Hi!
Can someone please test whether recording to Wav-Files works in Logic 5.2?
As soon as I record Wavs with TDM in Logic the Files are totally distorted
and noisy...

Peter,
I've ALWAYS had those sorts of problems trying to bounce direct to a .wav
file, not just 5.2. I have to bounce to sd2 then convert

Malcolm,
I haven´t even tried bouncing to Wav.
Can you check whether you have those problems with "normal"
recording to
tracks, too?
Thanx,

FWIW- I'm running Logic 5.2 with on an HD2 system and it has been
very solid and reliable. The computer is a dual 1 gig Quicksilver.

Chris,
Have you tried to quit logic, open some other program (non DAE) close that
program and then try to open logic again? Also, do you use Waves?
Pete Church
More happening.
I have been shooting e-mails back and forth with E-magic and Waves
support.
The final word from both: allocate a lot of memory to Logic.
And I did:
I gave a preferred size of 400 000 KB to Logic and suddenly it
stopped crashing with Waves when restarted.
They say that Waveshell needs a lot of memory.
The only thing that I find strange is that Pro-Tools 5.3.1 can run
with a preferred size of 50 000 KB and still manage to run Waves plug-
in fine. Does it means that Logic doesn't handle memory as well as
Pro-Tools? I do not know. But then again Logic does much more when
Direct TDM and Rewire are enabled, which might justify more memory.
Thanks to E-Magic and Waves support teams for their fast and usefull
help.

Hi Pete,
I just did it, no problem. I am using WAVES (WAVESHELL 3.5) but not Maxx
Bass.
However, something very weird did happen in Logic today. I could
swear that at one point, I had both a TDM bus and a ESB stream
feeding into the same TDM aux and I could hear them both, mixed
together. For awhile I got confused and started to think that this is
how it is supposed to work. I even started creating some new
screensets. But then suddenly, it didn't work anymore and when I
inserted the ESB bus it muted the TDM input (which is the way it has
always worked in the past). But all of that probably doesn't have
anything to do with your problem.
Let me know if there is any other info that I can give you that might help.

Chris

Yes,
Thanks to a tip on the list from someone about a month ago, I have
been running Logic 5.2 with 350 MB's. Maybe that's why my system has
been stable ?

Has anyone managed to solve the "audio suite preview
problem"??
And if so, was it RAM or Waves related?

Does anyone else have the problem where Waves plug-ins are not actually
activated properly when you load a song?
I seem to remember this being a problem about 2 years ago and its happening
to me again now with all the latest stuff!
Cheers,
Ian.
Should 600 of Ram alloted to Logic then be sufficient?

Hi All,
A friend is trying to use Logic as a soft synth host to be driven by another
sequencer on another Mac. This means that incoming MIDI on various MIDI
Channels must go to the appropriate synths. But incoming MIDI always goes to
the instrument of the currently selected track in the arrange window.
I've tried cabling the physical input object through a channelizer object
straight to the audio objects with the various synths. No go. Tried
"Channelize" on with the sequencer input object. No go. Always the
same. Etc.
Help file gives vague mention that this is possible. But what am I doing
wrong?
Thanx.

What version of logic ? Various instances of ver5 behave slightly
differently. But whatever you do, read through the section of the help which
refers to 'Split' and 'Layer'
modes in MIDI [you'll need to enable 'demix by channel' in recording
options. AFAIR, without checking, the current arrangement is that the
Instrument objects receive on
channels based on their order [i.e. Audioinstrument 01 = cha 1 and so on.]
No matter what midi channel the object is set to. But you'd have to check on
that.

How's it work in Logic?

Jeff, what you are doing wrong is trying to make something work that
cannot work. Emagic Logic can only play one live active VSTi at a
time. Actually there has been a thread about this over on Logic Users
just within the past several hours.

You're welcome Jeff, glad to help YOU out for a change (I like your
column!) Sorry my words are not helpful.
Sorry JR you are wrong.
I have done exactly want has been suggested here.
You can run 16 separate instruments but be warned that the timing is so bad
because logic cannot read what you are going to play in advance like it does
when different tracks have been recorded, so when you have a few midi
channels playing it is unusable even on a fast machine like a 800mhz.

Unfortunately, logic can have only 1 realtime softsynth active.
All environment objects and cabling will work correctly, but only on track
playback.
So Logic *right now* can't be used for that purpose.

Hey all,
For about a year now, I've been running a MOTU 828 via it's
ASIO driver along with my Mix+++ using ESB.
In Logic versions prior to 5.2 I've had no problems playing audio
tracks via ASIO (828) and DTDM via my Digidesign interfaces.
Now with 5.2, I notice that if I play more than one track of audio
via DTDM while the ASIO driver is active, I get a "Disk too Slow"
message. This happens even if I'm not playing any other audio
tracks via TDM or ASIO. Even with no active native plug-ins.
My disk is not too slow, and if I hit return the message goes
away and audio plays as usual. I get the message everytime I hit
play and audio is assigned to a DTDM track. If I quit the ASIO
driver, the message stops appearing, even while running lots of
DTDM audio tracks.
There is no problem running soft synthes thru both systems
at the same time, only multi-track audio from disk thru DTDM
tracks trigger the message while both drivers are active.
This never used to happen pre-5.2.
If I run DTDM and the AV driver at the same time, there are no
problems, so I conclude that 5.2 introduced a conflict between
my MOTU asio driver and the DTDM Logic system.
Not a monumental problem, but a bummer in that I have been
used to being able to chose where to output my native Audio
Tracks (via ASIO or DTDM).
Anybody else using both systems at the same time noticed this?
Otherwise, 5.2 is running very stable on my 733 G4.

Have you tried making the first instrument a silent instrument, and playing
with that track selected ? I haven't done the tests in 5.2, but up till now,
the first [or
selected] instrument is blessed with low latency, but the rest have longer,
but equal, latency. So making the low-latency instrument silent, the rest
play in synch. [I have
never gone above 4 or 5 instruments either]
