RAID on external backup drives? Isn't worth the hassles AFAIU... And why
would you need partitions? Just install OS and use separate folders for
backup sets... Just MMHO...

I've been using 4 internal drives in both my G4 and my brand new Mac Pro and
never seen any issues, maybe because Mac gives a drive some 5 or 6 seconds
to spin up before it starts another one... Thanks for the headsup anyway.

Yep - staggered startup for drives is the obvious fix for this issue but
not all machines do it.
Thanks for this response.
I opened up the Macbook and found a Hitachi drive inside (5400) so I ended
up buying a 250Gig Hitachi drive as in the end I was able to get it quite
quickly.
Thanks again though.

Hi new user here. i like to use the shift-command-T shortcut to move
regions precisely from track to track. i've been doing it for a month just
fine until recently i've noticed that when i move a region it overwrites and
deletes the underlying region. it hasn't been doing this before and i think
i must have inadvertently reset some preference. i tried the options in the
"Drag" drop down but nothing has fixed this so far. i also tried
to search
the manual and the forums to no avail
thanks for any help
cheers

Careful of the larger capacity drives. In particular, sizes larger than
500G as they tend to be noisy, which is obviously not good for audio mixing
and recording. Also, don't rely on the noise specs as they taken when the
disc is in the non-access/idle mode and not when the disc is in active
read/write, which is the noisiest mode. A Network Attach Storage (NAS) is
ideal as you can locate your switch and drive in a separate room than you
are working in. They also make Wireless NAS drives in case your switch is
located next to your workstation, you can put the drive anywhere within
wireless reach.
I hope this helps.
Enjoy and Happy Tracking,

Am trying to find a clear, definitive, and up-to-date “Best Practices” guide
on how to move as much audio media as possible (both Samples AND Loops) onto
external drives -- especially for systems running BOTH Logic 8 AND
GarageBand ’08.
Threads abound, but most seem to have only partial or not completely current
info. Need a comprehensive reference (ideally a pdf I can print out) with
ALL the do’s and don’ts, shoulds and shouldn’ts, in simple but exhaustive
step-by-step detail. For example...
Exactly how many Loops should get installed by each app (and each JamPack),
and in which folders? Exactly how many audio files should be in each Samples
sub-folder? How much overlap is there between audio content installed by GB
vs. LS (and Soundtrack Pro and even iLife too)? What is the exact file path
for all of their default install locations? When moving content onto
external drives, which apps prefer Aliases, and which work better with
Symbolic Linking? Which specific folders and files should NEVER be moved?
How to avoid any duplication -- and how to eliminate same when you find it?
Which 3rd party apps -- EXS Manager, for instance -- make the job easier?
...that kind of thing.
The whole eight bars, as it were. Does such a guide exist, or am I dreaming
in stereo?

I have a sample library folder with drums in it. I have folders for
each drum instrument eg bassdrums, hihats etc.
I want to print out the contents of a finder window which shows all the
folders within my drums folder.
Perhaps a simpler way to word this would be 'how do I print out a
finder windows contents?'
Thanks,
Roman.

Hi Roman,
The app you want is called 'Grab' and can be found in
applications>utilities. It lets you get a
complete screenshot, a selected area of the screen or a windows contents.

I found that eature but from what I read it only captures the visible
screenshot. I have a folder that contains enough folders that it is
longer than a single screen shot. I want to be able to print out the
whole folder without having to accurately split it up into screen
shots, ideally. But maybe grab will do, with that extra bit of effort.
Any other ways to print out a whole folder window listing it's contents
that is more than what is visible?
Roman.

You can drop a folder into a BBedit window, and it will create a text
list of files (including sub folders). Otherwise, there are
AppleScripts out there that might be suitable.
Dear friends colleagues,
Thank you for your tremendous support in watching the show last week.
You truly made a difference!
Ratings showed an up tick of 200,000 viewers from last week.
We got a warm letter from the producer who confirmed that Project Grand Slam
indeed made
a difference and that the
difference is all a result of your support and digging having live music on
the show.
Let's make a difference again for tonight's episode!
The show gets better and I hear through the grapevine that if it does
continue there'll be a lot
more music action weaved into the plot.
Thank you so much for your warm responses and love of music.
Best --- Haim

Thank you Dave!
The support we got was tremendous.
The overnight Nielsen ratings for our Lipstick Jungle episode showed an
uptick from the
prior week. This past Thursday there were 6.0mm viewers during the first
half hour, and
5.8mm viewers during the second half hour. This means that the band
attracted at least
200,000 viewers to the show who were no longer interested in the show once
our
appearance was over!!
Hope you enjoyed the episode in general.
The show gets better and I hear through the grapevine that if it does
continue next season
there'll be a lot more music action weaved into the plot.
Let me know what you think about tonight's episode,
and thanks again for your support and interest!

Looks like its straight outta the 80's! Difficult to navigate through topics
compared to other internet forums. Just a suggestion.
Does anyone have the WIDI XU in use and can tell me if it provides
only one MIDI port or more?
I have two pairs of CME's "WIDI X8" wireless MIDI boxes but would
need many-to-one communication. The new WIDI Xu seems to do that. But
I cannot use it if everything comes on one single port.
Thanks,

Hi guys,
Does anybody know if I can use an eSATA drive to boot the system?I'm running
Logic 7.2.3 and Mac OS 10.4.11 on a Dual G5 2.3 Power PC.I have just bought
Logic 8,and what I intend to do is install it on a different drive so I can
dive in without having to interrupt my workflow on Logic 7.I bought a
G-drive Q external drive which has all kinds of connections like USB
2.0,Firewire 800 & 400 and eSATA,and the eSATA seems to be the fastest
connection.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
