Hey Wim
I can¹t speak for the 192 questions as I am a hpold out mix TDM user
but to
connect the 828 mkII you need to both connect the firewire and lightpipe
connections. And lightpipe connections both ways will allow you to bus TDM
instruments to native tracks (eg spacedesigner). When you hook up the 828
via lightpipe set the clock source on the motu firewire console to adat
optical so it will clock off your 192 (or whatever you 192 is synched to).
Using Coreaudio with TDM/HD is better sounding and most importantly more
stable. The 828 mkII as well as the rme fireface have onboard mixing
capabilities so I use it to also submix hardware synths and samplers on my
system. Be aware that if you are not already a protools or logic owner
there may be some version tracking required to get compatible programs and
no TDM support for intel MACs as of yet.
I'm thinking of stopping with the combination DAE+DTDM and switch to
DAE+Core audio+Motu 828 MKII.
My questions:
- Does core audio with 828 MKII sounds better than DTDM with 192?
- Is DAE+Core audio more stable than DAE+DTDM?
- Is it sufficient that I install the Motu Core Audio driver and
connect the 828 MKII with firewire to my mac?
- What about clock with the combination 828MKII , 192, 2x96i, 1x96?
I heard about connecting the 192 and the 828MKII with lightpipe.
My questions:
- How do I have to do make this connection? One way lightpipe?
- Do I keep with a lightpipe-connection at my 192 all analog 8 in-and
16 outputs for DAE?
- Do I have to change settings in the hardware setup settings of my 192?
- Can I use lightpipe at 96khz?
- What are the advantages of a lightpipe-connection in stead of
connecting the 828MKII just with firewire?
Any help is appreciated!
Wim
