Just where on your hard drive did the software inst. end up after you
installed Jam Pack 4?
I'm having the same problem with locating my jam pack 3 soft inst.
Can't figure what I'm missing.
Anyone able to enlighten me on this?

I'm not sure where they were installed. I'll take a look next time I am on
that system in a day or two.
Meanwhile, Please clarify what you are looking for - are you looking for a
certain AU instrument, or are you looking for the Jam Pack EXS instrument
files?
Mostly as I recall, the Jam Packs are collections of Apple Loops.
Please provide more specifics and I'll take a look.

----I don't care what category it falls under I want to be able to use
the orchestra tuba si of jp 4 in LP7.
The method I use to assign a si to a track in LP7 is to select the
si via the I/O of a track mixer channel (strip)
AU instruments in the track mixer are a sub category and I see no
access to any specific si.
If I choose the EXS instuments option in the I/O of the mixer channel
then the EXS24 opens but there is no orchestral tuba si available (I
believe there are no jp inst available here)
If I look under I/O-stereo-logic-gb same thing(no orchestral tuba si
available (I believe there are no jp inst available here either.)

Mostly as I recall, the Jam Packs are collections of Apple Loops.
----Yes, but they also have some si.
jp 3 has over 50 si and jp 4 has 30.

Please provide more specifics and I'll take a look.
---The only way that I know to get the jp si into LP7 is to import a gb
file into LP7.
This works fine but is not a very eloquent way of doing things.
The LP7 reference manual states on pg. 77 states " Once the gb song is
imported into logic, you may freely change.................instrument.
I don't think this is possible if you wish to change from a jp si to a
different jp si because they are not listed in any track mixer I/O
menu.
None that I've been able to find.

Look for the same stuff as with Apple laptops! I.e. external firewire
drive (only FW400 with pc), a good audio interface (I guess PCMCIA is
good with PC) and finally good computer specifications. Regarding
"computer specifications" you can find a lot good reports at the
Ableton Live forum. Do a couple of searches over there! Here's what I
found on a quick-search that might be of interest for you:

Oops, I forgot an important advice in my post below: Make sure you
buy a lappy with enough USB ports! I'm working every day on an Apple
Powerbook and it's a constant source of irritation having to swap USB
cables all the time. The Logic dongle has to stay in one USB port all
the time, then you have MIDI interface and eventual USB MIDI keyboard
controllers, USB MIDI mixers etc. And of course the printer.
Also, Celeron based CPU have proven not good for audio work, but I
guess you knew that ;-)

Hi all,
I use my G4 / OS 10.4 powerbook in a house where there is only dial up
internet access. Does anyone know of a Tiger compatible utility that would
alert me when someone is trying to call me while I'm using the phone line
for the internet?
Thanks!

In that price range I'd think you can't go wrong with a RODE NT2-A.
IMO the best vocal mic under $500. (The 1-A is nice, too, but is
single-pattern. I'm also a big fan of the Audio-Technica 4033, but
again it's a single-pattern and nearly as much as the 2-A.)

I would recommend the Studio Projects C3 (multi-pattern condenser), T3
(same, but tube), the MXL V6 (haven't used this one yet, but its
getting great reviews), or an AKG C414 (used for around $400-$500).
I typically go for the S.P. C3 very often. It has tonal characteristics
very similar to a U87(to me), but with slightly more pronounced highs.
It really makes vocals cut without any need for EQ. The C414 is a total
workhorse. The other two I listed will deliver very good results, but
with warmer tube properties.
Now that that's been said: I've been on the hunt myself for some more
mics to add to my collection and I've read more than my share of
forums. Through all of the arguing and opinion riddled speculation, the
only answer I could come to is that everyone's tastes are subjective.
It is easier to go on someone's opinion to buy a mic, but seldom are
you going to be satisfied. I've been through too many mics to go by
that anymore. My favorite mics that i own are the ones that I demo'ed
at music stores or borrowed from someone to see if i really like it.
All mics are DIFFERENT. They're not necessarily better or worse. Each
has its on character that will or won't appeal to different people.
Each mic does something that another mic won't do. I doubt I would ever
use a Reslo ribbon mic to cut vocals because of they're sound, but I
might use it for the character it adds as an effect.
Is the C3 as "good" as a U87? Who cares? The question is, when I
record
something with either mic, "which one captures what i want to hear and
delivers the sound that pleases me, or pleases one of my clients?" Is a
Peluso mic like a U47? Who knows? Who cares? (try to find me 2 U47's
that sound the same)
The point is: don't go by recommendation. Don't go by reputation. Don't
go by name. Go by your ears. Go listen. Rent some. Borrow some. Buy
some and take them back. Just make sure you let your ears decide.
Ok, now I'm off my soap box.

Dear luggers maybe you could help me. I lost a web address of a music
publishing company based in Germany. All my attempts to find it on the net
failed. What I remember they are in business since 1994, they are
specialising to work with artists/producers who produce their music mostly
on their computers, the styles are ambient, drum and base, downtempo ie
computer age music. Keeping hope.
Hi
Here's a time conversion that won't work for me.
I have a tune in 4/4 that would read easier if it was in 12/8.
When I change the time signature in the transport window the results
are unreadable.
The quarter note does not change to a dotted quarter and the subdivided
bar does not conform to 4 groups of 3 (a value of 3 8th notes )
I've tried all quantize possibilities I can think of.
Also I've exhausted the help file suggestions (info) No luck.
Has any one been successful with this conversion?
Or will I have to rewrite the entire file?
Thanks

Jim,
You should re-post this to the main list. You'll get better responses.
I've had similar quandaries with this in the past but I don't
remember if I solved it or just banged my head against the wall. :-)
Also, I'm sure it was with a much earlier version so whatever
I did is probably not applicable now anyway.

I want to run Norton Utilities through it but it won't beeo up from

Does anyone have any suggestions?
I dont want to run Logic on it until its stable.
Thanks in advance

Yeah. Make your cursor into the eraser and double click on
the offending bar line. Sometimes I have to take a few tries to hit
it right on the head. :-)

Greetings
For some reason I cannot get an instrument part to print.
I've activated it's window and selected print but nothing happens.
My printer works fine with all my other apps.
I've printed in logic before with no problems.
I can't find any relevant info in the manual in this regard.
The only thing I can think of is that perhaps my recent downloaded
7.1.1 vers of logic pro is the culprit as I have not yet printed in
this vers yet.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi Jim,
Can't offer any real help, but I just printed with 7.1.1
today on an Epson Photo 820.
