Used to, all the time. But now suddenly it's more seldom. Have no
idea why. Happens with AudioSuite occasionly too.
I'm running a native rig alongside my TDM with a KVM switch and I
gotta tell you I'm opting for native more and more. It's just...stable.
Gonna try the Metric Halo Mobile I/O today, I'll try the Time Machine
thing.

That´s a well known Logic/TDM problem, all destructive editings in the
sample-editor (not
only with timemachine) aren´t updated immediately in logic´s
playlist. Undo + Redo is the
only solution for now. Very annoying, if you have to do extensive editings.
I´ve wrote this
bug to apple 12 month before, but you know what happened ;-)

I´ve sometimes the problem, that bouncing stops after a few seconds,
then I try it again and
again and if I´m lucky then it works.
Does someone else know this strange behaviour ?
Greatings, Josef
Sometimes I have this problem: recording audio on one or more tracks seems
to work (you
can see the white recording-graphic), but after stopping, logic has recorded
f.e. only 1
second or so. I´ve lost so precious recordings, but I´m not sure
if it is a problem of logic or
of my system: Mac OS 10.4.9 (but had this problem also with 10.4.6/7/8),
Logic 7.2.3,
Protools 7.3.1cs3, HD3 Accel, G5 Quad
Greatings, Josef
Hello Josef,
This is a problem that I/many had some years ago when everybody jumped up to
OSX. Logic did exactly as you say. With me, it looked like everything was
recording but when I hit the stop but I got the dreaded -9060 error. After
hitting ok I saw that I had only recorded a second of audio and not the 4
minutes that I was listening to and watching show up on my screen. This is
the main reason why I jumped over to Pro Tools... I thought that the 9060
thing was fixed with Logic 7.1 but I guess it is still out there...
I am sorry to hear your situation. Try going on the Digidesign site and
searching the 9060 error... They might have some ideas. Maybe you should
journal or unjournal you disk drives....
Good luck,
Leif

This can be a permissions error. If Logic does not have permission
to write to the target path directory for the audio file, the
recording cannot be saved.
Try repairing permissions on your audio drive and also "get info"
on
the folder for your audio path and confirm that your user account is
the owner for the folder and you can read and write.
You can also try recording to a different drive to see if there's any
change.
If you need to set new permissions, download the free utility
"batchmod" that can be found with Google. It works very well,
better
than the OS X settings "apply to all sub-folders", but it's
powerful
and can change a lot of permissions at once, so read the instructions
carefully before using it.
Good luck.

Zero latency. Well, as close as it can be. Certainly no more than TDM. I
have Logic running
at 64. 32 and it started to hiccup with large track counts.

If this is the case, then I wonder why on earth the software can't simply
warn/advise the user? Or could it be that OSX security measures prevent such
detection routines?
Will

The answer to your question is that your solution would simply be too
simple! We need the mysterious strange behavior to keep us all
wondering what's happening, and to give us something to talk about.
The more serious answer is that permissions issues often cause
strange behavior in the OS, not just in Logic. Sometimes when
nothing else makes sense, investigating the permissions can turn up a
solution.
Speaking of funny strange behaviors... my favorite logic crazy bug is
one time I was working along on a song, everything running great,
then the screen froze and I got an error message in a dialog box.
The message said something like this: "Too many nested levels".
Then, the funny part... at the bottom of the box, where usually there
is a button that says "Continue" or "Cancel" or
something like that,
in this box the button said: "BAD." That was it, no other way
out, you had to click the button that said "BAD." So I clicked it
and Logic put me right back where I was. No crash, nothing. Now
what, do I save the song? Has it been corrupted? No way to know...
All I knew for sure, it was BAD.

Hi,
I'm looking to buy a new TDM system where I would continue to use Logic 7.2
(PPC) to record
and mix.
- Is anyone using an Apogee DA-16 instead of the 192 for mixing out of the
box? Are you
happy with it?
- Anyone using Big Ben with a 192? Thoughts?
- Some users have posted that they compose in Logic and mix in Pro Tools.
Anyone doing
both in Logic without too many problems?
(my projects usually 24-32 tracks. Dual 2.5 G5, 4 gigs ram)
A Symphony system is also on my radar, but I really miss the DAE/TDM sound.
Comments on
that comparison are welcome as well.
Thanks,
Keith
Hi,
At the Frankfurter Messe I spoke with a usually reliable contact (he
had proven to be 'in the know' on previous occasions) who told me
that the Logic 8 update, originally scheduled to be released at
Frankfurt, was postponed until the WWDC. He also told me it would be
a big one.
So I had some hope (I'm an optimist) that somewhere in Steve Job's
keynote, a new Logic release would pop up.
But no.
What is the latest info on a new Logic release? Hard to tell
obviously since Apple is very secretive about upcoming releases - but
what's the buzz? Any info?
I'm starting to think we won't see Logic updates at all until Leopard.
Best,
Ivo

Your friend is either a liar or an ass.
A liar if he really isn't "in the know" and is just spouting
baloney based on nothing.
An ass if he really is "in the know" and has broken
his non-disclosure agreement with Apple.

Yeah.
Or he could be a reasonable guy who, when asked by a music tech
magazine reporter (me), explained that he could not tell anything on
the record about Logic's development or release schedule, strictly
keeping to his NDA. Off the record however, he felt he was not
spoiling any big secrets by telling me that a release at the Messe
(which was widely expected) had indeed been planned, but had been
postponed to the WWDC.
I'm not trying to sound interesting here. I have good reason to
believe that the info was reliable at the time otherwise I wouldn't
post about it. Obviously there was no release yesterday so either the
info was wrong after all, or the release has been postponed further.
I was just wondering if anyone had any information on this.
Cheers,
Ivo

Remember when Logic 7 was released? No NAMM, No Messe, No WWDC, nothing,
just out of the blue in mid fall. I honestly liked the way they did it
without much noise when nobody watched them as closely as we do now...

I heard that in the next version of Logic, the XSKey dongle will be
replaced. Instead Logic 8 will require the use of an iPhone, and
accounts with AT&T/Cingular, eBay, PayPal and FedEX. Without those
accounts, the program will not launch. The iPhone will function as a
touch-screen control surface. If there is any TDM equipment in your
system, Logic 8 will upload to your eBay account and automatically
start, manage and complete an auction to sell the TDM equipment with
payment to you via PayPal. To continue using Logic, you will need to
photograph the removed TDM equipment using the iPhone. The
confirmation photos will be sent to Apple by email and also posted on
eBay. When the eBay Auction sale is complete, the iPhone will call
Fedex to schedule a pickup. Logic will then go into registration
mode and there will be a one-week grace period for the TDM equipment
to be delivered to the purchaser after which Logic will not function
until the sale is confirmed. When Fedex confirms delivery by
emailing Logic, Logic will email PayPal to send the proceeds from the
auction to Apple, to be applied to your Applecare Pro Support
package, allowing you to call Applecare techs in India for up to 90
days for a maximum of 3 separate support issues. As a premium pro
Support member your tech support issue may be escalated to someone
who knows what Logic is and how to use it. When you reach that
person, they will tell you that Apple does not release information
about future upgrades and that since you are already using the new
version, you must be making the whole thing up.

I heard that too, and it's definitely true. It was told to me by the
nurse who was in the emergency room with Richard Gere a few years ago
(actually it was more than a few).
He's back in the hospital, by the way. This time he's having a mole
removed.

Dave and Nick,
You guys forgot to mention Apple will require that you buy a 96 in/96 out
Symphony rig to be eligible for the upgrade. That's after you sell your TDM
setup for pocket change on eBay.
Best,
Andy
If no one is using this combo, guess I'll upgrade my Alti 5 and give
it a shot.
