>I run "Action Menus" which is a more >sorted take on "Super Boomerang" and makes the open/save dialogue box much >more powerfull with browsing and "favorites" abilities. Except of course >with Logic, where the bog standard dialogue opens instead. I too like and use Action Utilities. There are two parts to it (purchased separately, if I remember correctly) :- 1. Action Menus : provides the enhanced Apple Menu. Works fine with Logic here. 2. Action Files : provides the enhanced open/save dialogue boxes. Does *not* work with Logic. Why? Because Power On Software, the authors of Action Utilities, have flagged Logic Audio as incompatible with Action Files. If you go to the compatibility tab in the Action Files Control Panel, you will find Logic Audio listed there, and also find that all the options in the pop up menu are grayed out. It's permanently set to 'OFF' for Logic. It might have something to do with the fact that Logic TDM allows you to choose either a standard OS open/save dialogue box or the Digidesign enhanced version. However, having said that, Action Files doesn't have any Digi products locked out under the compatibility tab and indeed works O.K. with MasterListCD and Sound Designer II. I don't know about Pro Tools because we rarely use it (preferring Logic as the front end), but I don't remember a problem the last time we had cause to run PT. The PT DAE open/save box, also selectable as an option in Logic, is a little more involved than the MLCD or SDII version because there are graphics involved (e.g. Play/Stop buttons, level meters), but as I said, PT is not on the 'incompatible list'. Of all these products, I believe only Logic offers the option of which open/save box to use, hence my wondering if this is what the problem for Action Files is. After purchasing Action Utilities sometime ago, you can imagine my annoyance when I found it wouldn't work with one of the most critical pieces of software I use! I asked Power On Software why this was so and on the assumption that Action Files had been tested with an old version of Logic Audio (because the 'incompatible list' entry states "...Versions Before 4.0..."), whether they could test it again on a current version, or send me a beta to test with Logic enabled in the list. I don't think I ever heard from them and now, of course, they may not bother because of OSX. Maybe we should complain to Power On Software again? Regards, Will Thomson, Dynamic Audio Production, U.K.

>Luckily, >there is a fix: Brilliant! I applied the hex data and it worked. Just a couple of points for anyone interested :- 1. The fix seems to have completely replaced the items originally in the Compatibility list, including several I'd put in for necessary reasons e.g. Don't allow resizing of dialogues for xxx application. Therefore, one would need to make a note of these before Res Editing the ACTION Files extension. As advised, I made a copy of the extension before applying the patch, so I can reinstall it temporarily to get my old settings back, then transfer them manually to the modified version. 2. As I suspected, Action Files doesn't work well with the DAE dialogue version. For Logic anyway, one fix is to turn off "DAE Fileselector..." in the Audio Driver preferences - don't really need the DAE dialogue frills anyway! 3. Just a small point, in Res Edit (here anyway), the resources are shown as graphics and "Skip #128" is actually within the resource called "Skip". It's only when you Option-double click that icon you see the name "Skip #128". Thanks very much, f-erenc, for this invaluable patch! Regards, Will Thomson, Dynamic Audio Production, U.K.

Oh well... > > M > > > ----------------- > Malcolm Payne Music > NYC > http://www.malcolmpayne.com That was what got me wonder.... Not to flame Stig (I´m sure he´s a cool dude)... but to me it is obvious that I _do whatever I can_ when people say they can help me... especially in a situation as he is in (the system is not working at all.... well half, more or less of the hardware is not seen)... :-/ This should also be a reminder to all other users who have problems... because (as most of us knows), there is _several_ hardware "dings" or specific software versions that is _known_ by us (tdm users) to cause major problems... which in most cases has an easy solution... Just on the standing foot (and I would _not_ be surprised if I´m totally wrong here), but is there not a "known" problem that MIX farms is _not_ recognized if using Quicksilver G4´s and older than ProTools 5.1 or 5.1.1?. I _know_ I´ve seen _m a n y_ posts about this problem on the DUC... and it was _not hardware, but a software (update) problem. Also another "hint" for people that have problems related to hardware or DAE/PT is to search the Digidesign (DUC)... http://duc.digidesign.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi Personally I can´t even count as many tips I´ve really gotten from that place (and this group of course)... My personal opinion is that... any _new_ ProTools user (or logic user for that sake) really _don´t_ need support from any sales man... Post on the DUC... wait a few minutes, or a day... and there is a 99% chance that some dude have solved your problem!.... I´m really happy about the DUC and Logic group.... because It is really nice to see how helpful "TDM" people really are!.... I would go as far to say that I would personally not have survived without _that_ support. PS!... I will _surely_ (most likely) need it more than ever the next few day´s, I´ve just ordered Logic 5 and will receive it in the next few day´s. :-) Well, I´m not an smart ass.... just realistic... I had the instructions a few years ago, but lost it. I made this fix around 1998 (DAE 3.42, still using the same one - never even needed a reinstall) and forgot about it. It involves resizing the DAE File Selector via ResEdit (it's ridiculously small anyway, and should be resized irrespective of making it Action Menus friendly). It's probably the type of thing you can kind of monkey around with, but I know there are 2 or 3 separate resources that need to be modified. If I find the instructions I'll post them. If you like I could email you my DAE and you could analyze it in ResEdit to see what I might have done. I think it involves the dctb, DITL and DLOG resources. f-erenc szabo, smarty pants (Tastes awful, but it works) Z+E+R+O+B+E+A+T "NOW POWERED BY THE MIRACLE OF THE TRANSISTOR!"

Sure, in fact I answered another thread here yesterday and gave this information. That's because that person actually mentioned which computer was being used (a G4/933, which can only be QuickSilver). 5.11 is the first DSI that works with QuickSilver (I'm fairly certain that 5.1 doesn't work) And you know, I got *this* information by telling a TDM conference practically my entire life story (well, every last detail of the TDM rig I was troubleshooting at the time - I got these answers [and more] about 30 minutes after the initial inquiry!). So the rig I was working on went from seemingly unfixable disaster to perfection in less than 1 hour. f-erenc szabo, smarty pants (Tastes awful, but it works) Z+E+R+O+B+E+A+T "NOW POWERED BY THE MIRACLE OF THE TRANSISTOR!"

Subject: LAP 5.0 update
Message #10295
I just received my Logic Audio Platinum 5.0 today from my dealer... I paid for the package but have a few questions as I can´t seem to find the information in the package or on the emagic site (ok ok ok, I haven´t read that much... you got me!)... I will not need or even be able to install the package until next week, I want to be able to use the "12 week limited other software" for as _long_ as possible... Therefore I wonder... 1: Will I have to send in my previous Logic _ASAP_, or will the XSKey 12 week time start when I install the update+key first time?... i.ex, can I wait for a month and then install and have 3 months to send in the old version? 2: Can I register the Logic update online from ANOTHER system(in fact I´m like many others _not_ running my internet stuff on the same partition as my ProTools/Logic system)... 3: When emagic receives the old logic version and I receive my _final_ authorization code, will the XSKey be authorized for good ??? I.ex, if I want to bring the key over to another computer or even _sell_ the package... will the new owner just have to install the software and plug the key in, and it works ?????. Ok.. stupid questions maybe.... however, I need answers :-)) Thanks in advance. Thanks. Modularmoog.
