A Logic Pro 8 and ProTools 7.3.1 combo on INTEL will support DAE only, no DTDM or EXS24TDM. A Logic Pro 7 and ProTools HD 7.4 combo will not support DAE and/or DTDM on INTEL at all. Subject: [L-TDM] OS X Midi services not available
Message #25452
I've been getting this message intermittently since upgrading to Logic 8. I've trawled the net and all the sollutions I've seen are related to removing midi drivers...I don't have any installed and I'm still getting this message. The only work around I've found is to quit Logic and then reload and eventually it'll start working again. I'm not sure if I would get the message if I was running without TDM as all my sessions are with TDM running and as it's intermittent it's not like I can quickly test it. Anybody able to help with this ?? The message is sometime preceded by a message that warns of a possible conflict of third party midi or audio drivers....I've looked in what i think is all the obvious places but can't find anything obvious. Heeelp !!!!

So DAE from PT 7.3 and Logic 7 on intel Mac will work (but not with DTDM) is this right? Is a "retrograde" to the DAE from PT7.3 easy to do or complicated? Message #25455
Hi All Logic 7.1.1/PT 6.9, HD 2, G4 Dual 1.25, LaCie drives, Rockstor drives For some reason, after loading 100's (maybe thousands) of new loops purchased from Sounds Online, the browser: 1. Isn't seeing the library titles (in the loop browser) in the same layout as my sounds drive, which is organized by title and then by whatever arrangement/order was originally on the Loop CD - for example I have big fish audio Technomatic and Trance inducer - I don't see those "titles" anywhere in the loop browser in the drop down window that shows the loop libraries available 2. won't play some of the loops unless I drag them into the arrange page. FYI - my apple loops are on a separate HD and I have dragged the entire Apple Loops folder from that drive onto the browser Thanks! Greg

Subject: LOGIC 8 -DTDM/DAE Problem. I am not even sure someone has succesfully done it.
Message #25458
Hi everybody, I am a new member to the group. I recently upgraded my G4 to a intel mac. Installed logic 8, pro tools, upgraded to 7.4.x (whatever the last one is) and pro tools runs great, logic starts, selected DAE, selected DTDM, reboot. So far so good. Now I created 2 aux tracks to route the ESB1-2 to DAE mixer. done. create an instrument track on direct dtdm. insert es-2 and play the keyboard... and the only thing i get is a very loud feedback sound, kind of like a digital noise that builds up until i release the keyboard. no matter what pluggin I insert... same problem. I am not even sure that anyone has this setup working. If anyone can suggest what to do... that'd be great. Happy Holidays everyone.

Subject: automation on stereo DAE trks
Message #25461
Hello! Im on OSX 10.4.10 - Tools 7.3.1 cs5 - Logic 8.0.1 I know 7.3.1 is not technically supported - but it works fine here without DTDM and EXS on DAE trks. I am using a FF800 adat into a 192 to do native stuff and its pretty cool :) Anyway - I have an odd thing where if I change the mode of a stereo linked DAE track, i get duplicate trks created underneath the one Im working on. This happens if I go to Write, Read, Latch, whatever. It doesnt happen on mono DAE tracks though. Any ideas? thanks in advance Matt

well, after much much pain. I figured it out. The only way this combination works is if you downgrade to MAC OS 10.4.9, either install a previous version and use the combo updater, or if you have 10.4.9 installer, use it and then use the combo updater (always use the latest combo updater for 10.4.9) Logic Pro 8 works using TDM and DTDM if you have 10.4.9, Protools 7.3.1 cs5, and Quicktime 7.3.x To anyone who thinks that you need coreaudio 7.4 to make this happen, this is not correct. PT 7.4 is not compatible with Logic TDM yet, i repeat, 7.4 does not work! Another important point, is that as soon as you install 7.3.1 cs5, and quick time 7.3, pro tools will stop working. You will get the icon bouncing for a couple of seconds and then die. You need to go to the digidesign website and download the prebinding fix script that corrects this problem. Always install protools first, test it, and then proceed to install logic. If pro tools does not work, repair permissions, delete all pt prefernces and delete digidesign databases. reboot. if this does not help, perform a clean uninstall of pro tools, re-install and run prebinding script. once pt is up and running, install logic. Good Luck. magia100

Message #25464
I have everything working but it seems like my intel mac needs to warm up or something cause I get alot of tdm overload messages in the beginning of every session.....anyone knows why? I have hd3 so I shouldn´t get any cpu spikes at all when having 3 dsp-cards running? Maybe it just is a matter of setting the preferences correct, any clue? When I bounce and for instance send the file to a drummer for additional drumtracks it does not synq to the given tempo if using another system, what´s that all about? Latency after bouncing seems weird, doesn´t it? When I record audio I can only record enable in dae and not in dtdm, why is that?...or why not core? And if I place the file on a dtdm track after recording it doesn´t synq!!! Has this something to do with protools latency compansation that affects logic somehow? One last thing: I heard that you need to have a dedicated disc for dae and one for dtdm and one for Logic.. How do I do that???

There's nothing in a computer that really needs to "warm up" per se. One thing that might change performance as it warms up, however, is a hard drive that's beginning to fail. Keep an eye on your drives and back up often. You might have one that's heading for failure. > When I bounce and for instance send the file to a drummer for > additional > drumtracks it does not synq to the given tempo if using another > system, > what´s that all about? Are you using any plug-ins with significant latency, especially on a master bus? If so, you might be experiencing significant delay from that. > Latency after bouncing seems weird, doesn´t it? > When I record audio I can only record enable in dae and not in > dtdm, why is > that?...or why not core? You wouldn't usually be using Core Audio if you're using Logic as a front end for TDM. Do you have a native interface hooked to this system? You'd need that if you wanted to record audio into a native track. The native side of Logic cannot access your Digidesign interface. > And if I place the file on a dtdm track after recording it doesn´t > synq!!! > Has this something to do with protools latency compansation that > affects > logic somehow? > One last thing: > I heard that you need to have a dedicated disc for dae and one for > dtdm and > one for Logic.. Subject: [L-TDM] wanting to know the DEFINITIVE working LOGIC/TDM/ESB system
Message #25467
I know this is a tough one - but I would like to find out the hardware/software configuration with which Logic 8, PT 7 and ESB all get along and work well together without crashes. Is this a type of Logic TDM Nirvana that doesn't exist? If your system works, please tell me what you have - computer model, card type, exact PT and Logic versions and releases, OS version and anything else you might add. I have licenses for PT 7 and Logic 8 but I'm working on PT6.9, Logic 7.1.1 and OS 10.3.9 on a g4 dual 1.25 until I trust things - although my system is running slow. Thanks Greg

Subject: [L-TDM] Logic 8 with DTDM is crashing on startup
Message #25468
I am having a very difficult time with recurrent crashes on my TDM setup. I have been using Logic 7 with DTDM with no problems. After upgrading to 8, I had a day of the same. Then I upgraded to 8.0.1. At that point, starting up the app gets a "quit unexpectedly" message right when the screen gets to the DTDM message. I can boot up without audio drivers just fine, and I can boot up with TDM on, just fine. Just not DTDM. Here is what I have done: 1) I have confirmed the crash happens on a test account, in the same way. 2) I have checked the startup drive with Disk warrior. Only minor problems found. 3) Reinstalled 8.0.0 from DVD, after trashing all receipts. 4) Reinstalled DTDM driver separately. This got Logic to boot up with TDM and DTDM enabled...ONCE. I could not replicate this. On the next bootup I got "quit unexpectedly" again. 5) Trashed any preference I could think of with even a peripheral connection to the issue. But again, since the test account crashes as well, that rules out my account. I have called Apple support twice. They were really of no help. Does anyone have any thoughts? I have spent the entire day with this, and am really out of ideas. And one last thought...PT 7.4 boots up just fine and works just fine, so I assume I'm not having a hardware issue. -Evan Benjamin

PT 7.3.x,not sure of the latest, and cs rev, should be ok with LP 8.01 on G5.It's working for me,and others.Just a thought, but could a plugin be causing this issue?Try moving the TDM plugs to a safe folder, say "unused Plugs" temporarily, and try launching again.Actually, also make sure that your plugs(especially any rewire stuff) are compatible with pt7.4 while you're at it.It could be an issue with using a G5 quad instead of a dual processor, just stabbing at thin air here....check for a PT cs fix in any case.If you do happen to try re-intalling apps-I suggest installing pt first, and making sure it's up and running, than intalling LP 7 or 8.If you still have lp7 on your system,it should work even if you install LP8 so maybe install lp7 first, than check it,than install lp8 second.Sorry, sounds like alot of time in.

Logic 7 works fine, and Logic 8 will startup in Core + TDM. It's only DTDM thats broken. I may just stick with 7 for awhile, although I have some downtime now, would be the perfect time to sort this out. I read some post on the LUG that says 10.4.9 is it for this combo, and I'm contemplating downgrading the OS, although I know its a PITA... I am having similiar issues. I was told by Apple to upgrade PT to 7.4, and that did not fix anything. I will downgrade to 10.4.9 and see if that helps. A terrible pain though, especially because Apple should know this stuff when I call. -Evan Benjamin

I gave up on DTDM a couple of years ago by sending a number of Core Audio channels into my digital mixer and returning them through channels of Pro Tools. Then I turned off DTDM in Logic. ALL my DAE/DTDM issues dissapeared PERMANENTLY at that time. (And I gained more Psuedo-DAE/DTDM I/O's). Lately, I have found myself preferring to use only Core Audio. I'm finding it actually sounds as good as DAE, if not smoother & better. And I'm LOVING having everything work! --- In logic-tdm@yahoogroups.com, "Evan Benjamin" <forums@...> wrote: > > Message posted by Evan Benjamin <evanbenjamin@...>: > > I am having similiar issues. Subject: [L-TDM] HD Accel Card PCIe for sale
Message #25475
Hi all, If anyone is interested I have an unopened, unused, unregistered Digidesign HD PCIe Accel card for sale. I believe the list price for this card is £2995 ex vat (see here: http://www.kmraudio.com/catalogue/product_info.php?products_id=1555). I would be willing to sell this card for £2000 inc VAT. I bought the card as part of a studio upgrade for a project that did not go ahead in the end, so I am looking for a quick sale. The card can be collected from my studio in Stratford Upon Avon, where it could be installed and tested if in my current Pro Tools rig if necessary, or it can be sent via a courier service. Best wishes, Gareth Cousins please reply to gcousins@btclick.com PS - with no reference to TDM whatsoever, I also have a Genelec 8030/7060 surround speaker system for sale, boxed, unused. price on application
