Those of you running Tiger/DAE 6.9.2/L7.1, are you having problems with a
greyed out "TDM
DSP Usage" in the Audio Menue?

Yes, that´s the problem.
As soon as I changed the recording file type to AIFF the bounce succeeded.
Strange. Where´s the relation there?
Why does Apple not list their known issues? Those things can cost a day or
more. :-(

Guys: I have just upgraded my old MIX|3-and-DP4-on-OS9 system to a
brand new HD3-
Logic7-on-Panther, and it seems that a lot has happened on these
matters, the main
problem I am encountering is that as I had enabled CoreAudio, DAE and
DTDM drivers, I
am not able to create audio instrument tracks anymore!!! Anyone that
has the patience for
explaining this to a newbie?
You can¹t use all 3 audio drivers, only 2 of them. Core Audio and DTDM
do
not play nice with each other.
Disable the core audio driver and keep DTDM and DAE enabled. Use DTDM
objects for your audio instruments. Assign them to output to an ESB pair.
Then make a DAE AUX object and sent the input to the same ESB pair.

Hi all,
Anyone experienced automation problems? I am doing a long mix of several
tracks, and
Logic periodically ignores automated fader movements. Stopping and starting
fixes it, but
that's not much good...
Fixes anyone?

Hi everybody,
Here I am again. I have been a long time gone from this group, because all
these
messages are bringing me down.
Now that I have LP 7.1 on my computer:
I think LP is getting slower and slower and worse and worse.
Is it just me, or do you guys feel the same?
Best Regards
Ingo
Ok guys.
Anyone dared tried it out for real.
Tiger/logic7/pt hd accel
Especially interested if u are multitrack recording on hd accel g5 combo.
Thinking of taking the plunge tomorrow before I start the next big project
on Wednesday.
Best
Markus
No Problems here...
But I didn't do multitrack recording yet since I moved to Tiger. Just
up to stereo.
Hope it helps anyway,

Thanks Dave for answering so fast! I will shut CoreAudio off now.
The next question I guess it should be:
What is the use of each driver?
If I turn CoreAudio, what am I going to be missing?
I need a lot of power but without messing up my system.
Nacho
Don't know if this can have any bearing on things, but I've heard
that Virex can slow computer operations down. Is Virex installed on
the computer in question?

hey bob.. what is your current setup? Still running on a G4 here also
i have read a few threads back that people are having issues with the
esb and dtdmi tracks.
one solution being installing an addtional audio card with lightpipe
or adat and patching that
directly into the 192 on an hd system.
has anyone done this?
is there marked improvements in stability so far as using dtdmi / au
instruments on these "native" style tracks?
i am thinking of getting an rme DIGI9652 and wanted to see if anyone
has any experience
with this method of working. i am simply done with unwanted tdm
errors or A.U.Q. errors
and am ready to try alternate solutions to the problem.
thank you.

G5 2.5DP/4.5GB RAM/LP 6.4.3/OSX.3.8/PTHD3/ATTO SCSI/EXPANSION CHASSIS/
Core audio and DTDM are the same thing with two differences: Core audio
connects to external audio interfaces (but not the Pro Tools TDM ones) It
can do input and output, but it does not connect to DAE/TDM objects.
DTDM (direct TDM) does not connect to outside devices at all, but it
connects through the ESB (Emagic System Bridge) to send its audio to DAE/TDM
objects.
The processing of the audio instruments and apple loops and native Logic
plugins are the same for DTDM and Core Audio.
Think of the TDM mixer and the native mixer as two separate mixers. The
native one can be either core audio or DTDM but not both. To get the sound
from native to TDM, you can use DTDM and the ESB software bridge, or you can
use Core audio instead but then you need an external hardware interface
(such as the MOTU 828) to use a lightpipe and send the audio into the
digidesign interface.
So DTDM is easier. What it does not give you that the core audio method
gives you is a way to send the sound back from TDM to native but most
people don¹t need that.
There is a lot about this in the manual, so even though it¹s a slog, I
recommend you look these things up and read all the boring details!

Virex support has been dropped by Apple as of 10.4 anyway, so why keep it
around?
As of 10.4 there is no good anti-virus solution for OS X but it does not eem
to be an issue.

G4 933, 1Gig Ram,
OS X 10.3.9
PT HD2 - 192i/o
I may get a firwire i/o so I can skip the ESB, but for now I deal
with ESB and it sure is convenient.
Also, as of this morning, I'm contemplating getting one of the MAGMA
expansion chassis for my powebook. I'm getting tired of constantly
dancing around with setups on both machines and trying to remember
what was installed on one and not the other etc. etc. but I don't
know, the lack of L3 cache on these powerbooks seems to be kind of a
bummer when it comes to native processing.
anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hi.
I don't quite understand what you mean by this. Do you mean you can't
record into logic via DTDM/ESB? And that's why you use DAE alongside
it?
I'm curious as I just transfered to DTDM and DAE rather than CoreAudio.
Richard.
Yes, that is correct you cannot record outside audio into a DTDM
track.
You can move audio tracks from DAE to DTDM for example if you want to
use
a Logic plugin to process the recorded audio. But there is no way to get
live audio from the external inputs to the native tracks in DTDM. DTDM does
not have access to any external audio hardware other than output,
through
ESB, into the TDM mixer.

Thanks Dave.
That's fine. Just little things like that take a bit of getting used to.
So far things are running much better than with CoreAudio (fingers
crossed).
Cheers,

Hi Everybody,
the progress is going backwards for me, from feeling that stability
was improved with 7.1 update, I'm now getting back to the state
of 7.01. I would be very glad for any help or comments on this:
Had several crashes in a row now, does "clock sleep trap" and
"nanoclock sleep" in the crash log say anything to you?
When zooming in on regions for fine-editing, does your graphics
slow down, making everything unbearably sluggish?
The song rec. path problem is still there, so is the problems with
Ampfarm 3 and Izotope Trash. For me.
For you that have upgraded to Tiger, how's stability? Despite the issues
that some of you already reported.
I will now quit using Logic for a while, since I'm dead tired of all these
timeconsuming little "issues" and the simply unbearable lack of
support
and/or information from Apple who's pretending that everything is fine
with their "Pro" program.
Seems like moving to ProTools is the only way to get a life right now,
at least they speak to their customers,
but I'll be monitoring this list to see what happens, and I'd be glad for
any
help and comments on my questions. I'd also would like to express my
deep gratitude to everybody on this list that has provided all the useful
tips and help needed to continue working with Logic.
Thanks, Alar

I upgraded one OS partition to Tiger and I think things have slowed
down and become more flakey with logic.
I've gone back to 10.3.9 for the time being.

Hi Alar
Sorry to hear about your problems.
Certainly, something must be off in your system because Logic
7.1/PT6.9/10.3.8 is working well for many on this list.
I can¹t reply about Tiger since I haven¹t upgraded yet. Some have
taken the
jump but my feeling is to wait for more reports on that before I do.
If you would rather get your Logic system working than switch to Pro Tools
though, it is possible. Try posting all the details here, including your
system configuration and maybe someone will have a solution.
I also believe that it would be possible for you to get help from both Apple
and Digi if you take approach tech support in an organized, friendly yet
assertive manner. There were some excellent posts about working with tech
support in this list which you can read on the yahoo groups website (look
for the thread digi-apple relationship).
There is also a searchable forum on the Apple support site I have found
helpful have you tried that?
Good luck!
