If you have any suggestions for a good headphone, I would appreciate it. My
price range is about $220 to $150.
They will be used for general monitoring and playing. Not mixing.
Thanks

You may want to consider the Grado SR80 at around $100. Fantastic
clarity and breadth for the money and actually more comfortable than
they look and nice long straight cord. Just so long as you don't mind
looking like a WWII radio operator.... (personally I like the retro
look.)

I will be installing leopard on a new MacPro and will need to use my
stealth serial port to address my midi time piece.
Does anyone know if the stealth driver for Tiger will work on Leopard.
The GeeThree (serial) site doesn't have a Leopard driver on it's web
page.
Thanks in advance

one of the problems when recording music on separate tracks is often the
attention given to each track and not to the music as a whole

would be suprised how awful the BD often sounds on international
publications, when you listen to it alone, but in the unity and the mix it
is just how it should be. Don't take these tips as a bible ;-) Try what you
can reach with different Mic's, positions, damping material, compressor
& EQ settings etc.
I have to agree with this 100% and when playing around and experimenting
alway listen to the music as a whole and not just separate track, and also,
try and listen to the music on different players, because not all music
players will give you the same sound that you get in a studio. obviously.

After putting it off for much too long, I finally broke down and got a
MAC....anyway....
Is there anything I should should know before it arrives and I unpack it,
and install Logic? This machine will probably only be used for
Logic (and Fusion for Windows).
Anything I should know to get the optimum Logic experiance?
Thanks

Hello, all -
I know full well the stunned silence and subsequent gnashing of teeth
that usually follows any mention of the word "equalization" among
audiophiles. The argument that one's hearing can compensate for the
deficiencies of one's listening environment always struck me as rather
un-audiophilic. After all, if one can adjust to a sorry listening
environment without any detriment to the aesthetic experience, one
should also be able to adjust equally well to a pathetic sound system.
That, it seems, would rather defeat the sacred quest of the
audiophile: Perfect Sound Reproduction.
At any rate, preambles aside, would anyone care to recommend an
equalizer to balance a given listening room? This would be for a
stereo system, in this case, mostly Acoustat components, including
electrostatic loudspeakers. I understand that there have been very
positive steps in equalizer evolution, including vast improvements in
linearity and phase issues.
Any advice is welcome...
Cheers,
Zenon Marko

What about one of the High-tech mastering equalizers? If the makers
of the best recordings use them, they should get respect from the
"teeth gnashing" audiophile listeners which are most likely
dentists
themselves ;-)
You can sell the idea as "Re-enginieering the sound after the losses
of DVD production by using the very same gear that was used before
the valuable intersamples reached the media."
I would exchange the knobs of the boxes of course. Elliptical knobs
made of rare exotic wood will increase the acceptance.
But sarcasm aside, based on the assumption that more Golden Ears are
mounted on the heads of mastering engineers than on the heads of
Audiophiles I can imagine that an outstanding mastering EQ is able to
fulfill the requirements.

I recently installed a Samsung 320GB drive into my Macbook Pro and it works
well for me. However, I would like to get more RAM, which means selling my
Core Duo machine and getting one of the Core 2 Duo machines that can utilize
4GB.
I want to put my current drive into the new machine. If all the hardware is
good, and I do the work correctly, can someone advise me about whether my
plugs (such as Miroslav Phil, Ivory, BFD2, etc.) will work as normal?
I love the Eq's and comps that come with Logic but I want to buy some more
plug ins and I find that for some projects (mostly voice overs) a USB mic
would be very handy...
I came across this special from Waves -

Has anyone heard this mic?

Dear Peter,
Thank you for the reply - Good points. I suppose one must pay a
fortune for those EQs also...
Of course, all music is mixed and mastered for iPods these days...

I use a Behringher EQ that I fitted with Bubinga wood slider tabs - a
very nice improvement for the money. The ipod mixdown is much more
organic sounding now with a much tighter grain.

I don't think that this works well. Bubinga is a bit lame in the
heights. At least for the treble knob you should use Spruce or similar.

The first two are self explanatory: Does anybody know of a site where I can
download pro user presets for Waves NPP, Logic Space Designer, or Waves IR1?
More importantly, does anybody have any comment on Summing Mixers?
I am finding that my mixes lack the punch and clarity I used to get with my
Akai DR16 system and prior.
One suggestion is that using a 16 channel Summing Mixer should provide that.
Anybody else using one?
Appreciate any advise.

Hi All, this is my first post. just wanted to query the group about creating
REX files,
i've been using Recycle, but so far, when i use it, it changes the sounds of
the transients. It's
not transparent at all. It changes the sound so much that I've stopped using
it at this point.
I was wondering what other user's experience with this may and if there is
something out
there that is better, or maybe there's something i'm doing wrong with
Recycle.
and similarly, when i buy a commercially sold sample library of Rex files, i
can't help
wondering how these REX files were made, ....did they use Recycle?
thanks all

Its time to start looking at mastering my work, and I have heard various
theories about having it ptofessionally done & doing it yourself.
If you were going to use software, which would you use? I use a Mac but
could use a PC as well.
Thanks

I would recommend Izotope Ozonic - some components of T-Racks aren't
bad, and Logic does have some good built-in stuff (Linear Phase EQ
and Multiband Compressor). However, none of these are a substitute
for a good mix. As a professional mastering engineer I'm finding that
way too many people are not taking their time to either mix properly
or hire someone to mix. They just mix half-way then slap on a bunch
of plug-ins and say it's "mastered". *HINT* - mastering has
nothing
to do with which plug-ins or piece of equipment you use. The tracks
that come by me and require very little (if any) "mastering" all
tend
to be from very experienced mix engineers working in great rooms.
Also, although I'm asked to on many occasions, I try not to master
tracks that I mix.
