Subject: [L-TDM] Re: Working Logic 8/PT system with DTDM/ESB
Message #25568
This is a reply to #25567.
I totally agree with Tiger on this.Logic 7.2.3 on PT 7.3.x on my G5 is a rig I can work with.Logic 8.0.1 on the same rig, well, just plain feels like a giant workflow step back.I especially hate clicking out of a folder brings you back to the seq start, rather than the window keeping the song pointer in view as in 7.Lots of great new features in 8,but hate not being able to really define my window layout like before. sounds different too, which I confess I like better, but for serious scoring,I may have to move on.I don't usually write songs,so maybe the songwriters here like the new version better. Really hate the media management bug/hiccup.Workflow killer.Hate not being able to select multiple regions in the arrange/edit list and move them by double clicking on the first one and entering a time.Used to use this all the time to import omf's.Easy way to grab and move all regions in one go-assuming you know the start time of the first region.Gone now.No more import markers from a midi file created in Pro tools.Usefull for meetings with the director or to grab markers created by another user-say sfx editor. The automatic track management option does not respond to the off setting if the song opened with it on.Really hate the way midi tracks look now with the notes being replaced by note lines, which don't show up unless you zoom in to a ridiculously detailed zoom.Display bugs there too.Hate not being able to have the option of double clicking a sequence opens the piano roll as a seperate window as before. Overall, logic 7 worked for me,bugs et all.Logic 8 has let me down in a big way.Lost a show episode because the session got corrupt.(just closed it after a save, opened another session, and boom,it was forever after bad)Had to re create it by turing off the audio drivers and manually copy/pasting signature/tempos,midi and audio one group at a time into a virgin project to be able to recover. This is a fix I've used in the past, but it really makes me wonder about this new version......Sorry for the rant, but no one at Apple seems to want to pay attention.I'm slow to move,,but DP becons move everyday now.Workflow and setup and stability matter more to me than anything else. My humble two cents David Burns ps-I've got a Mac pro 8 core at home I'm futzing with, and it seems less sluggish, but I've lost confidence enough with LP8 that it won't get close to work that matters to me at the moment.I'm also not clear on the compatibility between Intel sessions and PPC sessions.... --- In logic-tdm@yahoogroups.com, Greg Critchley <greg@...> wrote: > > Thanks Tiger > > Isn't it interesting - 2 opposing posts in one day - one person has 2 > working systems and one has a system with serious bugs and ongoing > frustration. > > I would love to figure out what makes the difference...maybe PCI vs. > PCIx, or the model of G5, or more likely, the combination of software > versions (PT/LOGIC and OS).
