Subject: [L-OT] Group buy suggestion: Melodyne Plugin (released 2 days ago)
Message #6652
This is a new take on the whole Melodyne approach to vocal tuning. It now comes as a separate AU/RTAS/VST plugin that runs directly in Logic Pro/ProTools/etc, without the need for the Melodyne Host to be running. I thought it would be a good group buy...

I've owned snd stil have an old Ensoniq SQ-1 PLUS keyboard and a new Korg bought last year and I still prefer the sound and feel of the Ensoniq it just doesn't have all the bells and whistle and complications of the new ones. Ensoniq is quite preferable to me in my opinion but like you said the resale value is low. I don't know why. HKC <hkc@surfpost.dk> wrote: My son wants a keyboard with a decent piano. He is 17 and a pretty good player. He is a guitar player but he wants to expand his business and at the moment he uses a Roland U20 but he's restricted to 61 keys and a very light keyboard which I think is great for some things but not for piano. I have found that Ensoniq keyboards are sold second hand for a lot less than the competition and I think that's mainly because they never really did as well commercially as critically. What I would like to ask is how good/bad are KT76 and KS32 and how old are they. I checked Harmonycentral and they love them but compared to what. --------------------------------- Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Mail beta.

I have a Roland RD600 which he would love to use but that's placed in my studio and resale on them is quite high so we're really after something similar but cheaper. 76-88 decent weighted keys, a fair selection of sounds....all in all what Ensoniq has to offer but I have to check the local service before I go in. BTW I know the Alesis QS series quite well but they are rarely for sale but I guess they could be a good bet as well.

If your going for organic natural true real life sound probably latest and greatest is best but for 80's pop, industrial and alternative style music. The old and cheap Ensoniq's are the best in my opinion. HKC <hkc@surfpost.dk> wrote: Jemery wrote: I've owned and stil have an old Ensoniq SQ-1 PLUS keyboard and a new Korg bought last year. Subject: [L-OT] Electronic music dj's and producers questionnaire for a new record label
Message #6658
This questionnaire will take about three minutes of your time and for the respondents it is possible to get the results of this questionnaire. It is being held within the dj and producers community to get information for a brand new record label that will be launched in 2007 and is based in Amsterdam. Another purpose for this questionnaire is to create a network of producers that can cooperate with making new music and for creating other cool initiatives. This record label will publish its music on vinyl and digitally on more than 250 download shops and will offer producers a fair deal for their music and provide good service on production, distribution, marketing, public relations and administration. Its purpose is to publish quality and original music with an electronic basis. The style will depend on the creativity, cooperation and contribution of the people involved. It would be great if you could send the link to the questionnaire to your dj and producer friends, this will help a lot to get good results. Here is the link to the questionnaire: http://www.studentenonderzoek.com/?qid"073&ln=eng Some more info about me: I am a dj for for about 10 years now and I am planning to get professional when I finished my study commercial economics in January. Besides this I will try to set up a label and do some more producing. I am also working on some other stuff, which I would like to do as a profession, but it will take some time. My dj styles are techno, house, acid and electro. If you are interested in one of my house sets you can listen to it here: http://www.mydjspace.net/djplayaround/ Greatings Wouter

Subject: [L-OT] QT streaming?
Message #6659
Does anyone know where I might go to learn the best way to stream video content and audio from my web page? I've been building self-promo pages for a while, but can't find info on how do do this in the most efficient way. Right now, I just post a QT video and everyone has to sit and wait for it to load before it plays — and it's never very top quality. When I visit Apple's QT site, I can click on an HD movie trailer and it's playing at 'full'-res within seconds. Probably H.264 etc. and I have all the compression tools, but I need to know about streaming servers and hosts and all that nonsense. If anyone has any ideas or links or forums, I'd be very grateful. Many thanks.

Dunno 'bout video, but I know how streaming audio files are done, so maybe video's done the same way...? Instead of a link directly to an mp3 file you link to a .m3u file, which is simply a text file with the complete link to the actual mp3 file. You can even have links to several mp3 files, each on a separate line. Realaudio works the same way, except with different file extensions. The streaming mp3's at http://www.cdbaby.com/ are done this way. HTH, Bill

Will do. Seems it's all about the hosting company/package you choose at the outset — they have to be running Mac-based Darwin Quicktime Streaming Server for 'genuine' streaming to be possible.... > > No worries, Trevor. :-) > > Hey, could you let us know what the answer is when you figure out how to > stream video? Subject: [L-OT] Is there an OS trick to repeat mouse clicks?
Message #6667
I am on a Mac G5 OSX 10.3.9. I am using reCycle to slice up break beats. I really prefer to choose my own slice points compared to the automated ones that reCycle selects. I zoom right into the waveform and have to repeatedly click the mouse to make the screen scroll to the right until I make another slice point. I wish reCycle would keep stepping to the right of the screen cause I am concerned that clicking 100s of times per drum loop multiplied by 3-500 breakbeats will give me RSI. Is there an OSX trick to make the mouse clicks repeat so I don't have to physically click repeatedly? Heres hoping, Roman Pirie.

Subject: [L-OT] Anyone here own an Akai Z8? I have a problem.
Message #6669
I have my Z8. I have only just received it and I haven't plugged it in with audio etc. I have powered it on and played around. The data entry dial doesn't work properly. If I try to change a parameter it doesn't change unless I move the dial very slowly and even then the number goes in the wrong direction as much as it goes in the right direction. So I may turn the dial ten times and still only have moved a few decimal places or one number. Has anyone else had this? Can it be fixed. I bought this sampler because my Akai CD3000XL wasn't playing samples right to the end and leaving a little bit off. No one on the akai mailing list could figure it out so I spent a few months drinking to forget my frustration and working to by a new sampler albeit an upgrade. Now I get it and the friggin dial doesn't work. Please lord why do I deserve this? How do I call Akai about this? I know other Akai Z8 owners can't be experiencing this because I already asked if there were any problems with the Z8 and people assured me no. I can get the parameter to where I want it but not without 20 times the effort than if it was working. Roman.

Hi - I have an Ensoniq KS32 (about 5 years old) and recently shopped and then bought a Yamaha P-90. I was looking not so much for many synth tricks as the best sounding piano and best FEELING piano - - I think this Yamaha is the best out there - - as a piano player - - the only 2 things better, are my Yamaha CP80 (baby-grand that is old and heavier than a truck) - - and of course a REAL piano - the Yamaha P's (there's another version with bells and tricks for synth fans) are my favorite. Also, it's VERY LIGHT - - which is great for carrying around - even with 88 nicely weighted keys (also has built in speaker you can disengage anytime). GOOD LUCK!

Subject: Noise Reduction / Restoration
Message #6671
Hi, I'm looking for info/opinions on noise reduction / restoration plug-ins and utilities for use with Logic. Previously to my switch to Mac the only noise reduction /restoration I did was on a friend's DAW running Samplitude/Waves Restoration, using both the Waves tools and Samplitude's own broadband noise removal tool (destructive). I was curious what options were around for logic. Recently I looked into Soundsoap Pro, but Bias has yet to release universal binaries. What are others using? And is it feasible to aim for such things in logic? Thanks, Petros

Subject: simple PC audio hook-up
Message #6672
I don't know much about PC hardware. I bought Spin-it Again software to record old LPs to CDs. I hooked up a turntable to a stereo receiver. I connected the receiver thru the tape/rec (RCA) ports to a PC audio-in (1/8" mini plug) port. The software says it is hearing only one channel. Only one PC speaker will play the turntable. I am pretty sure the turntable and receiver are working OK. If I reverse the RCA connections, the PC still receives only one channel. The software says I could buy a Creative Extigy external sound card. Does anyone know about the Creative Extigy? Is there anything less expensive I could get? If I bought something from Ebay, should there be software with it? Any help would be appreciated.

Subject: Can Anyone Recommend a Hub?
Message #6673
Hi, Really excited to finally be a Logic (express) user. Just bought an Imac with enough processing power and RAM to do the job. I was formerly a PC user. Glad I dumped that platform so I could really do music the right way. Anyhow, I've got more USB devices than I have ports (audio interface, midi controller, usb microphone, 2 usb hard drives) Any suggestions on what hub to buy. I'm assuming powered right? So I can plug all this stuff in? I'll have lots more questions once everything is up and running. Thought I'd start with this one. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Frank
