We tried it, but gave up because of the horrible problems burning
and reading CDs and DVDs.
It's best to get a "horizontal rack kit". Something that mounts
the Mac upright. Then you'll be able to put regular rack gear
beside it (but sideways). Perhaps you have some rack gear
that doesn't have a lot of front-panel action (so that mounting
it sideways won't matter because there's not a lot of stuff to
read off the front panel).

I use it for my computer and sometimes it has problems reading from the
cd's. You have to insert them with diligence sometimes.

These come in many different sizes and shapes, from a variety of
manufacturers, so you can't generalize. Some use exotic cooling
technology, and are very expensive. Many people home-build cases,
with varying results.
If well built, they can be effective. The huge danger, though, is
running the inside temperature of the box too hot and gradually
cooking your components, producing failure of drives and other
components. It pays to keep a careful watch on the inside
temperature, and not let it get any hotter than would be comfortable
if you were in the box yourself. Actually, for long life, a lot of
professional studios and post houses keep their machine rooms lower
than comfortable room temperature. Some people plumb their boxes into
their facilities HVAC system, and that can be effective if you have a
supply of cold air.
The other danger is initially buying a box that can handle the heat
of your components, but then gradually adding a peripheral here, an
interface there, etc., etc., until the temperature is way too hot.
If at all possible, putting your computers in a separate room is a
vastly superior solution. You get the noise and heat out of the
control room, and you can also easily get at everything. Either way,
a commercially made iso box, or cable extension equipment is going to
be expensive. Extension, however, is a better long-term solution
because you're not limited to the dimensions of an iso box.

Just make sure you have a video card with an ADC port AND a DVI port.
Buy Apple's DVI to ADC adapter, and you'll be all set. I'm running two
22" Cinemas on my 1.25GHz with no problems.

Get the Emagic-Hotline under 00494101495110 from 10h-18h CET and tell them
your problem, they can arrange a new code for another demo-period, just tell
them about the severity of your crash...and have your logic registration and
XS-Key Number handy.

I have my g4 and 17" studio lcd racked using marathon's gear.
It's great but make sure to note that its heavy.... I'm glad its heavy but
make sure you're using a strong rack. (mine's in a shockmount)
I haven't had any problems with my g4 reading cd's while rack'd
horizontally.... but i never thought of burning anything while its
horizontal.
If you do a lot of burning to dvd then you probably better mount it
upright... although if you just burn to cd you could always use an external
drive.

You can import the key commands from the original pref file, but for
the rest I think u should set them manually, it only takes a couple of
minutes anyway. There is a pref folder in OSX under user/"your
name"/library/preferences/ the Logic prefs are now called
"info.emagic.logic" but it I wouldn't move and rename the pref
file
from OS9 if I were you ~danger~ ...
Haven't done voice/juice comparison but it feels like it can handle a
little bit more :-)

Will,
I have an enclosure made by KK audio which is pretty well built. It deadens
the noise a good amount, although not completely. Actually, you mostly DO
hear the fan that is part of the unit. But its not bad, its much quieter
then before.
I agree with Lee that putting your Macs/PC's/Storage in another room is
best. I just don't have another room.
I actually keep the doors on it open most of the time, and just close them
for critical live recording and mixing. If I have a long day of mixing and
live recording, I then take alot of breaks and open that sucker up at those
times. Its good for my head and the machines.

I posted this about a week ago, but no-one replied. Am I the only one
with this behaviour?
I'm using Logic 5.5 with PT|HD hardware. When I use "Add file" in
the
Audio window I get the standard dialog box OK, and I can audition any
file OK (by pressing the space bar, or the "play" button in the
dialog). However, once I have auditioned one file I am unable to
audition any more. If I select another file and hit the play button,
the file mins & secs counter ticks over, but no sound comes out, and
the audition meters don't move. Note this is when adding files into the
Audio window, not playing files within the Audio window itself. Anyone
got any clues?

Just noticed this during a hefty session yesterday. I normally have the
"Punch-in" option selected in the "Audio" menu, so I can
do seamless
punch-ins. Beneath that is the "Auto-input monitoring" option
which I
have as a key command also - so I can switch it off to run the track
without recording, and the performers still hear themselves on
"input".
I've noticed now that after recording one take, these two menu options
are greyed out. They obviously get greyed out while recording is taking
place, but then fail to become active again when the recording is
finished. The only way I've found to get them back is to disarm the
recording tracks and re-arm them again. Is it just me?

Same here Ian. I know that auditioning is handled by the Direct I/O side of
DAE/Logic, so it must be this that is playing up.
You can get around it by deselecting 'DAE Fileselector for 'Add Audio
File...'' in the Audio Hardware and Drivers, DAE section.
Unfortunately, you get the slightly less useful Logic version instead of the
DAE one which has no meters, no space-bar-play and no counter.

This one is just you I'm afraid - it works fine here.
This is with you recording through the DAE hardware, yes?

perhaps the Add File Dialog is using a Sound output device/port other than

Hello
Sorry for cross-posting this is a TDM plug-in issue, but it seems that
few
Emagic developers run around at the Logic-TDM list!
Here¹s an oddity:
* I insert a TDM plug-in that has a vector-type control e.g. Waves Q1,
where you can grab the gain/frequency point and move it around;
* I put the track into Touch automation, and wiggle away;
* Logic has now only recorded the automation on the axis in which I _first_
moved the control.
If I try the same in VST, then both axes' parameters are recorded correctly!
Yet in Pro Tools, the _same_ plug-in under TDM yields correct automation
recording!
Anyone got any ideas how to work around this one?
TIA, over and out - goin' home now...

Ian just wanted to say you're not alone - sadly I
don't know how to fix it either. I also can't use any
of the audio suite pluggins - computer crashes. The
ESB side of logic/HD turns itself off randomly, my
"The Grand" VST plugin has rarely worked for more than
5 minutes before turning itself off. Daren't even try
it any more. Know how to fix any of these problems??
Does anyone?

Me too. This always bugged me in Logic. With PT you can just toggle a key
and go back and forth between Auto and Input. In Logic I've always had to
take the track out of record and toggle.
Actually that was on the 9600. I have not tried it as yet on the G4.
Phil Buckle.
(I've noticed that TDM does not cut out like it did on the 9600. I was
forever turning a EXS into mono and back to stereo to wake it up. Funnily
enough a friend of mine still has this exact problem on his G4. Go figure)
Someone posted the method for using Res Edit on Logic to allow Now Menus to
take over the Open Dialog. This worked a treat in 5.3 but I need to do it
again in 5.5.
I've lost the original post. Could someone kindly re post it?
Many thanks.
Phil Buckle.

I presume you mean PT5.3.1, but....
Two things:
* Mac OS 9.2.1
* DAE 5.3.1
Add 0.0.1 to the Mac OS
Subtract 0.0.1 from the DAE
Then you should be good to go.
