Subject: [L-OT] Cannot delete text
Message #6801
Somehow I've created text, by text cursor entry, in the header that cannot be selected by the cursor and when I try to select it logic crashes. The text is " Fr Hn 1 xp " followed by some text symbols. It appears on every instument part in page and print view. Anyone have any ideas on how I can delete this " pesky text " Thanks for any input. Jim

You mean as an aggregate device? I think they will, but you have to upgrade the OS to at least 10.4.9 in order to use them. Best, Andy

Subject: [L-OT] Are the instruments organised into categories in multi mode on the motif or fantom or triton?
Message #6808
I have a Korg TR-Rack. It's my only ROMpler sound module. It has four banks of 128 sounds. The instruments are not categorised. I find this annoying because if I want a certain type of sound, say a bass sound, I would like to audition all the basses by changing the program number and going through the basses category. Basically I want a module that has all the instruments categorised next to each other in multi mode, which is the mode I use because I sequence with MIDI. Thanks, Roman.

Subject: Apogee and Novation
Message #6810
I've been using the X-Station25 for about 2 years. Is the Apogee Duet sound quality better than the X-Station's built in interface? I was thinking about getting one, and a ReMOTE 49 SL COMPACT for the drums pads and automapping feature. I need more keys, like a few drum pads, keep forgetting button presets for different DAWs and VST/AUs, and don't like toting the X-Station around just for the audio card when I'm not playing midi. Does anyone think the Duet/ReMOTE SL COMPACT combo would be worth replacing X-Station25 in my situation. Just looking for honest advice.

Subject: Do I need my PC for scoring or not?
Message #6811
Hello I just bought a Mac Pro dual core Intel 3.00 and Rme Fireface 800 running logic 7. I also owns a PC quad 4200 AMD with Gigastudio that I was thinking of slaving up thru Adat to the new MAC. I'm planning to do orchestral scores. A few people has been telling me to get rid of the PC that I'm not really gonna need it since this new Mac is gonna have enough power run a full blow orchestra internally (with the EXS and Kontact samplers East West Platinum etc.) But I know a few big time composers like Hans Zijmmer uses several dedicated giga machines. I like the thought of selling the PC because I like having the samples internally in logic versus having to deal with the extra latency dealing with triggering the giga machine and coming back into logic. Also I could buy some other gear for the money. But if I'm losing alot of virtual players (who lives in giga) it' not gonna be worth it. Any thought or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.. Subject: OS 10.4.?? with Logic..?
Message #6813
I currently use LE 7.2.3 with OSX 10.4.9. I have been reluctant to upgrade to 10.10 or 10.11 because of some issues with 10.10/11 I have read about here and elesewhere. I have stuck with 10.4.9 with LE7, using Amplitube and Addictive Drums as plug-ins, with no issues whatsoever. I primarliy got an Intel iMac so I could start using Logic and I don't want any problems if i can avoid them. I now want to get an iTouch but that requires a minimum of 10.4.10. So, is there any risk in upgrading to 10.4.10(v1.1) or 10.4.11? Should I just forget about the iTouch, stick with 10.4.9 and not risk instability or issues developing with Logic?? I'm running an 2.66 Duo Core 20" iMac with 2G RAM. Thanks.

Subject: [L-OT] Re: [LUG] [OT]Take the New Mac Back?
Message #6814
Hey Bob, I knew for sure something was boiling at Apple (www.macrumors.com and similar stuff plus the fact Mac Pro line had not been updated in a year and a half at the time), so I went out and bought myself a 2.66 quad just a month before the new line was announced. The logic behind my purchase is: 1. the old line had been in production since june 2006, and by the time I was ready to purchase it all possible bugs should have been ironed out, 2. it gave me the power I needed (and way more than that) for the kind of work I do, 3. it can still run Tiger and I can easily start another HD/partition/whatever if I ever need to, 4. I can easily expand it just as I like as RAM and other stuff is readily available and (relatively) inexpensive compared to the new RAM. I have absolutely no regrets about purchasing mine and I'd do it again if I had a choice. Do I care about the new line and how Logic will use those new bells and whistles? Not a bit -- I'll think of it when I run out of juice and need to get a new machine, until that I stop watching them just like I did during 2 last decades of using the DAW. Just my $0.02. Message #6817
hi! ok, i've ordered my new mac pro and now i need 4 new hd's i've figured ou 2 different combinations with 2 different hd's: either 2x250gb (system&record) + 2x500gb (smaples&libraries) or all 4x500gb here are the models: 250GB = Seagate ST3250410AS data transfer read/write 104mb/s access write 10ms / read 8.5ms 500GB = Samsung HD501LJ data transfer read/write 64mb/s access write 14ms / read 7ms now i'm asking me if the 500gb samsung isn't fast enough? on one site can't have enough disc space today, but on the other site you can't ignore the speed....... and what info is more decisive and for what? the data transfer (which is much more on the seagate) for recording and system, and the access time (which i thing is not so dramatically different) for the libraries and sample for th exs f.e.? or vice versa? or entirely different? i'm very confused and uncertain, but i have to order tomorrow cause otherwise i'm sitting here with no working system..... thx alot and best regards peter p.s. has anyone experiences with the actual 24" mointors from dell, samsung,lg,iilyama?

Hi, Don't know if this answers your questions, but here's what Sascha Franck wrote on the subject back in September (the tests mentioned here were performed by a German magazine): <<In their SATA comparison, two Seagate Barracudas with 250GB capacity made it to the first two places (I actually don't even know the differences between the two, the one ranking first has the model number ST3250410AS). They seem to be truly quiet as well. Their IDE drives are ranking quite high, too. Fwiw, this test seemed to reveal that larger drives (anything larger than 250GB) wouldn't be that fast anymore, the transfer rate numbers are really going down for anything larger (the only real exception was again a Seagate Barracuda 750GB, but that one is IDE). Now, I am not sure how well all these tests relate to real world useage, I also don't know whether the results would be identical on Macs (they tested on PCs), but to me it seems that if you want truly fast drives, SATA ones with up to 250GB storage space are the way to go.>> Based on this I for one would get at least 1 250 GB drive for recording... Don't know the exact answer, but here I have a 250 GB Seagate for recording and 3 750 GB Seagate drives, 2 of which are used as a software RAID for samples/libraries and the third one serves as a bootup drive. All I can say, this is the best setup I could achieve in 1 and a half months of constantly tweaking my machine. Take a hard look at the MTBFs on the drives. Size matters less when they fail more often! We buy hundreds of drives a year in my (real) business and have started to shy away from larger drives because of failure rates. This is especially true for the 1TB RAID configurations you can get in single boxes. They are VERY sensitive to heat. Brian

One issue with running many drives is that it can overtax your power supply. At idle, a drive may only draw about 8 or 10 watts but on spinup the current drawn can be up 2.5x the rate when at operating speed. 4 drives can be a problem even with a 500 W power supply. An Antec Neopower 480 I have will not drive 4 Seagate Barracudas for example (on PC). There is a case therefore for keeping the drive count down. Two x 250 isn't necessarily a better idea than 1 x 500 or 1x 1000.
