i don't think it'll make the emagic support more efficient when you put them
on CC... but anyway- it might sound hard but try to move on, ADB is dead...
actually since years.
people complain about digi's PCI buss errors, FW might be a way to handle
bigger audio stream in a more pleasant way. in other words: some users
complain on the side effect of legacy technology, other ones like you have
their reasons not to move one. i guess it's hard to please everybody.
the new emagic dongle will make things easier for the average user, no
key-disc etc. and i doubt that many manufacturers are keen on challenge
response anymore.
take a look at http://www.paceap.com/ and check the pro audio developer's
link...

Does anyone know if Logic 5.0 is going to be capable of sample accurate
editing? I still find that if I edit a set of drum tracks - the cut is not
even across all tracks. Is there something that I'm missing? If I am missing
something then how can I cut audio evenly down to the sample on one or more
than one track at the same time. I feel like I am limited to the rough midi
grid in logic (vs. protools) Thanks in advance

We use Logic & PT TDM on a G3 beige (a very reliable setup to date). My
current plan is not to upgrade to v5 for now, not an option I favour
(having always upgraded in the past), but a situation I feel has been
forced upon our studio by Emagic's policy.

Hi all,
Any recommendations for a dual monitor setup with G4 533?
Which large, inexpensive monitors are good at the moment?
What's the current choice for dual monitor card?
I need a card(s) that can run together with:
pt mix plus
miro dc30+
Currently I run an old trinitron 20" off of an old ATI card (In
addition to
apple studio mon 17" on agp), and get 'PCI bus too busy' when doing
anything
slightly demanding graphically in logic.
Would like to replace both monitors with larger, clearer ones, if it's
affordable.
thanks,
Jonathan
I have 3 Western Digital caviars- 2 80 GBs and a 100 GB-
working quietly and quickly over here.
pretty cheap from Other World Computing
J
Here's a small but annoying problem.
When I start logic (with mix plus in g4) there will be no sound output
through 888 until I tweak some setting in Digi control panel (eg change
sample rate, then change back, etc..). Then there is that tiny pop and it's
live.
anyone seen this?
I¹ve got a G4 350 AGP (the sawtooth circa 2000) that I was thinking of
pressing back into service as my PT machine. My question is; what¹s the
skinny on processor upgrades? Are they worth it, or should I just sell the
thing and get a Quicksilver? I know for one thing that my memory is
100megahertz instead of 133 like the newer machines, and also the ethernet
is faster on the new ones. I have a DVD-Ram in this machine that¹s kind
of
handy for backing up, although it¹s only 2.6M per side. Any thoughts
from
users out there? I already have a G-port so I can use my serial midi
interface. This machine was originally my PT machine, but I found a B/W G3
450 that I¹ve been using and have had less trouble with PCI bus errors,
however I¹d like more native power.
Oh yeah, to make a long post longer: How about using the Promax dual card
with my existing analog 17² monitors? I¹ll have to peruse the
archivesto
find some discussions I remember seeing, but any one have a quick overview
of the ins & outs on that subject?
Thanks

Hi,
I have an ADAT Bridge 24 (8 months old/mint condition) to sell. Would ship
within Europe. Y-Cable also available.
If somebody is interested please mail me an offer in EURO privately.

hi there,
peter asked the other day if the powercore and protools can run at the same
time. i've just got a reply from TC: yes they can (they haven't tried PT|HD
yet).

I'm running two 17" Trinitrons off the Promax card. There are a
couple of semi-annoying redraw bugs, but nothing TOO terrible.
Generally it's working well for me.

Hi!
I tested the USB card in a Mac PCI-slot.
It shows up in the Apple System Profiler, but the iMac Mouse I attached for
testing doesn´t work there either (tested with Apple drivers and USB
overdrive).
The card seems to have a VIA chipset, I´m trying to get a card with
OPTi
82C861 (recommended by emagic, though not in an expansion chassis - they
don´t recommend Firewire/USB combo cards, either... :-/ ) and
I´ll test
that, too.
to be continued...

Thanks for your thoughts and I'll try your suggestions..
The exact message, which I slightly misreported, is....
"Direct TDM
System Overload
The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time
(-10011)"
Anyone heard of this one?

I haven't been able to find that error code -10011 in either Digidesign's or
Apple's documentation. Are you sure it says "TDM error"? Also it
could
very possibly be any application you are running. Do you have Waves? What
native plug engines are running? What is your digital clock source? I would
go through and strip Logic down to basics, then add the programs one at a
time to find out what's generating the error. This "one at a time"
method
is a good general way to isolate the problem. It's a "whodunnit"
approach.
Also how much of the 1 gig of RAM is assigned to Logic? There are recent
posts on that subject.

Michael,
I think that just means you've reached the limit of what the native
side can handle. confirm by looking at the performance meter.
this would probablt happen in any native setup, not just ESB.
regards
Malcolm
Yep... that's the one. Sheesh, Michael, looking at your system,
makes me think it's not processor related. (I'm on a B&W G3
350... so I thought it could be my processor not keeping up.) And
I never saw it until I installed ESB and started using Direct TDM
(obviously... the error says it's Direct TDM). As I understand it
(which could be wrong), the ESB plug is running on the Digi
hardware (not the processor)... but where does Direct TDM run?
Inside Logic?
Hmmm....

Michael on my G3 450 I can get CPU overloads very easily using Soft
Samplecell. If I hold out too many voices it'll happen. Most of the time
it keeps playing then gives me the error after I've stopped, but
occasionally it'll cut out. Check your DTDM audio prefs and see if you can
get things to run any better, but I think you're just hitting the ceiling.

That's basically all that's happening here. One tip - if you're using
the native renaissance reverb, it's a total hog. try another verb if
you have one.

Hi. Is anyone using Logic with some external drum machine/sequencer? I am
trying to drive Reason on a second Mac from Logic (4.7.3). But something
has gone wrong (it used to work).
Logic is sending MIDI Clock fine, but not the Song Position Pointer (SPP).
If I enable a track on the port that the second Mac is on, the SPP will work
a few times then stop. If I uncheck then recheck the 'Prg' button, SPP will
resume, but briefly. Why why why???
I hope someone knows about this odd problem. I've run Reason on the same
Mac as Logic, and it works great. The problem with Rewire is that audio
stops when the sequencer is not in Play. Thus auditioning sounds is
difficult. Oh yes, it crashes a bit too often as well.

It won't necessarily hit the top before it chokes because the error might
occur before the screen is updated.

I thought I'd already mentioned, I have successfully run TC Powercore on
DTDM with Logic TDM. It does work no probs
With some reservations (eg why would anyone want to do this?) If you are
running logic and TDM you could just get TC works TDM which has the extra
Master X 5 and Intonator.

HI !
Until few months ago, I used LOGIC with MOTU Interfaces, and
I have a lot of Session with many Songs using STEREO FILES
INTERLEAVED..
Now I'm using LOGIC TDM with protools hardware, but when I open a old
song I can't ear none Stereo Files.
Usually I go into Audio Window, delete stereo files and Import Again
answering "SPLIT" and then it's all right. But at the moment I
have
an old song (motu interface) using a STEREO INTERLEAVED FILES with
many reagions, and I can't delete from Audio window this file,
because I'd lost my cuts and reasons..
HOW CAN I IMPORT DIRECTLY THIS KIND OF FILES.
Sorry for my BAD English.
THANKS
ANTONIO
My advice would be to open the native session and bounce your tracks with
the edits as split files, then import the them into the TDM session.
