Subject: [L-TDM] update - Logic TDM on an INTEL MAC
Message #24828
This is a reply to #24746.
I have some news on this situation. It's not exciting news, but it's not a total bummer either... My partner spoke with Digidesign tech support yesterday and asked them what's going on with DAE/TDM/HD compatibility for Logic on the Mac Pro. The rep researched the situation for a while and then told us what he found out. He said Digi and Apple are actively working together on solving the issue, that they were caught by surprise by the difficulties involved in making it work but that there's no doubt it will be fixed. He did not offer a timeline but he said it is a priority for them and is not being put on the back burner. This is pretty much the same thing Apple's Pro App development group told me six weeks ago, though I have to say with Digi it took 10 minutes to get the info unlike with Apple where it took weeks of phone calls and investigation to find someone who would give me the info. So, that's where it stands - both Digi and Apple say they are working on it and it will be fixed as soon as possible. Digi says they don't know how long it will take. Apple says they "do not discuss release dates of future updates." We've decided at our studio that we are going to experiment in the meantime by doing a project in Logic native with the HD in CoreAudio mode just as an interface, and we're also going to do a project in Pro Tools 7.3 software, so we can compare the experiences. Maybe by then the compatibility update will be released. If not, we'll have more info about which alternate method we like better. The new PT 7.3 software looks pretty good, and I would be happy to finally have access to RTAS that Logic will never use. One thing I would really miss in giving up Logic is the score editor. It's great to be able to see the music while overdubbing, and very musical for composing counterpoint and harmonies. One thing I would not miss in giving up Logic is the absolutely un- appreciative and disrespectful way Apple treats its customers, especially we professionals who depend on their products for our work. Of course, what I really want is for Logic to work with TDM again. Once that's fixed, then we can get back to complaining about ESB only working in one direction and not being able to hide half of the stereo pair on DAE tracks on the arrange page! - Dave David Gordon Composer/Producer Sequoia Records http://www.davidgordon.com http://www.sequoiarecords.com
