That is advised, when using DAE... 32Bit Float is not a familiar option to
me and DAE as well,

native tracks (and tracks processed via ESB) may peacefully co-exist at
mixed
bit depths (eg, 16 & 24) (so long as ya only bounce them via a native
output).
DAE tracks cannot do this, and must remain consistent with the DAE 'session'
bit depth;
this 'session' bit depth is set in its dedicated place within the 'Audio
Hardware & Drivers'-menu.
best,

This spawns a question for me as I use the DTDM and DAE Mixer all the
time....
I route alot of channels through the Aux and out to my main board via 9-16
(output).
Is there an easier way to add TDM plugins to the DTDM mixer channels?
So far I just either send it to an alternate aux (stereo channel) and apply
it there, or re-bus it. But that leaves me with using 4 stereo ESB plugins
to get all my individual parts to my board and I want as many as possible.
It cuts down more and more as I want to put the TDM waves eq on the
channels, rather than the logic faq eq.
On that note, how much memory does each ESB session plugin (mono and stereo)
take up on the DSP chip.
Anyone know?
Any trickers?
Thanks,

You can record the output of its ESB channel:
-Make sure it is the only thing using that ESB channel (mute the other VST
instruments using the same ESB channel).
-Route the ESB output to "bus 5-6" for example; then on the
destination
track (make it stereo), set the input to "bus 5-6".
-Arm that track and record. The resulting audio file is, of course, the
appropriate bit depth, etc.

As you can see in the table, Epic features some improvements in that
area over the previous free AutoFilter/TapeDelay TDM.

Hi,
Before Logic6, when I had the resolution set to 1/16,
and I moved an object, the smallest distance I could drag it
was... a 16th note.
Now after the upgrade Logic seems to ignore the resolution
and it´s really hard to move things around, (if zoomed in) without
screwing up the beat ...
Anyone else experiencing this??
All the best

Hi!
Anybody tried the new mini-controlsurface

Can't find any info on this.

My setup consists of both TDM and DTDM via ESB
When I create a new song everything works just fine. I can set up ESB on an
aux and play softsynths. However as soon as I import a MIDI file (using
COPY option) all DTDM object stop working. Also The ESB on the TDM aux
object disappears and is greyed out in the plugins list. Anyone know what
might be happening here?

I just realized that upon import of SMF, all my TDM auxes are changed to
TDM outputs, thus I can't put ESB on it. This must be a bug in Logic, but
if anyone knows otherwise, please let me know. For now I can just change
them all back to AUXes.

Yes! Logic has a new way of letting you move, sometimes it's half a Bar,
sometimes an eighth...I find this weird too, it has to do with the
zoom-size, but I have not figured a real pattern for it. It feels a bit
uncomfortable, cause I rather never drag something a half-note, minimum
should snap to bar or quarter-note, as it used to do. please!

Anyone out there encountering a problem in trying to crossfade
regions from the slider in the perameter box in the arrange window?
Sage
As per Lee Blaske's instructions I bounced and added (on the native
side) a complex VSTi with fairly marked used of Fx inserted. File is
created. Found it in Audio window, dragged the pair of files from the
audio window onto the arrange page onto two tracks set up for DAE
tracks. Fine, fine: works very sweet.
First gripe: the pair in the audio window look independent but
playing them only the top file shows a moving SPL though I am
obviously hearing stereo. I would think that the files could be more
visibly obvious as linked but not interleaved in the window. They
look independent but are not. They only travel in pairs. This should
be visually acknowledged better. Confusing to this newbie.
Second gripe: In the Audio window I double click on the file because
I want to reverse it as the first step to creating reverse reverb. I
am surprised to find I cannot copy the file so that I can work on the
copy. This should be possible, with a dialog box for renaming the
copy.
Now I have bounced a new file with the reverb only and reversed this
result so it will be reverse reverb. I add it to the arrange window
on two more tracks set up as DAE tracks. I slide these so the end of
the reverse reverb tails now coincide with the transients of the
original and dry forward file. Works well. I then add to these same
reverb tracks a measure of silence to the head end. I adjust the
length of the silent strip so it begins at the start of a bar and
ends at the start of the reverb file, which since it is aligned to
the transient of the unaffected track it does not begin on a beat.
Adding the silence allows this file to begin on the beat. I use the
glue tool, Logic says that the audio strips are discontinuous (why I
don't know - at the point of the gluing they are both digital
silence) and so a merge file will need to be created. Fine, fine.
Merge file done, it is in the arrange window, the audio window and in
the slowly growing folder of audio regions when one looks for them in
the finder.
Third gripe: I do not like the Logic - given name to the merge file
so I rename it in the finder and Logic throws a fit, saying that
the "File can't be found," even though I have just added it via
the
Add dialog box.
Wha? Is there a way to rename audio regions so that Logic plays nice
nice?
TIA,
Bob Vandiver
Logic TDM with ESB enables one to insert instances of the EXS-24 on
the DAE side similar or identical in behavior to HTDM plugins.
Is there any advantage to doing this as compared to placing these on
the native side?
Whoops - as I write this one advantage seeps into my cranium: this
plugin has gotten past the ESB bottleneck of 8 channels. Now one can
add more plug ins on the native side.
But is there any other advantage to going HTDM?
TIA,
Bob Vandiver

Yes, but I wouldn´t do that in the audio-window anyway.
Just double-click the region (in the audio-window or the arrange) and this
gets you the file in the sample-editor.

In the arrange copy the region, in the audio sub-menu select "convert
region
to individual file".

Rename them by double-clicking the filename in the audio-window.

Just in case part of this involves how Logic adds the name of the
processing done to the actual file name, it can be turned off in the
preferences (not sure if this is your case, but just in case...).

I just drag the Midi file right into and open Autoload.
Of course this ignores tempo info.
if I need the tempo...
I open the midi file... click NEW when it asks about the
environment.
If it's a fixed tempo I just note it and close the song and stick it in
the Autoload with the midi file.
If it's a tempo map/conductor track I open the Tempo list and
copy...close the song and paste the tempos into the
Autoload/midi file song.
For me, this has been the quickest way to deal with midi files
without having to reassign stuff in the Environment.
If someone has a better way let me know !! Please !

Unfortunately I need the tempo and meter changes and in some songs I am
dealing with there can be as many as 60 meter changes. What you mention is
what I have done, but I still think that emagic should fix this bug. They
said it's probably a bad MIDI file, but come on now. No other DAWs have any
problem with any of them, and the fact that it actually changes the aux
objects to output objects?

That is the quickest way, but you are forgetting about importing
meters and markers....

I know of two reasons to prefer EXS on the DAE side instead of native.
1. Simpler routing. If you're using Digi hardware that enables many
separate outputs (for example, one or more 888s running to an analog
mixing console), each EXS on the DAE side can be sent to a different
hardware output, the same way that any DAE track can. On the native
side, you're basically summing your EXS instances into one or more ESB
returns. That one ESB return lives on the DAE side, so it can be sent
to any output. But this means that to achieve the same degree of
separation that you have on the DAE side, you'd need an ESB return for
every EXS (or one ESB for every two EXS instances if you're running
mono signals - panned hard left and hard right) - this is possible,
depending on how much DSP you have - but not very practical if you're
using many EXS instances. I ran into this exact issue recently when
mixing some material that was created using many native EXS instances,
but had to be mixed using three 888s and many separate outputs.
2. Editing/Auditioning. This one's a little more difficult to describe.
Say for example that you have 5 EXS instances on the native side. You
want to be able to open matrix editors on these tracks and edit the
data. Suppose you've selected the first EXS as your current
"active"
channel (meaning, this is the one you hear when you play a note on your
keyboard). If you open a matrix editor for EXS #1 and click on a note
in the matrix window, you'll hear it. But if you open a matrix window
for EXS instances 2-5 and click on a note, you will -not- hear those
instruments. In other words, on the native side Logic appears to only
be able to audition the currently active "thru" channel for
editing
purposes. If all of your EXS instances are on the DAE side, this is not
an issue - you can audition any EXS regardless of which channel is
currently selected as the active "thru" channel. Now, it's could
be
that I've missed something in my setup that would make this possible,
but as far as I can surmise it's a limitation of native versus DAE.

I won't argue with you.
It would be nice to import a midi file and be done without having
to do anything else.
