I concur. I bailed on DTDM years ago and got a dedicate Core Audio
interface to feed into Pro Tools. I have no regrets whatsoever.
These days PT and Logic are on completely separate machines, and I've
been using Logic or Cubase for mixing more and more.

Hi Bob (and forum)
Would love your (and anyone's) input on what core audio device seems to
work well (sound quality, cost effective, I/O options) and what your
hookups are. I have PT HD2 with a 192 and an 888/24 hooked up to the
legacy Port (although that will likely change as I drop live drums in
favor of BFD! - I'm buying a condo)
How do people usually feed the core audio back into Logic/TDM?
This decision would end my need for the DTDM compatibility that seems
so hard to come by ( I have it but I'm stuck at 10.3.9, Logic &, and PT
6.9) and would pave the way for me to upgrade to Tiger, a G5 (from a
g4) and move to Logic 8 with PT 4 - THEN my computer would be faster
than me again!
I would greatly appreciate any comments about working setups with core
audio piped back into a 192, including specific hookup info and success
stories. For example, would my entire Virtual Inst library (now on
DTDM) work using core audio? Does a core audio interface hookup using a
card slot?
Thanks for all info

And I went even farther and dropped Digi altogether. Now I'm absolutely
happy with my Logic-Apogee combo - great sound, rock solid (not a single
crash in weeks), great performance... No regrets either.

I appreciate that that works for you, but I do need PT for alot of
things. So i'll ask-what do people like for a Core Audio interface? I
need 8-16 dig out into PT only-no mic pre, no analog. Does such a
thing exist?

Hi Evan
I'm running on Leopard, using LP 8 on a G5 DP 2ghz with 4.5 gigs of
RAM, running LP in DAE and CA mode. I have a digi Digital HD192
connected via ADAT into a MOTU Traveller. I've also used an Apogee
Ensemble as the CA i/o, and a Yamaha's mLan (i88x/01x). Everything
runs fine (except mLan right now that isn't supported on Leopard).
I've also had success with LP 8 running in DAE and DTDM (not using CA
in this mode though).
Happy New Years,
Craig

I'm using a Tascam DM-24, with an IFFW-DM card.
I have a 96 I/O, so there's only 8 digital channels I can bus digitally.
Any firewire device that works well with Core Audio can be used to bus back
into protools
with either ADAT or TDIF...
I find I am working more and more in Core Audio only. Most of my favorite
plug-ins are
Core Audio compatible (and screw the ones that that made the bad business
decision not
to support it), and I repeat, Logic with Core Audio sounds better AND now
does ****loads
more than Pro Tools. (Love the comping!!!)
I mostly use PT for sending tracks back & forth between studio's since
it's great for post.
But Digidesign remains EONS behind almost any other DAW for creating music.

Thats true, but I need PT because I do alot of film sound design,
which really has to get done in PT for many reasons. When I compose,
though, I like Logic. I used DTDM successfully up until recently,
when something broke, I think as a result of L8 being incompatible
with my TDM rig. Logic quits on me as soon as the "Initializing
DTDM"
message comes up.
Anyway, I can't use Core Audio unless I buy a Core Audio interface.
And I may do that, but I'm frustrated that this doesn't work, because
it's advertised as working, and that means it should work...
naive, I know...

Hello there
I have an issue with TDM/Logic 8.
I can't seem to be able to change/delete the record path. The option can't
be found anywhere (L7= audio configuration/edit/remove record path).
Plus the fact that like some of you I can't seem to set any channels above
33 on record. It's always asking me to set a record path (wich I do) and it
loops on this routine forever. Setting my record tracks below 33 works, but
still drops the audio in the same old folder again.
How can I remove the record path in logic 8 and set a new one for sure ?
Should it be that I worked on the same songs but from another external drive
?
Thank you very much.

It's exactly where it should have been for the past 13 years.
In previous versions of Logic, it was in a way less obvious
place (but once you found it, you found it). Users new to
Logic8 have no trouble finding it, but old users are used to
the illogical old place. I couldn't find it at first, but once I
did, I thought "duh, that's so obvious".

Hi there,
I've just upgraded to logic 8 and having a couple of issues with groups. I
have grouped 5 tracks of multiple drum takes on DAE channels with region
selection enabled for comping, but when I select regions in tracks 1 and 2,
nothing happens (as if the were not edit grouped) if I select regions in
tracks 3,4 5, it works fine (except nothing happens to tracks 1 and 2).
So its as if channels 1,2 arent grouped and 3,4, 5 are... although all of
them are grouped to 1:drums
My first reaction to this was reset the group by un/regrouping, but when I
selected a new group in the environment... channel strips for tracks 3 and 5
simply disappeared!!! This keeps happening.
is this a song error, a bug, or a very messed up logic 8?? I dont know what
to do!! Everything else seems to be working fine.
If anyone could shed some light on this, that would be great! Thanks in
advance.

Anyone get this working with similar config?
Thanks
What resolution are you running at? My g4 dual/logic 7/PT Mix?panther

the

There are times where we're trying to cut audio files (take folders)

I suggest you unpack the takes folder before cutting if you're having
problems with it. It's a PIA but you can get everything out of the
folder. I've seen others flatten the performance immediately after
they track it too.
Try unpacking the takes folder before editing. and use a new track
for assembling comps. If there are a lot of edits, you could repack
them into a traditional folder, which is what I do for drums, and
vocals typically anyway.
You can upack the takes folder by clicking on the take menu... Then
select all the regions, go to the region menu: folder: Pack Folder.
You may not need to do this, but I find it helpful to get 12 takes
out of the main arrangement window.

Yeah, I've been starting to do that. Kind of a bummer. Now I have to
go through on more step than I used to. I'm having problems with take
folders on my Macbook as well:-( The concept is great, but there's a
lot of flaws. I hate not being able to delete takes from the take
folder or move/nudge certain takes around.. If it was working I could
deal tho..
