Phew! I feel for you. Makes me feel like getting more drives for backup!
Good to hear everything turned out well though.

Hi - I had this problem with Logic 8.0 . It was driving me crazy. It had
something to do with Apogee/Digidesign TDM/ and logic itself. I had to do a
full re-install of OSX and logic and PT's and that sorted it out.
Sorry I didnt have an easier explanation but sometimes you have to bite the
bullet.
I am pleased that you didn't lose any data. But in my experience,
Lacie drives are very unreliable. I try and stick to other brands,
like OWC, or G-Tech or even Glyph. More money, but probably worth it.

thanks Evan and all other replies - I agree, no more Lacie for me.
I've had good luck with Rocstor.
Phhhew! That was close.

When I cut up a string part into a new part I like, the sudden cuts
cause the usual digital clicks that a simple crossfade (or fade in/
out) would take care of in DAE tracks.
Since these are DTDM tracks however, there doesn't seem to be an
option for adding crossfades...unless I'm missing something.
Or I could bounce it to bring into DAE where I CAN add fades, but
then I would lose all of my extensive cuts and would have to re
create the new part.
ideas?

Try using the ³turn Loops into real copies² command and then edit
and fade.

Hi
I just migrated to a G5 dual 2.3 with Logic 8.01/PT 7.3 on Tiger -
I'm actually amazed at how well everything works - Logic 7 songs are
opening and playing in 8 with all plugs and synths exactly as they
did in 7 - DTDM works perfectly, ESB is fine etc etc. Seems more
stable than ever.
Anyone know if the same would be true with the new update (8.02)?
Thanks

Hi,
Been running Logic 8 for a few months - some good things but lots of niggly
bugs which we're trying to iron out.
We're getting a problem with Logic crashing everytime we import an audio
file - however when Logic reloads the file is in the project and plays fine.
Anyone come across something similar?
Also, for some reason audio files are playing randomly in a Logic sequence -
for example the backing vocals will play at the start of the track even
though they are not placed anywhere near there.
Hoping someone can help, we've installed the latest updates and everything -
currently running a HD 192 TDM system on 10.4.11.
Thanks
Jack
Hey Jack
Your crashing on import is likely your audition path in the audio
window. I am still on Logic 7 but it wouldn't suprise me this bug
got fixed in 8. Set the audition path to coreaudio or DTDM 1-2 and
reserve these channels for auditioning, don't use them. Also tiger
OS revisions above 10.4.9 are recognised as having some issues by
Digidesign, this is probably contributing to your troubles as well.
I'd revert to 10.4.9 if thats doable.
Good Luck!

I sometimes get this, but only with audio on the first one (or two,
if stereo) TDM tracks. For that reason, I usually reserve tracks one
and two for reference/guide material, and start my project files with
track three. It's never a big problem.
------------------------------------
I have been running it on Leopard 10.5.3 for a few weeks and I have had
nothing but trouble. Crashes, bugs and plug-in problems. I installed the
PT/DAE update yesterday (7.4.2) and i am hoping for a substantial
improvement. So far it's been very very buggy. I was forced to switch to a
MacPro 8-core and PT HD on Leopard from G4 and PT Mix+ on Panther in
February and it has been the most stressful migration i have experienced in
my career. For weeks nothing was working they way it was supposed to. Now
slowly all developers are catching up with Leopard but still there's been
many many drawbacks from this change. If i would have known before i would
have tried to buy a previous MacPro with Tiger support.
I used to participate in this group many years ago when DTDM first started,
but after a while everything was running smooth and i didn't feel the
necessity to know every detail about it so i lost track. I am pleased to see
that it's still around when needed. Funny to see the same people on it
(ferenc, Lee etc.).

i am on the precipice of buying a leopard core mac pro myself, can
you share your issues, specifically the third party developer ones,
and Protools issues? Thanks!

Hi Lee,
I use this workaround as well - works fine on LP 7.2.3 with PT 7.3.1.
However, on Logic 8.0.2 this "random Audio" goes wild sometimes,
playing tracks 5,6, 10,11, and so on.
Have you experienced this - and any ideas how to workaround that ?
Sometimes when I get this I delete the fade files (in the audio
window/bin), and when Logic rebuilds them (automatically) the problem
disappears.

It's still all very buggy. I would wait another 4-8 weeks if i were you.
Under the current setup (Logic 8.02, PT 7.4.2 and Leopard 10.5.3 on a MacPro
8-core)
following 3rd party products are unusable:
Absynth 3, Battery 2, Intakt, Kompakt (hence the EastWest QL Platinum
Library can only
be opened in Kontakt 2). Basically half of my Komplete 2 package i could
trash.
Also under Logic the TDM plugins don't accept numeric entries (no
double-click and entry is possible)... Very annoying
as i don't like fiddling knobs and faders with my mouse.
Now finally East West have released a PLAY version of the Platinum Orchestra
but
i haven't received it yet so i can't say if it's any good. Stormdrum 2 on
PLAY runs fine as far as i can tell since
i pretty knew to the PLAY software.
ProTools seems to run fine, at least from what i have tested so far. Only
the RTAS Melodyne Plugin
plays up sometimes (i get a message that the CPU is maxed out even though
all that is palying
is an instrumental and the vocal in question to be processed in Melodyne.

I appreciate your concerns but Komplete is now at Version 5!
Possible upgrade time?

maybe it's a sign. :D
seriously i missed the point when it would have been wise to do so and know
i'd have to pay out of my nose.
anyway some softwares in the package haven't been
updated and are not supported anymore at all on Intel Macs.

and anyway upgrades don't spare you the compatibility blues when switching
systems!
as i was just checking how much the upgrade to Komplete 5 would be now i saw
this:

sounds like fun

my work around currently is setting these values with an automation
line. Properly zoomed in you can get pretty accurate and
i assume if you wanted to open the automation event list you could
put the exact values in.

Logic TDM users are the kings of workarounds :)
Btw the bug doesn't affect all TDM plugs. You can still type values with
Waves and Soundtoys (Echoboy).
Martin

I can't type values into the Digi "Extra Long Delay" - any
workarounds? The slider has large incremental grids

Anyone ever seen an error message about a "wrong" or
"incorrect"
Magic ID?
This from a PT session uploaded with attendant audio files - created
in 7.4 but I'm opening in 7.3 (if that makes a difference)
could it be corrupt due to upload/download? anything else?
Thanks
Greg

Just switched to Logic 8 recently, doing first big project in it today.
Every time I move/cut/edit a region (audio or MIDI) my core audio engine
reloads all its
plugins. I only notice it with Kontakt and Vienna though as it actually
happens very fast.
Running:
Dual 2.7 G5
Logic 8.02
2408 mk iii
Vienna Ensemble 3 server (using separate PC)
PT HD2 7.4.1
Kontakt 2
Any ideas? I'm running a couple demo Vienna instruments that will quickly
lose their status
(you only get a certain number of starts) if this keeps up. I've restarted
and the same thing.
It started happening as soon as I started recording audio on DAE tracks.
thanks for any
insight.
