I want all the drums from drum machines, keyboards and sound modules in
the form of aiff or wav files on a CDROM.
I have alot of drum machine drums from some sample CDs called '116
electric drum machines' and 'Dance Mega Drums V1'
But I know they are not complete because there are only maybe 60
samples for the Alesis SR16 but when I search the internet for the
specs of the Alesis SR16 there are 100s of drum sounds. So the sample
CD people are leaving some sounds out. I would like to have a complete
collection of drums from all the drum machines except all those
analogue cheap sounds which form the bulk of the sample CDs I
mentioned.
I have bought 2 separate sample CD sets from eBay that boasted to
contain all the drums from the Triton, Mo Phatt, Motif, XV5080 etc etc.
But both seperate products were absolutely crappy quality. I think they
used some sort of automated sampler cause 2 out of 3 files were just
silence or a bit of noise. And the recording quality of both products
was extremely poor to the point of ridiculousness.
I have gained a complete set of drums of a yamaha drum machine (maybe
the ry10) or something) which are quality from an akai list members
link to downloads.
Has anyone bought a quality COMPLETE library of any drum machines,
keyboards or modules? Let me know yall. I'd even like the drums from
keyboards like Korg M1 etc. Just so I have as many drum sound options
as possible.
Thanks,
Roman Pirie.
Hi
An annoying printer problem that I can't solve is behind this plea for
help.
I have a brass quintet arranged in 7.1.1 but cannot copy any parts.
I copied a track from another midi file done in vers 3.5 and pasted it
to the quintet file.
This track I can copy.
I then copied a quintet track to the older 3.5 vers track.
But it will not copy.
I'm using an apple personal laserwriter 320 printer.
Does anyone have a similar problem or is able to suggest a course of
action?
I've had better days.
Thanks,
Jim
Hi All, this is my 1st post here,
All of the projects I've done so far have been created in and stayed
in Logic 7's digital domain. Next year i want to put out a
cd that includes vocals and some guitar etc. and really want to get a
bigger, wider, warmer sound. I'd like to get your reccommedations
on how to bump up to the next level. I don't own a console, channel
strip or even a professional mic pre yet but am looking to make a
purchase.
Seems like the next thing i should try for is to send tracks out of
Logic into some analog circuitry and then back in again.
Currently i'm using MOTU's 2408 with a 424(?) PCI-card. Also have a
Yamaha O1V with a light pipe that i use only to send external
stuff (vocals/keys) into the 2408 and then into Logic.
One suggestion i got was to purchase 2 Summit Audio TD100's Tube DI
boxes and send my mix thru that. I'd like to know
anyone's opinion on this particular suggestion.
Any advice on this will be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Tom

Hi Roman,
I use an Epson Stylus Photo R200 it cost about £80 (about $140)
and has a plastic tray that you put the CD on that runs through the
printer. The quality is amazing considering the price. For the best
finish I use inkjet printable silver surface CDs, these look very
nice and have a kind of silver sheen, they always go down well with
clients (makes 'em feel special!)

Jim, if push comes to shove, try using the 'cmd-shft-4' in Mac OSX. It's
better than the old
'cmd-shft-3', because it allows you to size your screen. Save the file in
whatever format
you can get a good copy on. Mitchell

Hi, I too was looking for a CD printer. I did the ole thumb-2-tongue test
on the store
sample. Unfortunately, the printing is not permanent—a real problem for
sweaty palms,
someone splashes coffee on your CD, etc—things happen. I haven't found the
solution I am
seeking yet, but I do know that "where there's a need—there's a
business". It will probably
cost more, though, initially. Mitchell

I don't think you'll find a decent thermal transfer or dye-sub CD
printer for anything like that price though. There is one (can't
remember who made it though) specifically for cds at about £80 but it
is severely limited as to what it can print (straight text only, one
colour at a time etc.) For the price I don't think you'll find any
better and when you leave it to dry for a couple of hours on proper
inkjet cds its sufficiently impervious for all but the most sweaty
handed youfs.

Is to format a hard drive in OS 10.3.9 using disk utility the same as
erase?
I do not see any mention of format anywhere in Disk Utility 10.4.4
Thank you

Yes, it's the same.
However, with the default setting, it only writes a new file system,
it does not remap all the sectors of the disc.
To completely reformat and remap the drive, before you click Erase,
click options and set it to write zeros to all the sectors. That
will take some time but will give you a newly mapped drive with bad
sectors locked out.

Here's the solution I use. For around $180 you can get a La Cie
Lightscribe CD/DVD burner that prints the CDs too. It burns CDs at
52x and DVDs at 8x. The way it prints on the CDs is you turn the
disc over and it uses the same laser to burn the coating on the label
side and makes a permanent one-color label that has the shiny back of
the CD data as one color and a gold background that is burned off to
create the letters and graphics.

I have purchased a visual mastering program called 'Har-Bal' which is
only available for PC. I am a G5 user.
Har Bal only requires a 500Mhz PC so I got an old laptop to run it. I
just need to copy a full stereo song file to the PC from the G5. Then
EQ it in Har Bal and copy it back to the Mac. I have seen a product on
a local auction site that enables such a connection. It is a USB to USB
cable with a floppy disk of software.
Just seeing if anyone has info about these sort of things, experiences
maybe?
Cheers,
Roman Pirie.

Recommended by friends on this list I bought the Windows application
MacDrive. Now I can use the same LaCie FireWire800/400/USB for both
my Apple Powerbook and my Centrino lappy running XP. Neat!!!! Oh, I
keep the external drives OS X formatted. I guess MAcDrive would do
the trick for you too.
My next project with MacDrive is to "save" the content of two 160
GB
internal drives from my dead G5. The plan is to mount the drives
inside a desktop PC, with MacDrive installed, and move them over to
the Firewire drives I now prefer.

Hi,
I am trying to avoid buying a new printer.
The problem is that my Apple Personal LaserWriter 320 that is a
postscript printer bought in 1993 does not print music notation in
L7.1.1 but will print it in previous versions.
I am aware of the ability to print page using command shift 4.
Is anyone able to properly print notation using a postscript printer
and L7.1.1?
Can anyone suggest an inexpensive printer that is able to do this?
Thanks,
Jim
I am trying to edit longer projects (hour long) and i cant zoom out far
enough in the arrange window to see the whole project (or even a significant
portion of it) at once. Any one know any tricks or settings i might not be
aware of? I am maxing out the zoom bar on the bottom.

Hi,
I recommended the application MacDrive a while back. Now I have to
add a little reminder: it seems as when you have MacDrive installed
on a Windows machine it can not detect installation CDs correctly.
Over here I had to de-install MacDrive for a while when installing
Logic PC and Kontakt 2 from CD/DVD. Before I did that Windows only
detected the installation discs as "Mac files". Just something you
need to know, generally speaking I'm very happy with MacDrive.

My LaserWriter Pro 630 prints notation from Logic Pro 7.1.1.
What happens when you try it?

Hi All,
I appreciate the passion surrounding this issue. I hope some
of you follow this topic to The OT list to see the result.
I have spoken with reps from ASCAP and BMI this morning and
they both confirmed that using legally downloaded material to play
during my band's breaks is covered under the usage license that the
venue pays for.
In other words, it's the same as when my band plays cover
tunes. The country club or hotel pay a license fee to BMI or ASCAP
for us to use the material. I'm legit!
Now that the legal matter is settled, I'm going to go on to
try the technical work around that you guys suggested to import the
MP4s to Logic via a dump to CD as AIFF files. :-)
Thanks to everyone for the help.

if you have only audio tracks in your project, just
minimise the tempo till 5-10 bpm and you'll see more,
than you even expected :)
I have a 414B-XLII mic, an 828mkII interface, and I am trying to decide on a
preamp. My price range is $500 to $700. At this point my best options seem
to be :
1. Summit 2ba221
or
2. Joe Meek twin Q
I am recording everything from pop vocals to classical woodwinds and
strings. What is the way to go on a preamp?

I would save your money. Keep it all in the digital domain. Going out to
analog and back in will of course change the sound due to AD/AD
conversion but won't necessarily improve it.
What will definitely improve everything is to get your finished mixes
mastered at a good mastering studio.

Fully agreed here Pete.
Also to the original poster - you mentioned that you had no mic or
pre yet. If you had a set budget to get a mic, pre & analog summing
box, forget about the summing and spend the full amount on mic and pre.
Also consider hiring a great engineer when you mix it, or mix it in
an accurate acoustic space if yours isn't, or do both. Doing these
things will improve your mixes a great degree more in an obvious way
than the "subtle at best" improvement in using an external summing
device.

Hi All,
Since my dual G5 died I suddenly found out that some Apple Loops got
stuck inside it. I'm here in the middle of a production and missing
the Apple Loop named:
"Orchestral String Sec#25E"
If you happen to have that Apple Loop locally I would appreciate to
get a clone sent my way --> per@boysen.se
I'm afraid I have no clue from which application or jam pack I
initially got that file. Not easy to keep track on your library while
Apple keeps changing the file keeping routines between application
and single versions of the same application.

Hi everyone
Do any of you know how Radiohead got that crazy effect at the end of
track 7 (In Limbo) on Kid A , the pitch ramps up in an almost random
way and the whole track finally disappears into electronic grunge,
how did they do it ?
