Subject: [L-OT] Why won't OSX10.3.9 let me rename certain files?
Message #6551
I'm sure this is something to do with 'permissions' etc. I am not an expert on this new OSX feature and I want to rename some audio files but the OS won't let me. I opened the 'get info' box and changed all three boxes from 'read only' to 'read and write' but it's still not letting me. Where do I learn about this stuff? An OSX book? Can someone help me get this happening? Cheers. Roman.

If you have a folder that won't let you write it also includes folders inside it even if you give them permissions.

Subject: [L-OT] Professional Studios still viable?
Message #6556
Hi everyone, Sorry this is very off topic but I need some information and I know that a fair few of you guys and girls on here will be able to help me. I have recently finished University and would like to start up a digital media facility offering a wide range of services. One of the services I would like to include is music production and to set up a cutting edge digital recording studio with post production facilities. The problem is that I often hear a lot of talk about how many tradtitional studio owners are closing their doors in reaction to the decreasing price of equipment and the increase of self-produced recordings done at home etc... So to those of you who own, or work in profssional studios, what are your thoughts on this? Are you still very busy? Have you seen a reduction in the number of clients? Do you think it would be wise to try for something like this? Just so you know, I am based in the UK. I'm just trying to get a general overview of the situation. Your advice would be very much appreciated. Please feel free to contact me at henry.bourne@gmail.com if you'd prefer to not go public. Thanks in advance, Henry

Message #6557
Hello, I would like to ask a question, I think you might help me. Recently I bought my first ADAT LX-20. I want to start recording on it, but everytime I try, Error 07 code will appear on LCD. It means that I should clean the head. I did cleaning, but my LX-20 doesn´t want to record even play the cassette. I press the play button, cassette will move for about four seconds and after that Error 07 will appear again. How can I fix it ? Will cleaning help ? I use TDK TCL-11 dry cleaning cassette, which is one of three recommended types of cleaning cassettes. Another question regards to a drum head life. When checking head hours, it always displays number 9999. It shows how many hours was ADAT in use. But can I reset it to zero ? Thanks for your advices. Marian

I have a system with Audiowerk 8 card [rev A board I think] and Griffin gPort serial port with Opcode Studio 64x midi interface. I recently performed same upgrade using Archive and Install option. I then re-installed Audiowerk 8 OS X driver and gPort drivers and both Audiowerk 8 and serial port are both recognised and working fine with 10.4.7 and Logic Pro 7.1.1 and subsequently 7.2.1. Hope this helps. Michael.

Open Disk Utility (should be in Applications>Utilities), and select the disk that is causing you problems. Go to the First Aid tab and select Verify Disk Permissions. If the Utility shows any permissions that are incorrect, you can click on Repair Disk Permissions. You could also check the Apple site for permissions-related issues. I believe there are a few Widgets that have been designed to repair permissions. It's also possible to script a permissions repair if you're willing to get your hands dirty. Lots of possibilities. Best of luck, ~Art

Subject: sound editing functions - online survey request
Message #6563
Hi everyone, My name is Matt Connolly. I’m sound editor with thousands of hours experience sitting at the workstation. This experience has let me use many editing tools, some that I like and some that I hate. I’m also a software developer and have started writing my own audio editing functions to make editing faster, more accurate and less repetitive and tedious. However, I’d like to gauge the experience of other audio editors, of all levels of skills and experience, and see if you experience the same issues I have with current digital audio workstation packages on the market. Can I ask you to do the survey for me, please? It should take about three minutes to answer, and the results will help me gauge whether I should continue to invest my time and effort into writing new sound editing software. Here's a link for the survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=785652335407 Thanks in advance to anyone who fills out the survey - your time is greatly appreciated. Cheers, Matt Connolly www.soundevolution.com.au

Subject: Need Help! About Moby´s - In My Heart! 250$ reward!!
Message #6566
Hi there, we are currently working on our final project at university. For this project we are desperatly looking for pieces of music that are similar to Mobys "In my Heart" (you can listen to it at Amazon http://www.amazon.de/gp/music/clipserve/B000063JBY001003/1/ref=mu_sam_ra001_ 003/028-3664133-2910167). It is important that these pieces of music feature similar elements such as the piano pattern, note progression, harmonic progression and pendular harmonic respectively, instrumentation and arragement etc. that will create a "feeling" similar to mobys piece. Since we do not have the time to search for such pieces ourselves right now we are seeking people who are willing to do some paid work for us (we will pay up to 250 Dollar depending on how many similar pieces you find). If you are interessted please email me at musicsearch@gmx.de. Best regards, Tina

Subject: [L-OT] Group BUY for Logic users
Message #6567
Everyone using Logic might be interested to know that the Logic_Cafe group on Yahoo is conducting a group buy for Izotope's Radius plug. If we get 50 people the price drops from $400 to $300, if we get 100, then it drops to $200! You do NOT have to sign up to the Logic_Cafe to participate in the offer. You can send a message to me directly or to that group. The info will be given to the customer support contact at Izotope and you will buy directly from them. This is a great opportunity. On the Logic_Cafe, people make side by side comparisons, and while Serato and Radius were both better than Logic's builtin Time/Pitch machine, Radius gave superior audio results to Serato. And thats what its all about!

One thing that may make Logic behave a bit more like Protools is to change the behaviour of audio region starts. Logic seems to snap to bar lines by default, or keep the same sub-position. But PT seemed to but two audio regions together. You can make Logic do that do by setting the preference in the upper right corner of the arrange window. the other thing, is to set a screen set to the arrange page, and one to the mixer page - to be more like PT > Can you be more specific about your problems? I remember trying to use > Protools and not finding the editing as easy as Logic. Message #6572
I have many drum samples. They all have the .aiff name on the end of each file. I need to delete the '.aiff' from multiple files at a time. At the moment I am double clicking on each file name in a finder window and manually deleting the appendage .aiff. It takes ages. Is there a better way. I'm on a G5 OSX10.3.9. Thanks, Roman Pirie.

There's "A Better Finder Rename" - not much experience with it. And there is File Buddy - the best utility for dealing with a large amount of files.
