I did wonder why this popped up at both Logic OT and the Usergroup. How
disappointing to see such cheap shots put to use, if that's what's going on
that is.

Sorry about that, everyone. It won't be happening again, at least not
under the name "Gtruno".
I didn't see this message on the LUG, though - matter of fact, I rejected it
there - have I missed something? The OT list is pretty much unmoderated, so,
while we do catch obvious spammers and prevent them messing up our lists, if
someone who has been a member here for some time posts some rubbish, it may
get onto the list, but we will certainly deal with it then.

It's fine with me, I just don't understand why anyone would use such a
trick. Most of us are on other lists and we immediately discover something
like this. To me Sampletank just lost credibility not any of you guys

Yeah, you could do that same trick and get away with it, if it was done more
professionally. Put a description about why its so cool, and then change the
message slightly to each group and send them on different days. This guy
needs
to go back to SPAM SCHOOL and take SPAMMING 101. I'm not even in the
business
but I could a much better job.
By the way, I wanted to say a few words about Garritan Personal Orchesta....
nah ... ,just kidding.
I can instantiate software instruments with the MCU. But I can't see a
parameter for switching instrument presets. Ideally the software
instruments would switch with MIDI program numbers (from my master
keyboard) like every other instrument (MIDI) in my studio.
Peace.
I have recnetly upgraded to a dual G5 and Logic 7.
Ihave a 2408, a midi time piece and a MTP AV on my old 9600
and system 9. What can I keep that will work with my new setup
and what is the most relaiblemidi and audio interface to get?
I really anxious to get up and running!
sounds like you're good to go. slap in your card & the latest drivers
and get up and running.
i'm diggin' my tascam fw-1082 right now. firewire interface and
control surface for well under $800.

I'm not sure if it was Jobs, but someone did confirm that they were
going to do nothing to their hardware to firmware-disable Windows
from being installed and run.

It sure does. And like I said, I don't deny the possibility that OS X
might run on non-Apple hardware someday, but I don't see that day
coming soon. just my opinion, I actually hope I'm wrong (even though
I would never go back to non-Apple hardware regardless - I love the
fact that Apple controls both the hardware and the OS, makes things
so much nicer).

For whom?
;-)
Seriously - the idea that Apple "controls" the hardware needs to
be
taken outside and given a decent burial.
Apple are in the process of completing a move to the industry standard
architecture which is determined by the bigger players - Intel, AMD,
Nvidia and the Dramurai. Apple is going to be running a distribution
network, speccing cases to be made by third parties and supplying OS
software and a few content creation apps that they have bought.

No argument. But any machine that bear the name "Macintosh" is
going
to be comprised of components both chosen and tested by Apple for
compatibility and compliance. Which is something that Microsoft has
yet to provide as they are fundamentally a software-only company (all
mice and other doodads notwithstanding) -- I've long said that the
best thing they could do for Windows (which is not inherently a bad
OS, it's just often run on bad systems) is to start manufacturing
systems as Apple does.

Does anybody know if that Sounddiver thing that shipped with the original
JV1010 has ever been updated for OSX.
Hi,
I'm almost 100% sure it hasn't. At least there's no OS X SD versions other
than public betas that I know of.
Best,

There is a yahoo group for sounddiver-users. In their mainpage they announce
this link to the newest public beta:

But the problem is that the JV1010 came with a Sounddiver version only made
for the JV1010 so I don't have sounddiver just this little part of it. The
beta Sounddiver thing need a key to work which you only have if you bought
the whole package.
I have OS 9.0 on CDROM. I also have the upgrades to 9.2 on CDROM. I
understand from a Panther book I have that 9.1 is the earliest version
of the Mac OS that can be installed.
So it's not letting me install 9.0 then upgrade to 9.2. Is there any
way around this? I can go see a friend and get 9.1 if there is no
workaround.

Hi
I am having a problem transferring an aiff file from my tascam DA 30 to
L7.1
I am going spdif out of the dat 30 to digital in of my AW8 audiowerk
card in my G4 dual.
I assign the file to be saved to my mac desktop.
I arm a stereo audio track and press record, then I play the dat file.
When the file is finished playing on the dat I stop recording in L7.
An aiff file shows up on my desktop and is 50 mb in size.
When I get it to a L7 file audio window there is no information at all.
I've done this 4 times with no success and can find no reference on how
to do this in the dat or L7 manual.
Can anyone be of assistance.
Getting a tad frustrated,
Jim

Hi Jim,
I don't think this is off-topic at all.
Check that the input of the track you are recording to in Logic is set
to 'digital in', rather than analog in. If you click on 'input' on the
channel strip, you should get to choose your spdif as an input.
When the track is armed, do you get levels on Logic's meters?
Sounds to me like it's recording the (silent) analog ins, which is why
you're getting an empty file.

Adam et all,
This problem is a real mystery to me.
The track I'm recording to is my audio 1 input 1-2.
I assume this will record the dat info being sent when I press record
and play the dat.
On this channel strip there is no indication of analog or digital input.
My choices under input on my aw8 channel strips are: input 1-2 or no
input.
Adam you mentioned "When the track is armed, do you get levels on
Logic's meters?"
On my audio 1 strip where I've chosen input 1-2 and output 1-2 I get
no levels on my logic meters when the track is armed/recording and I'm
sending dat info via spdif.
I can't find any reference in L7 to arming a track for digital
recording.
What am I missing?
Thanks for your help so far.
Jim

I've ripped some DVD's onto my hard drive (G5 OSX10.3.8, DVD drive etc)
using 'mac the ripper'
This produces a folder with a video and an audio folder. I assume if
this whole folder was burnt to a DVDR it would work in a DVD player. At
the moment I watch them with OSX's 'DVD Player'.
So any advice on how to create a DVD from these files would help me.
Also some of the DVD's are 6-7Gigs. I suspect my DVD drive only
supports 4.2 (Idon't know). But I am sure the DVDR's I have are only
4.2Gigs.
Any help appreciated, hopefully freeware.

Hi
For the last 4 hours I've been trying to find the jam pack 4 software
instruments that I'm using in garage band 2 in logic 7.1
The logic literature leads me to believe this is possible, but I
haven't been successful.
I've created an audio instrument track in the arrange window then in
the track mixer under I/O I select stereo/ AU instruments/ logic/
garage band instruments but jam pack 4 does not appear.
I have no trouble playing jam pack instruments in garage band.
I've tried importing my garage band file (with jam pack instruments)
into L7 and tried dropping my jam pack instrument files into the L7
arrange window but the apple " file/find "
can't locate either.
Am I trying to go where no man has gone before?
Anyone have any tips?
Too many questions
Too much time

I can confirm it¹s possible because it works on my system. Did you
install
Jam Pack and then add Logic later. If so, you might need to reinstall Jam
Pack so it puts the aliases to the right places in Logic¹s folders.
Or you could try locating the Logic AU instruments folder and putting an
alias in there to the Garageband folder that contains the instruments.
Good luck
