Logic. Sounds complicated but is
very fast... I have the Presenous CentralStation with Remotecontrole
and can switch fast between 4 different Inputs. So no problem to
switch between Logic and Melodyne, running on one Computer through
different Hardware (shouldn't be a problem with a mixer or SPL SMC or
whatever you use, too).
I would give that way a try, as I said, seems slow - - - is fast :-)
Success,
Axel

Very easily.
I switched from a Logic TDM to native, and have had a much better time -
creatively and technically.
Latency is not an issue any more and there are so many great native
plugins that compete with TDM. And thankfully I no longer have the
horrible ESB hassle when I want to mix in Logic with the Logic plugins
and instruments.
The best bit though is the music that's coming out and the happy clients.

I am reposting this message since I was unsuccessful getting any
responses before. I am eager to find these answers.
1) Anyone know how to export/bounce multiple regions on 1 track in the
arrange window into individual wav files? The manual tells how to do
this with multiple tracks, but not multiple regions on ONE track.
2) I have a mouse with a vertical slider on the top for my index
finger. Can I asign this to the horizontal zoom in the arrange window?
You can do this in Sonic Foundry Acid and makes zooming sooo much
faster.
Thanks in advance.
Hey Axel! Sorry I forgot to mention, I'm on 10.3.8.
Are you sure you're running 10.4.1 with PT 6.9cs1? That is not supposed to
be compatible. You need 6.9.2. If this is so, it might very well be the
cause of your problem...

Hey Pete! That's interesting. Obviously that's something I want to look
into. What interface solution are you using? I totally agree about great
native plugins, i run a native mobile setup myself. But I gotta say that
latency are bugging me on that one. How are you dealing with this? When I
get down to sample buffers that I can stand, the audio starts popping and
cracking. Is this due to my limited CPU power in the G4PB? Will a G5 handle
it flawlessly? As you might have read in my original post, I like to record,
program and sing through compressors and eq's. Direct monitoring won't do it
for me. In that case I would have to by a mixing console + hardware
compressors etc. A bit too pricy for me, and not versatile enough for what I
do. Don't get me wrong, I love the real-deal. I just can't afford it.
TIA,
Erik

Oh no.. don't mention the N-word, this is the Logic TDM list after all. Do
not obey to Apple's evil band in a box plan. Resist, and demand TDM
attention !
Getting the best of both worlds, that's what it's all about here.
I have never had so much trouble with my combo that I would even remotely
consider dropping HD. But of course it all depends on each ones needs and
routines.

Yeah...I was surprised as well:-) They must have heard us, as they
released the official 6.9.1 the same day as my original posting, or
pretty close, on June 27...this past Monday? Pretty timely. So,
should I do it? Do you see reason for me to go 6.9.1? From what
they say in the update info, it doesn't sound like it has anything
that could HURT if I decided to go for it, right?
Thanks,

Sorry, no I am using 6.9.2cs1. I was to fast...
Perhaps I should do all again, but with Panther... I hate it. But I
have to stay as I am for the next time, cause we don't have the time
do spend another whole day in installing things.
Thanks for help!
