Hi, i´m using a magma 7 slot 32 bit, with HD 3 accel. Works fine on G5 with ProTools, but with Logic 6.43 aprox. two crashes per day while loading new songs with many DAE Plugs in conjunction with NI Kontakt. Without NI-Plugs almost no problems... I'm not sure of the circumstances that trigger its problems, and I haven't seen them for a while (maybe an old bug?), but it has a history of loading everything three times. So what I'm wondering is if it's shuffling memory around. If so, that would relate to your having problems with lots of TDM plug-ins. Perhaps the solution is either more RAM or lighter loads in each Kontakt instance would solve the problem? *** By the way, the Magma chassis doesn't allow MIX hardware to work on G5s, in case anyone was curious. :( Nick Batzdorf, editor/publisher Virtual Instruments magazine - the world of softsynths and samplers www.Virtualinstrumentsmag.com 1-877 VImagzn (846-2496) 818/905-9101, cell 590-9101

Oh yeah, stats ... G5 2x2 2.5gig ram/ OS 10.4 /Logic 7.1 /Protools 6.9.2 Protools works great. Logic 7.1 gets the splash screen the freezes (HUNG) with a "setting up memory buffers" in the bottom left within the logic startup splash. Logic 6.4.3 works in this current set up. I have fixed permissions 427 times today. I still wonder if there is a permission issure within the Logic program??? I tried changing the Ownership manually... i have nothing to loose at this point. It does sound like a permissions issue, but you¹ve already checked that. Is all of your RAM from Apple or is it third party? If it¹s not Apple RAM, it could be bad. Well Apple RAM could be bad too but less likely. Here¹s what I would try next, and test launching logic after each step. Also, I would keep Activity Monitor open while starting Logic, listing all processes, sorting by CPU%. That can give you an idea of what is most active when the crash happens. (1) update your OS to 10.4.1 (it¹s approved by Digi), then repair permissions again, then test If that doesn¹t work... (2) disable spotlight for your whole system drive (open spotlight prefs, click privacy, add your startup drive to the list), then repair permissions again, then test If that doesn¹t work, (3) make a new user account and try it from there, then repair permissions again, then test If you have TechTool pro, you could try that. You could also start up from your installer disk and check the file system on your start up drive. Good luck! * Dave On 5/28/05 6:09 PM, "myronpoo" <myronpoo@...> wrote: > Oh yeah, > stats ... > G5 2x2 2.5gig ram/ OS 10.4 /Logic 7.1 /Protools 6.9.2 > > Protools works great. The fade files can get messed up. Try deleting & rebuilding them (audio window, file menu). If you have a lot of edits with crossfades, unless you know you will be changing them later, you can reduce the fade-file processing load by bouncing the crossfaded regions or doing a glue tool digital mixdown of them. * Dave On 5/28/05 4:47 AM, "peterlemer" <plemer@...> wrote: > I'm mixing a simple session in L7: 2 mono DAE tracks and one stereo pair. > > Occasionally it won;t let me PLAY from a cycle point without first telling me: > > 'File is Busy; oneor more files are open. > result code = -47" > > If I press PLAY again it says: > > 'Fade update failed > (error = -47)' > > Then it plays the data as good as gold. > > any ideas what can be causing this? > > peter > > > > > UNSUBSCRIBE: send a blank email to logic-tdm-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com > Please email logic-tdm-owner@yahoogroups.com to contact an admin. > > > > Yahoo! Subject: Sampler Instruments Alias
Message #21036
OK, after posting this on the list, I got mixed respoonses so I called Apple and they couldn't figure out why aliases do not work when using them to point the sampler instruments on another drive. Most mentioned using Symbolic links and I have read mixed results on using them. Either way the fix was simple. Leave the "real" sampler instruments folder in place and place the "sampler instruments alias" inside of the "real" sampler instruments folder. Hope that helps someone out! Euro

4.5GB would rule out that theory. :) I still think it's a memory management issue, though, if for no other reason than because it's only doing it when you have the memory stretched hard. The alternative is that Kontakt is having a hard time finding its samples, which I've also seen. > From: Thomas Rabitsch > Subject: Re: Re: PCI Expansion chassis + G5 > > ...well, i have 4,5 G RAM, isn´t that enough? > > Am 28.05.2005 um 22:29 schrieb Nick Batzdorf: > > >> From: Thomas Rabitsch <thomas@...> >> >> >> >>> i´m using a magma 7 slot 32 bit, with HD 3 accel. This has been a common problem this week after Digi updated PT so we could all go to Tiger. The fix is to go to Apple and download and run the Pro Applications updater (3.0?) for OS 10.4. This will fix the crash at startup problem. Weird that it doesn't show up automatically in the Software Update window, but I tore my hair out for an hour before I tried this on a hunch. Others started reporting the same thing over the next day or two. Let us know if this works. -mark Mark Henderson ---------- mark@... 952.210.4801

None of us and certainly not Gary Moore would have stood for the "interruptions" for a second. And I'll bet Steve Jobs knows nothing of our current problems with logic or the deficiencies in my drumming - if only he did. Most of what this group discusses are workarounds for problems that did not exist in various previous versions. Whilst all software writers have to grapple with the moving goalposts of updated computer lines and operating systems, my view is that Emagic have not coped with this well, despite seemingly being in bed with Apple for a lot longer than just post the purchase. But the real issue is their inability as a team to foresee and control the consequences of the code one team member writes, on other parts of the program. Having done considerable programming in low level code (a hobby for those long boring days on the road,) and having seen the workings of several software writing companies close up, I know that it is this control process that is vital to an evolving program. Can you hear me Steve.....shall I play louder? Jon hiseman

Subject: Replace Environment - what am i doing wrong?
Message #21042
I'm mixing a suite of poems + piano + violin. I set up a session mix that worked - a few plugins, some auxes, a stero output, 2 extra tracks for stereo bounce. In order to mix the second session, I simply did a total 'Replace' of the environment based on the first session. These are the things that didn;t update: 1. text artefacts in track instrument names. I solved this by doing a total CUT ( of entire Environment0 and re-PASTE 2. Tracks that were sent to bus 1&2 now sent to output 1&2 3. Track number allocations wrong 4. Track input allocations wrong 5. Track output allocations wrong 6. No plug-ins 7. No pans Is there a reference in the manual how to do this: ie. how to apply a successful specie mix to a number of sessions? tia peter

The manual says you can do it, but I have never seen it work. Instead, the way I do it is like this: Duplicate the song with the wanted environment under a new name. Erase all the track data and automation in that new song. Close the song. Open the song with the new tracks that you want to mix. Select all of the arrange page objects. Copy to clipboard. Open the new song. Paste all the tracks you copied. Then go through and make corrections as need to match the tracks to the environment. If anyone else has a better procedure, I would love to find out the environment replace problems have been fixed and can now be used! * dAve On 5/29/05 3:56 PM, "peterlemer" <plemer@...> wrote: > I'm mixing a suite of poems + piano + violin. > > I set up a session mix that worked - a few plugins, some auxes, a stero > output, 2 extra > tracks for stereo bounce. > > In order to mix the second session, I simply did a total 'Replace' of the > environment based > on the first session. > > These are the things that didn;t update: > > 1. text artefacts in track instrument names. > I solved this by doing a total CUT ( of entire Environment0 and re-PASTE > > 2. Up till Ver7 this is what I used to do. This approach got broke for me in ver7. Since 7.1 it's working again. One thing that is critical about this approach is that you set the tempo of the song you're pasting your regions into the same as the tempo from the song they come from. Also if you're copying midi regions make sure you "Turn Aliases To Real Copies" before you cut & paste as these get messed up badly in this copy from one song to another stuff. I've just tested the import by total replace again and it does seem to work very well indeed but it is a 2 part process and to the best of my knowledge this is not made very clear anywhere in the manual. Open the mix template song with plugs/ instruments etc. Then go to the Audio Configuration window and invoke Copy from the local menu. Close that song. Open up the song with the recorded tracks in it you want to mix. Do the environment total replace. Then go to the Audio Configuration window and invoke Paste from the local menu. This worked perfectly for me just now in 7.1 & OS X.3.9. Plugins, instruments, names, everything. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Paul Najar Jaminajar Music Production www.jaminajar.com

Hey Erik! Been offline. It's not the group it's just me! I have swapped from CoreAudio to using both the ESB (thru DTDM) and DAE. DAE for Audio Tracks (so its going straight out the 192) and then DTDM for Audio Instruments. Buses I have 1-8 thru ESB/DTDM (so I can use the awesome Space Designer verb), and the 9-16 thru DAE. Thought it was working ok, but crashed again now. Seems to take a little longer to crash, which is something I guess. Signing off now. Thanks R. Hi Everyone Has anyone been able to make Direct I/O work on a G5 with an HD2 and Pro Tools 6.9 installed? TDM seems fine, Coreaudio is workable, but the ESB I/O is just not working for me. Any suggestions? Thanks Scott Wilson

It¹s working for many of us. What specifically is the problem? * Dave On 5/29/05 7:45 AM, "OtherWorld" <otherworld@...> wrote: > Hi Everyone > > Has anyone been able to make Direct I/O work on a G5 with an HD2 and Pro > Tools 6.9 installed? > > TDM seems fine, Coreaudio is workable, but the ESB I/O is just not working > for me. > > Any suggestions? > > Thanks > > Scott Wilson > > > > > UNSUBSCRIBE: send a blank email to logic-tdm-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com > Please email logic-tdm-owner@yahoogroups.com to contact an admin. > > > > Yahoo! Direct I/O inputs aren't working, although the profile loads fine when Logic starts. I can see the inputs, but it doesn't access the 192. This (#*$)(* asshole tricked me into entering my email address, and I just wanted to warn everyone not to be lax. He's most likely harvesting addresses from one of the Logic lists.
