Subject: Happy NewYear + LUG action -> Powerkeys lowered prices!
Message #4481
Hi Everyone, First of all, I want to wish everyone a GREAT 2001 & a great start of the new Millennium. May it be full of luck, love and music! I'm very happy to be able to announce a new action with the mailinglists. I've worked something out with the people from Powerkeys so that we get a much lower price when we buy the following things together: the (buying) power of a huge community and the goodwill of Powerkeys are the keys to the lowered prices. Info on Powerkeys products can be found at http://www.powerkeys.com Here's the offer: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Powerkeys for any Logic Audio Mac or PC: 1-5 sold packages -> - 15%: $34.00 5-15 sold packages -> - 20%: $31.00 15-30 sold packages -> - 30%: $28.00 30-OVER sold packages -> - 35%: $25.00 So, the more people buy it, the lower the price is! For those who also want to buy the ProKeys for Protools as well, we will make you a special price as well: $73.00 for the Prokeys bundle (includes Quickeys) $17.00 for the Prokeys overlay only To qualify for the special offer, there are 3 requirements: 1- Order must be placed in the web site (http://www.powerkeys.com) in the order form. Only orders placed in the web site will be accepted. Phone orders will not qualify for the special price. 2- You must write the code PKLA-2001 in the comment section in the order form. 3- Order should be placed during the special offer time. Offer will start between January 10, 2001 until January 25, 2001. No special price will be given after January 25, 2001. Orders must meet all of the above three requirements in order to qualify for the special price. Powerkeys is compatible with any full extended keyboard. For the new Mac G3/G4 users you need to get the iKey keyboard from the company MacAlly. I believe it is $39.00 at Fry's.... There might be a availability issues with the Powerkeys Mac version depending on the quantity ordered.... (first come first served) This prices do not include shipping and handling. Shipping is $8.95 for 2nd day in US. International is $17.95 for 5 days Global Priority. Shipping may vary for the Prokeys Bundle or if you order 2 or more items.... Should you have any questions please let me know.... Best regards and Happy Logic Holidays Daniel Hamuy -- Daniel Hamuy danielh@... http://www.Powerkeys.com +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ PS: I suggest that everyone who buys one of these packages, sends me an empty mail (joeri@...) with "powerkeys" in the subject line. That way, you can check with me to see how many people have bought it. Ciao, Joeri -- Joeri Vankeirsbilck joeri@... I think AMP FARM is a mix card compatible plug _only_ (correct me >if I´m wrong)... this is most likely the reason for it to take that ship. if you can get hold of one try getting hold of an old, out-of-date version of ampfarm which isn't mix compatible. Message #4483
Hi all, I'm new to this group and i recently purchased the soundblaster live 5.1 with the Live Drive IR component. I am also a new user of logic audio and cannot get any instruments to work. I can hear them when i plug them in using a 1/4" jack, but when it comes to recording the program does not record any audio. I've checked all of the settings and everything looks fine but i must be missing something. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help me out! Thanks, Ryan

Subject: moving region in VERY small increments is buggy ???
Message #4486
Hi all, I'm editing some drums and there are a few things that is driving crazy and i can't seem to find the answer : 1- I'm trying to move region or group of regions in VERY VERY fine increments, but the region still " snaps " to the next spot without letting me move in between. I have my " Search Zero crossing " off and i use the control key command while moving the region....but still, i need to move things around even smaller increments then what LA alouds me..there must be a solution !!! 2- I often use "Split objects by song position " to slice my region or group of regions. I notice that LA does not always slice EXACTLY where the song position cursur is, it shift the slice slightly. I hope someone can help because after editing drums in ProTools for a while and now having to do it in LA is a REAL drag. My system is G4/400, PT Mix +, LA 4.6.1. Thanks alot and Happy new year to everyone.

my experience is quite good with TDM Protools 24 and the MoTu card. Just make sure you put the CPU audio card in your computer (not in the EXP. chassis) and it should work fine. Alex

Subject: Virtual Studios
Message #4491
All the manufacturers seem very keen to get us to go down the virtual studio route these days. The main problem seems to be the lack of a decent control surface that works with LAMP. Anything I've tried that uses Midi seems to be a complete waste of time. Has anyone on this list done away with their mixer and outboard and tried running the whole show from Logic? I'd be be real interested to hear about your experiences to date. 3dav

3dav wrote: >Has anyone on this list done away with their mixer and outboard >and tried running the whole show from Logic? >I'd be be real interested to hear about your experiences to date. There are many people working this way. I still have some high-end outboard stuff that I digitally patch into my PT TDM system running Logic, but I do all my mixing in Logic. That being said, it's my opinion that mixing in Logic using a mouse/trackball is vastly inferior to mixing in Studio Vision Pro, which I used until they went out of business. Logic seriously needs some updating in this department, and we're all anxiously anticipating version 5.0. Hopefully these issues will be addressed. Mixing with a mouse/trackball in SVP, PT or DP is simply more elegant at this point. Hyperdraw and Hyperedit are very klutzy by comparison. I loved the large palette of tools in SVP for drawing and massaging mix information. It made it much easier to do a great mix. In Logic, you get bogged down opening multiple windows to accomplish the same thing you can do in a single window in other applications. Sure, you can use a screen set, but your information is scattered all around the screen, and not aligned the way it is in SVP. Logic has a lot of good points, but unfortunately, mix automation is not one of them. If you've waited until now to make the jump, you might want to hold off and see what Version 5.0 brings. Supposedly, there's going to be an announcement in the next few weeks. With a well designed daw UI, a control surface is not necessary. Lee Blaske

Message #4493
Check out http://www.waves.com/ Interesting evolution - L1 gets ported to a hardware version, with improved spec (and killer A/D) - The resulting L2 is such a hit, it's been ported back to plug-in land! So this is an L1 with 48 bit resolution, right? (Doesn't seem to be any new features) Which means - higher sound quality and you can hit it harder, I would guess. Any other advantages? Use Control-Shift, but hit Shift after you've grabbed the region. Or you can use the "Move Forwards/Backwards by 1 tick" Key Command. > 2- I often use "Split objects by song position " to slice my region > or group of regions. I notice that LA does not always slice EXACTLY > where the song position cursur is, it shift the slice slightly. I think this is a display thing. I've found that Logic sometimes does not display the waveform of a long audio region correctly in the arrange window, even if you "Refresh Overview". You line up the SPL at the start of a drum beat, split the region, and the waveform jumps forwards or backwards slightly, usually a beat or two. Usually though the waveform is now correct and you can re-edit at the correct point. A definite PITA tho'. Ian ------------------------------ Ian G. Morris - Tonewright ian@... Worth the $720 intro offer for Gold Bundle owners? Thank goodness. Now we can really make those MP3's sound good! For some reason, I thought the 3.0 version of L1 used 48 bit processing. At any rate, $720 seems kind of steep for this improvement, especially for those of us who originally paid around $1k for L1. Does anyone think this will make a dramatic difference? Lee Blaske

Here it works perfectly! Seems strange that it works sometimes and sometimes not. If you use keycommands there are two different, maybe there's a confusion? € Split Objects by Song Position € Split Objects by rounded Song Position What I like about cutting for example drums in logic is that there are several different ways of doing it. For example; use one way of cutting an object/region on the arrange page exactly on the beat. Then open the sample editor to quickly fine adjust the start and end points without moving the anchor. If you use keycommands for as much as possible of this, it works like a breeze... Of coarse, this is yesterdays news for most of you! Håkan Glänte
