Hi,
Perhaps I am missing something, but I have been unable to find one
comprehensive
guide to using Logic 6.3.1 with TDM and ESB etc. I found 1 brief old
guide for OS 9
but much of what I saw is inapplicable now. My downloads of ESB and
EXS24 updates
had no read-me on the subject. I have managed to get It working, but
I like to study
manuals etc.to get my brain fully around the concepts in use. I also
would like to see
how those with Logic-TDM make use of the additional options and deal
with the
limitations. If not done already do you guys think it is a good idea
to designate a
place for us all to upload our autoloads for comparison?
Is there a Logic-TDM FAQ that I can download? Where can I read
extensively about
Logic-TDM configurations etc.
My Plug in's for OS X arent nearly what I have for OS 9, I am
running in OS X, but is
there any reason to mix in on the LOGIC-TDM OS X rig before I buy
Great Plug-ins? I
have a perfectly Good "Native" dual 1.25 rig, with M-Audio Delta
I/O.
The plan was to
track on the 1.25 and pipe into the TDM rig to mix in Logic-TDM or
Pro Tools.
What are the TDM OS X "Must Have" plugins now? (other than waves)
Thanks

In Logic for OSX, there doesn't seem to be any TDM File selector for
when you're opening/importing audio files. Is this hidden somewhere?
The regular Mac OS file selector won't let me hear audio files. I guess
it's trying to play though Core Audio or something. Even if I switch to
Core Audio, it works but it's sluggish. On OS 9, I can speed through
audio files very quickly, using the TDM file selector.

Morgan,
To hear files using the Mac OS file selector you need to create a DTDM
object in your environment - TDM cant play back interleaved files and
it seems other files from the finder window. The DTDM object allows you
to listen to anything from the finder window through TDM hardware.
Hope this helps,
Simon

I'd like to share information about using the yamaha console with
LAP6.1.1.
My system configuration is: LAP 6.1.1 on OS9 - PowerPc Dual 1Ghz G4 MDD
- ProTools MIX3 TDM (AD8000+888+AdatBridge interfaces) - Motu
MidiTimepiece AV USB - DM2000 firmware v 1.20.
MIDI comunication through LAP and DM2000 is via USB, using the Yamaha
USB midi driver. The MTP AV does all the other midi stuff (synths,
etc.).
I've been experiencing random drop-out of midi comunication between LAP
and the console, and sometimes strange TDM errors related to that.
Anybody experiencing something similar?
Thanx

hi there,
I'm knew to logic with TDM but I know it from native.
I've got a setup in studio with protools hardware(888's ad8000),USD and
Logic 6.
I want logic slaved to SMPTE code(via Linx Timeline) but i don't know if USD
works
with logic,Iknow there's no problem in protools but do I have to use a
Smpte>MTC
box(unitor for example) so that logic receive the code or do USD is
compatible?
What setup should I do in logic(wordclock is external)?
Are there any setup to do (USD or DAE)?
Thanxxxxxx a lot!
I'm running logic 6.3.1 on a G4, mirrored front, OS 9.2.2 with a
mix-plus system. Whenever I use logic for more than 15 minutes, it
starts to slow down: Menus take a few seconds to open and draw, EXS-24
takes a while to open and close, logic stops a while after I hit stop,
etc. It behaves like it doesn't have enough ram. But I have 1.5 GB and
over 300MB are assigned to Logic and 200MB to DAE. There's plenty of
RAM. I noticed that sometimes Logic wouldn't recognize the XSkey
whenever I had it plugged into my keyboard's extra USB port. could it be
that it's having a hard time finding the XSkey once the program has
started? does it keep checking for the presence of the XSkey
periodically? has anyone seen this problem before?
Thanks.

It's possible that you have a MIDI feedback loop. Try disconnecting
all your MIDI devices and see if the problem persists. If things are
back to normal, add one MIDI device at a time until you find the
culprit, and reconfigure that device.
If that doesn't take care of things, and your computer is connected
to a network, try disconnecting it from the network.
BTW, depending on what you're doing, 300 MB could very well not be
enough for Logic. Try assigning a lot more. Fortunately, when you
switch to OSX, you won't have to worry about memory allocation any
more.
Regarding the USB problem, USB is just plain flaky. If things don't
work, you need to move things around until they do. The keyboard is
probably not the best place to plug the XS key, because it's most
likely two hubs away (unless your keyboard is plugged directly into
your computer.
I'd highly recommend buying a *GOOD* hub, connecting it directly to
your computer, and plugging your XS Key and any iLoks into it. Most
consumer hubs on the market are pure junk.
Here's the hub I picked up recently...
https://secure.nexusds.com/pertech/index.htm
I have not had any XS Key or iLok problems since I put them in the
Pertech. I like the fact that it doesn't use a wall-wart power
supply, and that diagnostic lights are built-in. If things aren't
working correctly, the diagnostics give you some clues as to what's
going on.

In Logic OS X, when trying to do any kind of destructive editing in the
Sample Edit window (silence, fade out, time machine, etc.) anything
except normalize - I get the error "File Not Found Result code =
-43"
then "Error -43 occured while trying to read or write Undo file"
I guess normalize only works because it doesn't make undo files - I
turned that option off.
Very frustrating. I've got to use (shudder) Peak to do any DSP.
My guess is it's something to do with the OS X file system and hidden
file extensions? This never happened in OS 9.
Oh yeah, the way I found this out was because the Tape Delay plug-in
still has that bug where if it sees a region shorter than a certain
size it 'hiccups' before it starts delaying. I have to insert a silent
audio file right before the one I want to hear. Can't make a file
silent because of the above problem...
I want to like OS X. I really really do. But...

As far as I know this will be Native only till further notice. Your
TDM plugs and
instruments will run off your TDM chips, Your AU Instruments and
Plug-ins will run
natively as usual with the option to buss the instruments to TDM via
ESB for TDM
processing which will draw from your TDM cards.... unless they
develop a its a special
"TDM" version of space designer.

Just to add to this, I activated the HTDM demo, and can run HTDM and
CoreAudio alongside each other OK, but since my ESB demo ran out ages
ago, I still can't test that.
That still gives you the option of sharing instruments between DAE and
CoreAudio, though :)

This happens when record path corresponds to a non existing folder/file.
Just press a select a new record path and you should be ok.

Nope! From the Emagic website, about the HTDM Enabler:
"Allows you to use ES1, ES2, EVP88, EVB3 and EVD6 in TDM Aux channels
under
any TDM/HTDM host software."
EXS24 is not available in any software apart from Logic itself.
Your illegal/expired software message can be resolved by downloading the
EXS/ESB TDM update from the Emagic site:

That´s stupid, no?
It´s available in Logic on TDM auxes when you have ESB activated; okay
when
that doesn´t work in ProTools; but the costly HTDM enabler should buy
you
that feature - if it doesn´t that´s simply stupid IMO.

It could be that you simply need a faster computer with faster
graphics card. Beyond that, I don't have the links for them, but
there are tweaks and third party software that disables a lot of the
nice things in OSX graphics in the interest of greater speed. Perhaps
do a search at www.osxaudio.com (or post a question there). Of
course, if you disable a lot of the graphics things that use up a lot
of processor cycles, things won't look as nice.
Lee Blaske
AFAIK you MUST install ProTools software BEFORE installing Logic.
Have you tried to reinstall Logic?

THis happened to me. Cause: USB hub had come unplugged from AC, so it was
running only on bus power, which is borderline not-enough for Xskey. I
plugged it in and Xskey was fine. I don't know why weak USB affected the
speed
of the mac, but it seemed to. (?)

I experianceed the same issues but I use a self powered usb hub and it works
much better.

Thanks for your advice... Still i was wondering if the coexistence of two

Hello,
I get the "PCI bus is too busy to communicate reliably with the
hardware" message quite a bit if I have the movie window open. Almost
always will get the message when bouncing with the movie window open.
Whats the recommended drive distribution/PCI card slot order for a
standard TDM rig when playing quicktimes? I have:
dual gig quicksilver
os 9.2.2
logic 6.1.1
mix3 in PCI expansion chassis
miro motion video
motu 2408 mkIII
atto single channel SCSI2 card
80 gig 7200 IDE system drive
80 gig 7200 IDE audio drive
18 gig 10k scsi2 (80M/sec)
60 gig 7200 firewire (oxford 911)
currently I play TDM tracks from the firewire, native tracks from the
2nd IDE and video from a second partition on the system drive as they
won't play at all on the SCSI disk. (before the TDM rig I would play
the video off the SCSI disk).
thanks for any insight.
Judson
www.fluidny.com
I would first try to slow down the ATTO SCSI transfers (as Digi recommends,
AFAIR 20MB/sec).
Have you tried ESB instead of MOTU?
Do you really have to have the movie window open when bouncing?
