this may open up a can of worms‹ but if you all had an extra $500-$1000,
what plugins would you all look at? dynamics? vsti? exs-sample cds?
i¹ve
got quite an extensive sample library at the moment (although have always
been intrigued by the BFD vsti). the only dynamic plug-in that i really use
a lot is metric halo¹s channelstrip. UAD-1 card? waves bundle? best

I tried this out and it works awesome. It sounds great. I am thinking
of buying it.

For the sort of stuff I do, that would be the one - the ultra pak if
possible, or at least the studio pak.
A very good alternative IMO are the sonalksis plugins, with the
additional, considerable benefits of latency free working, and not
being restricted to the number that can run on one card - a UAD card
will run out of steam with between 7 - 9 of the "better" plug ins
like
1176, or even less with others such as Nigel.

UAD-1 and/or Sonalksis compressors and EQ plus PSP Vintage Warmer (also
the PSP Mixpack - a very underated little bundle)
For donationware, (and I definitely found this worth paying for),
Gainshaper is absolutely amazing.

HI. My name is David Tobin, and many of you will know me as a regular
contributor to this
group in the past.
I have worked for a number of Karoake and Soundalike companies for a number
of years,
and once again the opportunity has risen to offer work to high quality
motivated
programmers.
I am looking to enlarge and strengthen a team of programmers working with
logic on a
mac (if poss - but not essential), who have great ears, good samples, or
virtual
instruments, and an understanding of hitting deadlines. We remake tracks for
some of the
biggest companies - and we could be talking anything from Paul Young, to the
Crazy Frog,
Charlotte Church to Rachel Stevens - whatever is asked of us.
In the first instance, please email me urgently if you are interested in
being considered for
regular paid work. Please use the following email address:
david@...
Please include a method for me to contact you - email or phone.
I will then ask for demo's to be made, from which we can judge who will be
most suitable.
I look forward to hearing from you all.

Hi all -
Regarding the earlier post "Programmers required"
Just to clarify what is meant by "Programmers".
I am not looking for anyone to pass me MIDI parts, or make MIDI files or
anything like
that.
Effectively, you are making backing tracks at a high quality - by listening
to all the parts
and recreating them.
You would be recording mixes without vocals down to AIFF/WAV/MP3 and sending
those -
not individual parts.
So - if you have got good ears and are skilled as a musician and want some
extra work,
give me a shout at
david@...
Talk to you all soon!

Thanks everyone who has replied to me regarding this - Phew ....
unbelievable amount of people who are interested.
For the moment, I am going to give the opportunity to UK programmers
first to do some demo work.
This is purely and simply because, being based in the UK myself, I wont
pay bank charges to pay wages to UK accounts!
So -
1. If you are one of the guys from another country that sent me your
details -
We haven't forgotten you -
I will hear demos from the English guys first.
If they are not good enough, I will be STRAIGHT back onto all of you to
give you a crack at it immediately.
We will know all within the next week.
2. If you are UK based and have not responded yet - last chance.....
If you would like to be considererd for a regular source of HIGH
QUALITY backing track manufacture - we are looking for you....
More details when you contact me.
Contact me by phone or email in the next 24 hours - then we will stop
our search.
Many thanks to all that have been in touch.

Which just furthers my point that folks should start a new message
instead of replying to an existing one to start a new topic, as it
throws off everyone's threading (or at the very least those who are
using Apple Mail, the only app I can confirm at the moment).

Yeah, happens here too (Mozilla/WinXP). If 'Display Message Threads'
is turned on, unrelated posts can be hidden, nested away under whatever
post the sender hit 'reply' to just to save time on composing anew - guilty
of this myself before I discovered the view threads facility in Mozilla.

Hi gang....
Following a previous posting for programmers requiredt make tracks for the
karaoke
market - I am again looking to strengthen our team. I need people that have
great ears
and a willingness to work to tight deadlines making backing tracks. The work
we have is
very regular and we don't need anyone to deliver midi files - just accurate
copies of
original tracks - using programmed midi and live audio where necessary.
Budgets are not huge, but work is (as stated) very regular. We are looking
for people to
test on a verse and chorus of a track, and then if the test is of sufficient
standard, we will
ask you to complete the track and pay you for your work.
For more details please email david@... or call 01933 314040/
0779 393 8525. At the moment, we are still only looking for UK based
musicians as
experience tells us that it is a little harder to make this job work with
those based in other
financial/time zones.
Please email/phone for more details - only serious people apply, and those
with
broadband will get priority.
Thanks gang!
David Tobin
Another job offer gang....
From the guys that place the "karaoke programming" post - we are
looking for studios to
take care of all of the vocal work for the backing tracks that we make.
We need to be able to make the backing vocals and the front vocals for all
the tracks that
we have to make replicas of - both male and female.
Varied styles required - excellent ears needed as backing vox harmonies need
to be exact
- both chords, voice styles and recording techniques. Budgets are modest,
but work is
really regular, and work will be passed in reasonably large chunks so
singers can be
booked in 1/2 day or full day sessions. It is an advantage if the engineer
is also able to
sing, as your profit margin will increase! Please only apply if serious
about ability to hit
regular deadlines.
Apply for more details by email to david@... or phone 01933 314040 or
0779 393 8525.
Be prepared to do a test vocal on a small amount of music - and if the test
is acceptable,
we will ask you to finish the test piece and get paid.
Look forward to hearing from you all...

Hi friends
Is there any user in Honolulu ? I need some advice in Logic Audio
I would appreciate your help.

Does anyone use a Samson C-Control for recording and playback with an
external mixer and Logic? I just got one and try to figure out how to
integrate it.
If I feed the sum of my external mixer to "Mix in" of the
C-Control
(as the manual suggests) and go from the C-Control to the audio
interface, I cannot monitor Logic while recording, right? I guess
that is to avoid feedback.
Workaround is to connect the mixer's sum to the audio interface and
the mixer's C-R outputs to the C-Control. That works good but since
the C-Control is not in the recording chain I cannot use the "Talk to
2TK" function, which is a nice feature (you can add spoken notes to a
track).
Is there a way to record via the C-Control and hearing Logic's
playback through the same device?

Is anyone using the Dell w/Logic? Specifically, there are some known
issues with backlight bleed, and I'm curious if they are visible when
using Logic and/or similar applications.
Obviously the bleed would be blatantly apparent on a plain black
screen for testing purposes, as shown in many of the photos I've seen
posted, but I'm more interested in real-world uses. And since this
monitor is not available at any retail locations, at least none near
me, I cannot look for myself.
In the end I'm certainly interested in saving money, but not at the
expense of quality.
Thanks!
Brian

I have had this working before. I had to recently erase my HD to cure
some problems. I've reloaded Logic etc. My Unitor 8 is connected via
USB. But it isn't being recognised. Help!

You have to install the Unitor 8 USB driver perhaps?

I recorded a long practice session last night with my bands. 12
tracks at 24 bit/44.1 Khz. Got home and opened the song off of the
portable FW HD on my desktop and it gave me errors like "what kind
of file is this", "8 bit files cannot be used", etc...
The file is the exact same size as all the other files that were
recorded.
I researched and found out about using audacity to import the raw
audio data to be later exported to whatever format, but no matter
what input paramaters I chose (16/24/32 bit PCM/float/dwvw
big/little/no-endian) the imported audio was unusable. Extreme
static and distortion, and the little audio you can hear in the
background is sped up it seems.
Why is this happening? How can I recover my track? Is there some
other software/platform besides logic/osx that would be more
reliable? I'm sick of random crashes and corruption which IMO is a
hallmark of working with Apple software. My PC rarely ever crashes.
Setup:
I use Logic 6.4.3 and OS 10.3.9 on 2 different machines. One is a
PB400 the other is a G4 DP1.25. Both have a gig of ram. I also use
the Waves V4 diamond plugins extensively. I have a MOTU 828 and run a
digimax LT into it's optical in. Mostly I just record bands... around
12 tracks simultaneously at 24 bit. I use a LaCie firewire HD with my
PB to do this on location (the built in HD is too sensitive to
vibration). I then load the song up at home on my DP1.25Ghz G4 for
mixing and overdubs.

First thing I would try is :
1. Is USB cable secured at both ends (computer and AMT)
2. open Audio/Midi utility and see that its there.
I recently had a problem where my A/D was not getting into logic. I tried
everything and finally discovered the cable had come lose at the back of the
rack
unit.
