An identical problem happens with ProTools. It's actually
a flaw in the DAE.
The DAE can't remember exactly where DSP was loaded
into (on which cards, and on which chips). So when you
recall a session, it reloads everything in a different order than
you created the session in the first place (maybe alphabetical?
maybe by track number?), and attempts to fill up the DSP
cards starting from card #1, chip #1.
An since not all chips or cards are necessarily identical, it's
possible to run out of DSP prematurely.
A good example of this is when the DAE instanciates a plugin
in a chip that is overkill for it (when it would work perfectly
fine in a "lesser" chip). This could then prevent a more
DSP-intensive
plugin from ocuppying this chip, and other empty chips wouldn't
work.
In other words, certain plugins require certain chips. Some plugins
work on every chip.
