Subject: [LUG] [LAW] Logic 5x , MachFive and PC Error Message
Message #6176
I am trying to get Logic 5.01 for Windows to work with MachFive for Windows. I have attached a copy of the error message. It seems that when Logic is loading, there is a list of all the things that are loading at the bottom. When it gets to the: INITIALIZING EXTERNAL SAMPLE EDITOR COMMUNICATION setting, sometimes it hangs and never recovers. WHen I reinstall Logic, it seems to go away for a while, but then when I try and install MachFive, it comes back at will. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Chaz

Message #6179
I need a very small and discreet USB/Firewire Midi Controller/Keyboard for work. I need to use it on my desk, so I don't want it to be too large. All I need is one or two octaves and the keys don't have to be full size. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated! Thanks in advance! Chaz

Subject: Logic & outboard equip
Message #6180
Hi, I have a MIDI studio with all outboard equipment. Presently I'm using a PC with Logic 4.81 and a Unitor 8 MKII. I have a Mackie 24 ch. Mixer as well as a Mackie 24/96 HDR. I was wondering if there's anybody that has the same kind of a set up times 2, that might take the time to advise me on what equipment I need to double my output from computer to outboard equipment. At this point I can do 8 instruments via the Unitor but I'd like to at least double that capablilty in the very near future. Thanks in advance, Gary

Occassionally a song will not open or crash the program. I've gotten around it by opening a previous version of the song but updating it is frustrating. Is their some way to open these songs? I'm using OS 10.3.8, dual 1GHz powerPC G4 processors and 1.5 GB SDRAM. Thanks

I went to the manual for info about the channel EQ but it basically just tells you what buttons to press especially regarding the anylizer. This is like telling a student driver where the ignition is and setting him loose. Is there someplace I can get detailed info about the channel EQ?

Does logic crash immediately or after a while? No error messages? All I can think of is trying to open the song in other Logic versions, on other platforms and on a different computer. I'm not sure if a lot of people frequent this Off Topic forum, since there ain't a lot going on. I remember a similar thread in either the EXS or the LUG forum, not sure which one. Try a search. Subject: no sounds coming out
Message #6187
greetings, I am a new logic express 7 user, about a month now. I had been creating songs/tracks with mostly loops and some voice and audio samples that I had made. I was working on my largest composition so far and didn't freeze anything and the program crashed my computer. Since that time I have not been able to get any sound out of logic. No new apple loops, not any of the vocal samples I had put in. All of teh compositions seem to still be in tact but there is never any levels going through. Nothing is muted or solo'd. I know I need to spend some more time tracking but last night after about an hour and a half in logic then an hour in the manual I through my hands up in disgust and defeat. Any troubleshooting ideas would be greatly appreciated. I was hoping to incorporate those loops into my weekly d.j. set tonight but at this rate it doesn't look possible. tschuss AWN

Yahoo/Yahoogroups are clueless; this new "interface" (thank goodness I get emails) and their pathetic search engine are proof enough of that. Their privacy policy continues to evolve in a very negative direction, and the ads (when browsing online) become more and more intrusive and bandwidth-hogging all the time. I'd love it if we finally moved from Yahoogroups completely (as IMO we should've done back when Yahoo took over the forums, was that '99? '00?) - I haven't seen the custom logic-users.org forums but even with something like PHPBB we'd end up with a better online forum by far, and if there's a way to mirror the online forum for email delivery the switch would be complete and so much better than Yahoo can offer, without all the garbage they throw in. Subject: Changing the tempo of a rhythmic patch via Logic
Message #6190
I'm sure what I am trying to do is something the rest of you have done dozens of times, but here it goes...... If you play one of the patches on the Motif, some of them are very rhythmic, and have a distinct tempo. Most times the tempo when you hit the key does not match the tempo of song you are working on. How do you get the patch tempo to match the song tempo? I'm sure this is easy, but I never had a use for this, until now. Thanks in advanced Chaz

May I also add to this getting xskeys in case your Logic Pro 6 xskey does not work in future must also be a worry. Steinberg have released a licence transfer key you can purchase for their products. I suggest Apple/Emagic does the same time. The new mac Logic Pro7 xskeys work on a hidden system and quite frankly even when you run fxpansion to convert vsti's Logic Pro 7 has problems. Also Latency in ASIO VS Core Audio vs Mas guess which driver works the best test it and see - certainly not core audio ?! And why does waveburner only recognise Logic Pro 7 Bounces and not DP4.5'S yet Itunes does recognise the same file. --- In logic-ot@yahoogroups.com, "Howard Lipp" <digitalwizzard@m...> wrote: > > In defense of Logic as written by EMagic, as opposed to the newest version produced by apple is only this. When we all were using otari and studer 24 track machines, a poorly designed machine would put a company out of business in a fortnight. And there are laws protecting the consumer from the sale of faulty, defective, or dangerous products. My experience with software, is strictly this; Software is the only product/industry which can get away with selling a known defective product, market the hell out of it and have the right to charge you for the upgrades to solve the problems they knew about in version 1. The last version of Logic made by emagic is version 6 pro. I have been using it on a standard dual CPU g4 since version 5 (about 3 years) with flawless operation. I refuse(d) to upgrade from any version to any version, just because a vendor says it is new and improved. I watch and wait to see that it actually works. I am a degreed computer engineer who refuses to work in the computer industry for this very reason. So maybe a word of caution to anyone who uses software in case you haven't had this experience yet is just because they are selling it and touting it as new and improved doesn't mean it works. Remember that beta testers are not testing the release version, and although their input may or may not be used in defining the final release, it doesn't mean that it works. > Software is still a "caveat emptor" which mean "let the buyer beware" kind of market. > > > Howard Scott Lipp > howard@c... > > Centerline Music & Entertainment > www.CenterlineEntertainment.com > 1151 25th St. Santa Monica CA 90403 > 310 828 6040 work > 310 936 8478 cell > >

If the receiver is supposed to load the song together with a quicktime movie into Logic on a Mac, then send the files you are already talking about: Logic .lso song file, aif files used by the song, quicktime files used by the song. But put it on a cd and send it with snail mail. (or make a zip archive and upload to a server for her to download, if you have that option is available) If you only need to let her listen to the music, bounce a part to disc from Logic as an mp3 file. Or if you know she will listen on a Mac, as an AAC file, because that will make for a smaller file size. Subject: Re: [LUG] Pitch Correction vs Autotune
Message #6196
I have moved this to the OT group because I find this has very little to do with Logic CWB wrote: Unless a production requires varying tempo or the > drummer is speeding up or slowing down. Which is exactly what I meant, if you have a break and start by ear (no click) you will almost always naturally start a different place than the machine. I have done quite a bit of copying live drums to midi and I have often been surprised with the tightness (BPM wise) of these old recordings. Something like Here Comes The Sun by the Beatles is as tight as a beatbox until the mid 8, the sun sun sun part, at which point he changes the tempo slightly. That slight very musical change would not have been these days because of the convenience of the clicktrack. Older stuff from the thirties and fourties are often completely without a on-going beat which I find interesting. Just because everything is kept completely in time these days doesn't neccesarily mean that it's the only way. Listen to Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Judy Garland, there's dynamic tempo for you. The tempo alters with the mood of the songline and not the other way around, actually something that would more or less require everthing to be recorded at the same time. My guess is that those skills have disappeared because it's quite difficult, requires very good musicianship and, well let's face it,it's hard to dance to but who wants to dance all the time. The same thing with the autotune, if tuning and intonation becomes too much of an issue you might end up having to autotune everything but the sounds out of machines which in my opinion would be a shame.

I have a pair of Bose connected to my PC with built in power, about 30 watts, I've used for a long time. They have a stereo jack and they're great for working with arrangements without having to turn all sorts of stuff on, initially. I'm not sure about your soundcard's capabilities and your M1's, with reference to power, so that's an issue to address, but my experience with the Bose speakers has been without any problems. Also, what about your tascam unit? Will it receive audio input from the computer? Does it have audio out for speakers? Gary
