Subject: [L-TDM] protools rtas performance vs. coreaudio
Message #24851
- ok, so I gave ProTools 7.3 a serious chance thinking the latest features would make it possbile for me not to feel too restricted and bored with working entirely in PT. I Use NI Akustik Piano, BFD drums (andy johns expansion pack is the bomb), Spectrasonics etc etc a lot...rarely more than stereo recording on top of that. But I have to say I think the RTAS performance on my system (dual 2.5 G5, 4bg, HD3) sucks A LOT compared to what Logic gives me with ESB (which is annoying too I have to say). Do any of you who have switched to PT found that RTAS is just not very effecient on CPU as well ? I hate when the playback takes a couple of seconds to start and that moving a loop makes the audio stop. There are many great things in ProTools but I cannot sit and wait 4 minutes for it to bounce an RTAS instrument in realtime every time I'm out of CPU power and then thing makes clicks and pops....grrrrr !!! Logic TDM is still better for me...I'd pay serious money for a Logic that is rewire slave compatible with ProTools... Thanks to everyone for keeping this list alive.... Peter
