Wow! Thank you Peter. Do you know if there are other symbols that changes a
tracks behaviour?

I think what you're after is this: you can start Logic disabling the
audio drivers temporarily by holding down control while it boots.
AFAIK there is no way of doing this on a song-by song basis, it
requires rebooting Logic.

Heya Mike,
Thanks for taking the time to keep us all posted. I'm keen to hear about
latency running this setup, how it compares with an ESB instrument etc.
I'm about to try out the RME PAD8 (using the AES outputs), and I'll post my
results as well.
Cheers!
Tony
Anyone tested it yet?

Thanks Andy, I think I'll have a go.

Trying to find a "cardless" way to avoid using ESB, the
Hammerfall sounds great but I won't have any free PCI card
slots.
Does anybody know anything about the M Audio 1814 Firewire
interface? It's a standalone Firewire in, ADAT out, 8 channel
interface. Would be a great solution around using ESB while not
taking up card slots.
Thanks

I personally stay away from buying *any* of their products after having a
major issue with their tech support back in 96 or 97. Also I've seen many
people having problems with their interfaces (drivers making Macs crash
every other minute and stuff like that). I don't talk about their sound
quality, cause it's totally unacceptable to my ear.
Best,
Andy

I shall give that a go ,although im sure there was one which was
specifically about disabling plug ins etc...anyone else?

Except that it would chew up FireWire bandwidth (which might be
important if you're recording to FireWire drives and/or outputting
video to FireWire).

Anyone using the Apogee x-mix card expansion i'd love to hear feedbacks!
Specially with Logic in mind!

what would be the limitations with the optical out of the G5 into

Lee - do you know if the firewire bandwidth is separate for each port or if
using the two ports together is the same as dasiy-chaining off one of them?
Thanks,
Dave
yes. been using it for about 3 months. works perfectly.
works well in Logic or PT. took out 888/24. What a difference!

1) It's only stereo.
2) If the G5's internal soundcard can't be synchronized
via its optical INPUT, then you'll have to use the G5
itself as the master clock for you TDM rig.

Any way to export Stereo regions to Pro Tools without massive renaming?
When Pro Tools Imports the right half, it renames the region therefore
disconnecting it from the left half. Logic doesn¹t seem to allow
separate
naming of left & right regions (.L, .R). I tried disconnecting,
universal
track mode, etc. No Luck.

OS 10.3.4, PT 6.4, LP 6.4.2 successfully synced via hardwire midi (same
computer). PT sending MTC, Logic sending MMC, 828mkII instead of ESB
(synced via lightpipe), core audio tracks & instruments streaming into
PT
auxes ... BUT, when I activate my Logic control universal (in HUI mode) in
PT peripherals, Logic prompts ³No input source selected²
relentlessly. MTC
loop??? Where??
I was almost there :/

Heya all,
Is anyone using MOTU Mach5? just wondering how it is working under ESB,
as well as any feedback on the sampler itself.
(I have a fairly large Roland sample library from way back, and Mach5 is one
of the only samplers to read those)
Much appreciated!
Tony
I'm using Mach 5 (OS9, PTMix system) and it works fairly well.
The timing is much better than Soft SampleCell and the user
interface is, in my opinion, much more appealing than EXS. The
sample import is useful but not, unsurprisingly, infallible. As with
other VST plugs you cannot make use of the multiple outputs. I
found that the best way to use it is to set up a Multi instrument
and patch that to the VST instrument (in order to make use of the
multiple MIDI channels). One bug I have noticed under ESB is
that sometimes it isn't possible to expand the instrument in
order to view the edit window. If this happens it is necessary to
re-instantiate the plugin. For this reason I recommend regularly
saving the Mach5 performance for each song.

Hi there,
Create a TDM AUX object, Insert an ESX-24. Play your MIDI directly to
the Aux object.
Works here. (Panther, 6.4.2, HD Accel 3, Dual G5)
Greetings
Jesper
It's the same bandwidth (firewire is a bus), so the only way you can
increase that is by adding for example a PCI Firewire card to your computer.

Start Logic without Audio Drivers (Control while boot)
Load the offending song.
Open Audio configuration.
Clear offending Plug-Ins etc.
Save song
Reboot Logic with Audio Drivers
Load the song you saved
It's a workaround but it works.

Granite Digital is a good source for a PCI Firewire card to expand
FireWire capabilities.
http://www.granitedigital.com/catalog/pg25_firewirehostadapters.htm
Of course, if you're getting the card to use a FireWire interface,
you'd most likely be better off simply buying a PCI audio card.
A G5, with FW800 and FW400 might offer more possibilities. Perhaps
you could run your drives on the FW800 bus, and video and an audio
interface on the FW400 bus. Keep in mind, too, that FW800 will
supposedly be improved on the next batch of G5's coming out.
Lee Blaske
There is on the G5 only 1 bus. Although you have 800 and 400 ports, they are
all part of the same bus.
Also note that this also implies that as soon as you connect any S400 device
at all your entire bus drops to S400 speed.
This is different by the way than the scheme with S100,S200,S400 where it
depends on how you connect it. The reason for this is S800 and above use a
different scheme than S400 or lower.
So in other words a FW800 drive will not really be using S800 if another
device is connected that isn't S800.
I happen to develop Firewire devices during my daytime job (my music is
somewhat to strange probably to consider making a living out of it :-) )
anyways I hope the above was clear.
So if you want to use a FW800 drive and use a device that's not S800 capable
(technically speaking S400beta would be ok, but I don't think this is the
place to go into in-depth technical background) you might consider getting a
PCI card as well.
